50% of this race is basically underwater dolphin kicks (and breaststroke pull outs). Which is crazy compared to a long course swim. To dominate here you definetly need a very good breath hold and streamline kick.

Leon already swam 4:04.28 last summer in the 400m IM long course and he improved his 400y IM by nearly 5 seconds since last year. So, that alone would imply that he has the ability to swim at least 5 seconds faster in the 400m IM. So that would be under 4 minutes. Having said that Leon is a beast under water and there are half as many turns in the long course version so let's pretend that adds 2 seconds to his time. So I think 4:02 is a good conservative estimate.

Question? Is it a flat wall or is there a trough to grip/grasp a hold of to pull yourself forward coming into the turn on both fly and breaststroke? The reason I ask is because I know I am faster with a grab turn rather than hitting a flat wall with my hands. It is still the most amazing IM I have ever seen. Will the Phelps 400m long course last much longer? only a fool would bet against Marchand!PS Thank goodness the Leah Thomas nonsense is all but cleared up, all records should be voided and all female competitors moved up one place to the correct result. This farce should NEVER have been allowed to happen! As was said, you can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig....🐖

@@terrificleon Nope it's a bloke, and he was too selfish to acknowledge the real women's biological identity in the events. You can not change XX & XY no more than you can change your age. Prove me wrong, you can not and you know it. By entertaining these self promoted fantasies and taking advantage of the (now outdated) rules the whole system and that of competition has been undermined by these cheating pinheads. Please do not be upset by the facts, your feelings are of no concern to me and the vast majority of people. For the record I would love Thomas to read this, it's about time he apologized for his offensive conduct, he has no ground to stands on for his dreadful self-centered behavior in taking advantage of women. I have no objection to what people do in the privacy of their own homes, each to their own. I do not however tolerate the idea of men trying to pretend they are women and justify it just by just saying they are "female or women" in public. Thomas even went as far as undressing in front of female competitors in the changing rooms, how do you think they (the young women) felt about having a man with long hair exposing his junk in front of them. Fact's not feelings are all that is pertinent. Some of these biological women have lost scholarships because of his behavior. Do you endorse or condone Thomas? Thomas is a bloke and I do not need to be a vet to know he is a dog or pig, you can chose. If that doesn't offend you then how would it be if he undressed and exposed himself in front of a young girl or let's say your daughter in the showers? Would you really want to accept that? Honestly? There are laws in place to stop this sort of conduct or were you not aware of that? He should have been held to account and prosecuted by law. No, no, no this nonsense has to stop and anyone who goes along with this charade is just as culpable in causing dismay and disgust. YOU should be ashamed of yourself for tolerating this idiotic exploitation of women, you have no right to do so and never will. If my daughter was ever in this position of compromise I would have told her to stand down and not compete, hours of training wasted because of this sorry item of an excuse for a person. Every official, every parent should have boycotted the event, Thomas should have been disqualified before this farce was even considered or have been allowed to take place. I can tell you now anyone who had behaved as Thomas did in the changing rooms would not get half a seconds benefit of the doubt from me and the results that would most surly have followed. I might be 67 but I'm 6 foot 2 inch built like a brick shithouse and I don't tolerate this sort of conduct, I never did and I never will. How dare you pass comment on me, you are in the wrong and you know it. YOU should show contrition and apologize to me. I will welcome and accept that. Trust me, I tempered my comments about Thomas but I stand by them. I am not prepared to compromise my opinion in this case and that of others who have exploited women. Finally WADA has made a decision that has been too long in coming, read it and digest it, if you have gone past puberty as a male you are a male, no if's or but's, you know full well that men are men and women are women and nothing can justify this sort of conduct or behavior by Thomas. Have a very nice day.
