Diesel particulates precipitate out of the atmosphere and thus don't add to the atmospheric pollution as much as a petrol motor. Ofcourse once the diesel settles it creates a surface gunk but that is far less harmful than airborn pollution.

Except... that these engines have so much torque that they don't rev anywhere near as high as gasoline engines in drag racers. And they are much more reliable for just about any purpose, even drag racing. The trees, nature itself and the Earth would return to the chat if only bio-diesel was used which could drastically cut down on pollution. (Cooking oil or maybe even coconut oil, for instance.)

Well, smoke means that bigger turbo forcing more air is fair game. Though dumping fuel like that is done to protect the engine because of the boost. But then again, water injection also exists that accomplishes that and it even reduces emissions.

@@ethanlamoureux5306 i didn't think top fuel dragsters used radial tires ,,the tires on a top fuel dragster go from small to large and act like part of the gear ratio in a transmission ,,drag racing tires are pretty neat ,,oughta see what a 4x4 pulling truck can do with a set of Hoosier wrinkle wall drag slicks can do on dry pavement ,,i've done a few tug of war pulls with my sled pull truck on dry pavement my 3/4 ton chevy square body weighs under 6000 pounds and with the right tires my 5800 pound 4x4 can make a truck 3 times my size look stupid ,,including dragging an F450 superduty tow truck around in circles backwards while he was turning all 6 tires

wrong. Diesels produce more harmful emissions than gasoline cars. Where gasoline cars score worse is co2. Diesel cars score worse in every other regard. Modern diesels have a ton of emissions equipment ... why do you think that is? Because they have less emissions? For fun? No ... because their level of pollution would be unacceptable otherwise.

@@Chris-ol2rq That's exactly what it seems like. Sure, electric cars RUN clean. However the manufacturing process, recharging, and disposal ends up being more harmful. Of course it's more economically safe to manufacture, run, and dispose of electric cars when there are so few. If the ratio of electric cars on the road to fuel burning cars was reversed we would be considering "switching" to fossil fuels. My point is that it is exactly that, a marketing trick. Regardless of when the emissions are being produced they are still being produced. Even a solar powered car would take hundreds of thousands of miles before it became more efficient than a regular engine due to the high pollution from the manufacturing processes, and that's if they were practical enough to end up driving hundreds of thousands of miles in the first place. This ecofriendly crap has made people forget what's maybe the most important law of thermodynamics: conservation of energy. Instead of trying to circumvent physics we should be trying to find ways of moving pollutants to a place which is less harmful to us. Or for that matter, moving US to a place pollution has not yet effected, then rinse and repeat.

Damn that's freaking wicked.

I'll say it again.....When shooting video of drag racing, it defeats the purpose of the video of you zoom in on the car as it goes down the drag strip! Isn't the idea to show how fast the car is? Well, if your camera is zooming the whole time the car is moving away from you, then you can't tell how fast it's accelerating. If you want to show closeups of each car, do that before the race, then during the race you should turn your camera's zoom off to shoot the video of the car moving away from you down the track. That's the only way to illustrate how fast the cars are accelerating away from the starting line....

They put out so much damn soot. They pollute like mad, but make a lot of power.

Reminds me of diesel trucks and tractors at a tractor pull when these beasts get the turbo wound up.

How much torque do these things make? About 4500-5000 ft/lbs ?

They probobly do thier best to try and limit the torque as much as possible and just chase HP. I would imagine it's up there though. Unfortunately diesel just isn't a good fuel for making horsepower.

Alex Hendel haha your correct I ain't that stupid. I've had the pleasure of taking apart and blocking off the intake on a bobcat that ran away cuz we flipped it on it's side.

The same sound i hear when ever the neighbor turns on their lawn mower 0:52 And this is exactly what am hearing.

Not true. I can crank 1000000Nm of force with one finger. Only at a very low horsepower rating. Torque doesn't mean a lot without context. (RPM's)

The legend say that even nowadays this diesel monster increased the rotation speed of the earth by an unknow source of demoniac torque.
