Dec 30 3306 Outotz BO-V c17-0 8 g (121 ly away from HIP 36601) has 4.3% Selenium so I stopped on a flatish plain for some surface mining metallics, chondrites and meso's and have been rewarded with about 30 units of Selenium. It's also been spitting out slighly more Antimony than Selenium (boo as I've got a full hold) as well as lots of Molybdenum and Vanadium. I landed at 44.13 x -62.75 and am just lifting off now. o7

I bookmarked a dozen locations from fandom, and once I got to HIP 36601 I got surprised by the amount of fleet carriers. Now I know why.

Just a note that maybe has already been stated. If your ship can't do at or near 40 Ly's per jump you won't be able to plot a course to HIP 36601.

Just a quick comment whilst enjoying stocking up for a few days in this system, the piceous cobbles produce iron, sulpher etc, these actually prove very useful in restocking so you'll never run out of SRV fuel, ammo or if you accidentally fall off a side of a mountain getting that selenium crystal needle, instant SRV repair. Keep up the great, great work and thank you for taking the time to make these educational videos on a truly epic game. X-Beyond The Frontier is my 2nd all time favourite game, was 1st. Cities Skylines is 3rd, Forza Motorsport 4th (Dreamcast Ferrari F355 Challenge is equal 4th) if you're wondering. I did play the original on the Acorn Electron when very young and none the wiser when my older brother played this ground breaking game. Bring back the X-Beyond The Frontier computer assist voice, memories of "Crystal Fab completed" and "Ready to Dock" in that great Babylon 5 style they had.

Hi Chief, QC here :-) "Fule Scoop" and 100'000 light years+ (3:02) out instead of light seconds. Personally i recommend crosstrade all for Selenium if you need Selenium for Dirty Thrusters or Efficent weapons.

The best advice i can give you about this technique, when picking which biological site you gonna land, pick the ones on the bright side of the planet and the ones seem okish surface, When you pick one and if you notice its in a canyon or in a deep hole, just pass to another one, dont try to fight rough terrain.

@@siddharthbhatia5024, yes, night vision works fine. And it is possible to land Large ships out there even in the rough(er) spots. Although it can be a bit tricky. I went in an Anaconda. But every planet has multiple choices. Why work any harder than you have to?

Sage advice indeed. 4 of my 6 sites were on the flat (Biological Signal (2) on HIP 36601 C 3 b was particularly lovely if you like pancakes for their 2dimensionality (wink) ) but Biological Signal (4) on Outotz LS-K d8-3 B 5 a was on the side of a central peak so on a hefty incline, fun though. The most picturesque but worst to mine was Biological Signal (2) on HIP 36601 C 1 a... lumpy hollows puts it mildly. Have fun Cmdrs, o7

Who else remembers 2.0 when FSD upgrade required polonium, which only dropped at the rate of about one unit per hour from searching planets with the SRV

there is a double overlapped void opal hot spot in the outer ring of HIP 36601 C 5 with an alexandrite hot spot overlapping with both those, so if you want to core mine with people while others are getting the engineering mats, you can do that

I was going to head out to HIP 36601, but cannot plot the route (Plot Route Unavailable, Maximum Distance Exceeded). Currently in an AspX w/ 39.16ly jump. What am I doing incorrectly? Do I need to find a half way point to head to then plot the rest of the route?

HIP 36601 C 3 b Tellurium shards - 34.8121, 118.4673

Unfortunately on the Xbox (maybe other platforms too) there is a bug where over 50% of the time you shoot a shard, it spawns a 3-pointed object that falls through the ground. You can only collect these if you catch them in mid-air. Makes gathering very time consuming and tedious as you miss many due to this bug

There is Selenium in Outotz LS-K d8-3 - B 5 a. I looked from geological sites, cant remember what name it was, Yttrium was from Crystal needles, i think Selenium was from Crystal Fragments.

I watched both videos today, but I couldn't find any Crystalline Shard for 3 days. can you help

A question. Are your videos speeded up in places? I can't drive an SRV anything like as fast as that and I didn't even see you scooping up crystals. I've noticed a few estimates of time to collect materials seem 'optimistic' to say the least. It takes me probably 45 -60 minutes to collect a load of materials like that. Same with mining. Deep core diamonds if I do 40-50 tons an hour that is good going. Perhaps I'm just slowing up in my old age?

I also think Scooping in the SRV is slightly frustrating and 20 minutes to fill up seems a bit generous. But you can get 150+ tons an hour mining LTD in the Borann System you just have to go cluster/core mining which ever you prefer to call it and you will have to get good at spotting these asteroids. They are easy to see if you fly a little above the asteroid field and use your pulse they will be the only small popcorn shaped asteroids and they will light up brighter than the others from far away you can spot them 10000 meters out or more with practice.

@@WarHawkAU24 Firing prospector limpets at everything you see is a lot more wasteful and takes more time. You burn through way more limpets & dont get the juicy 80% bar fills you do from the fragments from core mining.

@@S.ASmith I don't actually use prospectors for LTD laser mining I head to the Borann system triple hotspot and most of the asteroids have LTDs. It requires a lot less thinking than core mining too.

I'm confused. I'm at C1D and fully mapped the plane, but I don't see any biological or geological signals in my nav panel.

I can't get HIP 36601 - C 1 d - Ruthenium to work. Polonium, tellurium, and technetium all worked for me, though it was more like scattered individuals with sometimes clusters than a forest. I guess that must have changed.

who to get those geological signals? i can't see it, just thargoid random materials from a crash

If you're in live, you'll see blue patches in the surface of the planet once you've scanned it. Use [Q] and [E] in your surface scanner to cycle to 'crystal shards', then try and head to the greenish patches that appear within the blue patches (might be a bit hard to see) land there and you should see crystals. Hope this helps. Safe travels commander o7

New player here, are these site still providing decent mats? HIP 36601 - C 3 b - Tellurium I'm needing 26 tellurium.

Tried HIP 36601 - C 1 a and HIP 36601 - C 1 d in Odyssey and it seems like this doesn't work anymore. Can't find any biological signal in the panel. Or am I doing something wrong??

Ok so after some research and testing, it seems like all planets were regenerated in odyssey so biological sites like crystal shards on the planets mentioned in the video doesn't exist anymore. All you can do is find some crystal shard and scan it with exobiologist suit. What you can do tho is launch Horizon, do your material farm and go back to Odyssey.

As always your videos are both helpful and easy to follow. Is there a trick to getting to HIP 36601? When i try to plot my route it tells my route unavailable. I have a 39 ly jump range on my cutter. So i think i should be able to get there.

Yes, you should. Check your galaxy map options and make sure you don't have "Apply filter to route" checked on something that doesn't affect refueling.

thanks for the video, i do hope the FULE problem goes away. So Ive found the planet on the map, cant establish a route to it, so im guessing this is where you need a ship that does 200 ly per jump to get to?

Never fly without FULE! I'm at this point too, hit a wall at ~300 ly from hip 36601 where I can't jump any further as the systems are 40+ ly away and my aspx currently maxes out at 32 ly... Heard anywhere from 34 to 40+ ly as a minimum req when researching this

@@MrStoffzor my first trip there I rode an all-round big snek fortress with 35.8 ly jump range. Plotting route from Outotz LS-K D8-3 to HIP 36601 took forever and failed. I got closer, around some emptier space, closer yet, and then from a system just ~150 ly away the route plotter found a 16 jump path, way around and through a nearby's white dwarf jet boost. Overall it took me ~35 jumps to eventually get there. Next trip was on a Krait P. with 55.7 ly jump range. Same distance took 11 jumps in a straight line. Also finding a landing spot for Krait was a piece of cake compared to the big snek.

All I want is a spotlight on the turret!

@@Chidar I forgot to mention: If I remember correctly, I actually did visit the system before I had over 35 LY jump range. I plotted a course to a random system near it and then plotted a new course from there. That worked and I was able to go there. Having more jump range just allows me to plot a course in one go, for some reason. Doesn't really make sense, but I am afraid 23 LY is probably still too short. You can get a ASP Explorer to about 35 LY without engineering, as far as I know. The Diamondback Explorer too, as far as I know. You just need to make them as light as possible. It might be possible with other ships too. I think the Type 6 transporter or the Hauler are known to get good jump ranges too, if equipped the right way.

they are biological call crystals are biological in nature and contains various elements. On a side note, the scans don't show up in Odyssey (annoyingly) but works in Horizon with no issues.

My squadron is big on going out to this system to collect materials. I find it more convenient to just use eddb or inara to find these and other materials around the bubble.

I think around 65 - 70 ly. I used a Jumpaconda with a 68ly jump and as the stars thin out the jumps go all over the place some as low as 52ly, most around 64ly and a couple of 67ly jumps.

A good guide if you really need it. But that rough terrain, the low gravity, to shoot from the turret YES or YES, the chunks get untargeted when you shoot at them and they go up and up and up and up, and the unplayable frame rate at those crystal shards sites in a regular PS4, makes it a huge pain in the A. I went twice and no more.

Your ship may not have a long enough jump range. I just started a new account and had to engineer my ship from 27 up to 35+ jump range for it to plot correctly.

This probably due to a low current Jump rage that your ship have, it is recommended for this to have a ship with >40LY jump range. o7

Even Horizons 4.0? Might have to do it in Horizons Legacy.

These sites are glitched. The material fragments are often rendered incorrectly and they don't have collision detection so they fall through the ground and you can't pick them up.

It is pretty RNG. They only spawn in specific crystal fragments (other stuff yield lower grade stuff) - and they get mixed up with Arsen and Zirconium. But well it's better than nothing. I visited 3 Geological sites and got 30 Selenium.

I'm trying this in Odyssey and shooting the crystalline clusters does nothing anymore. They no longer detach.

One more self-reply. Going to different spots on C 1 a shooting crystalline clusters gives various raw materials. So far the have only been common materials. They are clustered in areas, so flying out to orbit and back down to a different spot will give a different material. Maybe logging out and in again will change what drops? Frustrating.

Great video as always. FYI, we really need a definitive technique for pharmaceutical isolators. On your spreadsheet it says high grade signal sources, but I've scanned around 20 and haven't found any. 🤷‍♂️

You need to search Outbreak state HGEs for PIs (preferably in systems that are not controlled by empire or fed). I usually filter the map for high population outbreak systems and jump between those (stopping by boom systems en route if necessary and picking up other HGEs for cross trading and lightweighting).

Your best bet is to just farm in a boom system for that grade 5 only one jump away from the material trader then trade 100 for 16. You can get 16 isolators every 20 minutes.

for g5 manufactured go to you galaxy map and set it to find systems for very high populations in the federation or empire like over a billion and each time scan the nav beacon and it will show you the HGE which contain nothing but g4 and g5 manufactured mats, this helps if you have a long jump range, BTW HGE stands for High Grade Emissions

@@sirlurksalot4454 also when ur done with the HGE, fully exiting the game, logging back to solo (or whatever you were in before) and going into supercruise should spawn some unidentified signal right next to your ship with fresh mats.

I don't think there are any because Selenium isn't classed by the game as a grade 4 or 5 raw material, even though it's classed as grade 4 by the material traders. It's still seen by the game as grade 2, since that's what it was originally when the materials came out with Horizons. FDev just overlooked updating the game when they brought out the material traders and re-jigged a lot of the classifications. Which means it's found through surface prospecting, or in competition with other grade 2 materials in Crystalline Fragments at Geological sites on a planet/moon with a % of it in its composition.

@@TheKermit2110 LHS 417 9 E A; Located 26 ly from Sol and with 4.9% selenium and 2.5% total of the other materials in the same category means that roughly 2/3 of the drops of that grade are going to be selenium.

My typical spot for Selenium prospecting is Puppis Sector OI-T B3-6 A 5 B. I've had really solid drop rates here, not to mention it's close to Shinrarta. It also has arsenic, albeit it's far less common. eddb.io/body/690792

To save everyone else time, in Odyssey, there's no biological/geographical sites that are selectable in the nav panel. This isn't a bug either, this is intended as you're supposed to use the DSS. That being said, it's more tedious than it was before, so RIP to fast and easy engineering mats.

I just collected materials on those planets in Odyssey without any problem. It's as easy as in EDH for me

Is there a reason why my surface scanner is not picking up anything on any planet? No matter what filter I have on it only shows a landable planet and that is it 🤔 so irritated as I just flew all the way out here 😡😂

FDEV changed the scanner system after Odyssey Update. Maybe you can find the locationsn, if you start horizon (Elite Dangerous)

I have been stuck on this the whole day today, The POIS after Odyssey expansion have been removed, just land on the darkest blue area that you see on your heatmap and you will find them.

I'm out there now. Seeing all that black gives me anxiety. Lol. It's definitely out there.

For Selenium look at the KAPPA-1 VOLANTIS B3FA, farm the brain trees

@CoffeeAndVapes the brain trees are a biological site on that planetoid, was just there yesterday. All the drops from the brain trees are not selenium though. Here is the breakout: Phloem Excretion (total 4) Tellurium (all 4) Mussidaen Seed Pod (total 10) Tungsten - 8 Tin - 2 Polyporous Growth (total 14) Chromium - 6 Selenium - 5 Zinc - 3 Cordycep Growth (total 19) Carbon - 10 Phosphorous - 3 Sulphur - 3 Nickel - 2 Iron - 1

@@TrangleC What's your jump range? My buddy had the same issue and his was about 35. My conda's got significantly more, so I don't know what the minimum is but maybe try adding some more engineering or a guardian FSD or even strip down some ship components to up your jump range and try again?

There are Selenium Crystal shards out there, quite a few. Although none has been found close to the Outotz sites (yet). The closest so far is Col 359 Sector Wo-o b49-4 2 E. (that's wo-o NOT w zero-zero), a stone throw "north" of Mammon System (with mammon monitoring facility) in the colonia highway. Sadly this is basically the opposite way from the other crystal sites, but it's selenium... and selenium is used so much for so many things I've gone here a bunch of times and for me it's worth the trip eventhough it's only one material and the "wrong" way.

I thought the crystal shards only had grade 5 raw materials, and selenium is only grade 4. That's why there's no way to get that from crystal shards.

I heard Hutton Orbital is giving free Selenium this week.

All of these (biological) sites are "interesting" (insane), except HIP 36601 C1D for Ruthenium (not tested yet), tested couple of days ago X-mas 2020 (in particular Technetium - needed to unlock shock cannons, human technologies) but until they're nerfed one of these day by Frontier Dev...

Doing it right now, you just have to launch as Horizons instead first before you land.

that's hilarious, that's exactly what happened to me. I assumed because it was crystal formations it was going to be geological and when I showed up there it was under whelming to say the least

wish i could mine from my ship. the srv feels so terrible to drive

Selenium sucks the big one. Ridiculous grind to get that stuff.

Why the hell these are biological is absolutely beyond me, but either way I'm one step closer to a full material inventory with this information.

This is ruined for Odessey owners!! still works on horizons accounts...

You shouldn't recommend the Selenium planet. Most of the geological sites float in the air due to the craggy/canyony surface. What a total waste of time, like an hour and 33% off my hull, as well as a ship I had to recall 5 times for one pickup to get like 3 or 4 pieces of Selenium. The rest of the video is fine, great even, but there has to be a better place for Selenium than that shithole of a planet.
