Aldi is no brother company of Lidl. I work at Lidl in Germany and yes, we have to scan a certain amount of articles per minute (35-40 articles). This is not sad, that's just the way how discounters work in Germany. You have to work really fast (not only at the cash register) so the company doesn't need to hire too many people. But she's doing it way too fast, my boss would call that unfriendly to customers. That's the better setup to have for cashiers. Where I work, they have us stand behind the scanner, with the bags in between us and the scanner. It makes things a lot less speedy. Simply put, the way they have things set up in this store is more efficient
They do this at ALDI all the time. ALDI keeps stats of it.

This store is called Lidl. Kind of like Aldi. I work at one in the U.S. Just like Aldi, our “products per minute” are timed and they want us really fast. Our job relies on it cause if you go below a number you get written up. Now don’t get me wrong, this cashier was going obnoxiously fast and she could’ve taken it slower out of respect of the customer.
