Remember legato is a sound, not a physical technique. You can use all hammer-ons/pull offs and still have a staccato sound. I feel like not enough guitar players remember that

@@jordanj9069 It's funny, legato is often seen as the easiest way to play fast but actually legato in its true sense is incredibly difficult. Maybe one of the hardest things? Playing a whole passage and not hearing a single string change like Holdsworth did it just insane.

Yeah personally tho I prefer the holdsworth legato style where you only use hammer ons, to me thats the gold standard of "pure" legato (I dont mean that in a snobby way)

Tapping is for mindless shred-heads It can however, be very nice when used in moderation but anyone tapping more than 4 times a solo are in grave danger of Baby Dick Syndrome

I think it sounds cool to pick half the notes in a legato run. It sounds a lot different when you pick every other note instead of just picking each string once
Great lick and I love how you put it in context. A lot of lessons like these don't do that.
Playing rock on acoustic
It’s never what notes but how they’re played . Timing is everything , then melody which touches on specific intervals . Or just noise
Randy Rhoads used that lick a lot during spotlight solo’s

You’re fucking AWESOME !! I love your freaking energy man!!
I love your videos, man. Thanks for sharing.
Hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides, and taps are techniques collectively referred to as "slurring." Whereas "legato" refers to the sound produced. More to the point, slurring can produce a staccato sound, and picking/sweeping can produce a legato sound. It's all in the articulation.
Legato sure is flashy! But never easy!! You have to practice your legato game bro!

He's an internet guitar teacher bud. 90% of what they say or claim is major league BS. They're trying to sell a product and they know only 1-2% of people that pick up a guitar is willing to sit down a d practice Legato for 4 years to develop the necessary strength and accuracy it takes to develop a good Legato technique especially with a solid pinky finger. Everyone else wants God like technique and chops in 6 months and actually believe its possible so telling them the truth = no new sucker students. But my favorite number 1 Internet Guitar Teacher bullshit claim is the one where they say. "It doesnt take strength to play guitar, you needz to do the relaxingzzz". 🤣 Yes, you indeed should try and relax, but good look getting the required strength and accuracy by relaxing. The human body just doesn't work that way. My second favorite bullshit line is, "you have to play fast to get fast". I bet Chinese classical musicians get a kick out of that with their robotic, technique they all possesses via painfully slow, mistake free practice. Practicing fast only guarantees one single thing, you'll be making more mistakes.

Get a shorter scale neck guitar like a junior or melody maker, ask your local guitar supplier the frets are a lil bit smaller it made reaching 5 frets easy for me as I had same problem even after playing for years. Hope this helps bro 🙏
the actual soloing concept is a great add !
The algorithm recommended a gem this guy is slick! 💪🏾
Thanks good stuff. You rock 🎸!!
The trick is to liftoff instead of pull off. And listen to as much Allan Holdsworth as you can. You don't get any more fluid legato on guitar than that!
@3halfshadows

The trick is to make your hammer ons, pulls offs, and picked notes the same volume. +1 for Holdsworth
When he said acoustic I knew what was gonna happen
Killer !!!🤘
Make it all hammer ons and legato suddenly becomes one of the hardest techniques out there.
Man I really enjoy learning from you ❤
I always love the context part
Fantastic lick . Merci
Beautiful brother!
Awesome little lesson
I love that Tele, particularly that finish, and it’s a 62’ banded style, looks like custom shop - very nice
Beautiful.
Once I learned the truth I sold all my electrics.
Thank you Brandon 🎉
Thank you Brandon for the tip much appreciated
The drums on that demo got me thinking of a certain website 🤔
Funny and flashy? Awesome! 👏 😃👍
Refreshing to see a young guy doing diatonic scales, they’re important! Doe ra me fa so la te doe is a diatonic scale, 7 modes. How many guitarists know that pentatonic scales fit perfectly into diatonic scales? You certainly do! 👍👌
THANK YOU FOR THIS AMAZING TIP! also I thought the number one easy flashy thing was tapping
Hahahah “to your imaginary friends” haha love this guy 😂 excellent legato 😍

Thank you Sir for providing tablature for this Short video ❤
That is pretty sick...
“proceeds to show you a sick technique” anyway… so here’s wonderwall
Doing this lick on acoustic will strengthen your left hand more than doing this lesson on a Tele because the action and string gauges are usually higher on acoustic. Playing acoustic in general is more difficult because it requires more hand strength. Nylon string classical might be a good alternative from which to start for building hand strength.
Mark Tremonti uses this style of lick in about every solo he plays!!! Saturate it with a wah and it sounds beautiful!!! Great lesson man.
Bro plays ao fast i dont have enough time to pause it 😂
Sic shit man! 🤘
That legatto is from the Rhandy Rhodes Tribute Solo ❤
Lmao that ending killed me.
Damn good tone btw
Why do I always fall for this shit
Imaginary friends 😂 true.
You are the proof genius are all a bit crazy. 😁👍🎸❤️
Well acoustic can be the flashiest when you play it right billy strings or tommy Manuel can put shred just about anyone yeah I know there other but they were who came to mind first. When I was younger I never touchy my acoustics but nowadays it’s really all I play there something about the simplicity of just you an a guitar that makes it so beautiful you have nothing to hide behind or mask your playing when you mess up it noticeable l. Kinda like how playing slow is harder than fast not playing slow to learn a part but when you play part that have silent notes an space when you hit a wrong note it takes so long for the next to come that it just screams f up lol we’re playing fast it over an your on to next a lot of time ppl don’t even realize u hit a wrong note
"Imaginary friends"💀
I learned the lick by pausing the video and my reward at the end is getting wanderwalled, holy molly
This what it sounds like when doves shred
"For your imaginary friends" 😅 I came here for a lesson not personally attacks

Certain things ya just can't do on an acoustic. I refuse to buy myself a good quality electric until I can prove to myself that I'm a dedicated guitar player on my acoustic.

#1 is slapping on a capo and fingerpicking acoustic
Wonderwall.... Now Just Leave. Love it.
Im so totally watching for the wrong reason (😂) … but I’m learning so much … to incorporate into my keyboard playing as well.
I've always liked picked stuff. Its why zakk wylde sounds like machine gun percussion because he picks Everything.
