Ive done 3 trips from California to Ohio and back in my 2023 Bolt EV. first 2 were durring Summer time and they were flawless trips. It Charged as it should and got the range it should. I never had to push it further than 180 miles between charges. this last one we did in last month and the average day was 20F to 35F degrees. Almost didn't make it to a charge stop and it was only a 130 miles from last charge so we started charging at no more than 100 miles between charges.

Even battery preconditioning would be a help.

I just got a 2023 bolt euv and I'm so glad I live in California. I'm also lucky my commute is only 14 miles, so it turned out to be a great commute car.

The Bolt EV won't see peak charging speeds until the battery reaches 65 to 70 F. For better or worse, it's a highly efficient platform all-around, so even the act of DC fast charging it is unlikely to bring the battery up to the ideal charging temperature within that period. That being said, saying that the Bolt EV isn't ideal if you have a long commute and can only rely on public charging is pretty much true for any EV, even Teslas where the wait time to access local Superchargers can be inconvenient. If you have home charging, anything less than a 150-mile daily commute should be fine, even in extremely cold weather.

Ya the bolt is not a fast charging car, really is not a road tripping car unless you are willing to sit at chargers a while. This car is perfect as a to and from work car and small trips around town or just outside of town. Really best to have a home charger with this vehicle.

Lots of you tubers have driven thousands of miles across country in the bolt. KZreadr plug and play ev had 2 bolts and drove from Boston to Austin Texas 4000 miles round trip. And lots of Boston to Cleveland Ohio. My 2012 leaf only gets 7 kWh in a hour a bolt would be an upgrade. People need to do research before buying a car. If you know what you have you don’t need to make videos about complaining about the charging.

@@markfitzpatrick6692 100% agree, it absolutely can do a cross country trip. I for one wouldn't because of the charge speed but yes it can be done. I drive and Audi E-tron, Tesla Model 3, and a Ford Lightning extended range so it is hard to go backwards to 50KW charging speeds but thats just me.

Yup..unless you have plenty of time to kill to charge every 100 miles but most people can't do that..

Remember that the BOLT was originally designed and conceived as a COMMUTER CAR. It's dating from 2016 when 50 kwh was the norm. Except for Tesla.

If you're going to make videos about EV charging please learn the substantial difference between kW and kWh

If a Bolt is what anyone can afford, the Bolt is the ideal EV and any constraints are easy to be dealt with. GM went cheap and that choice brings affordability to the EV market. The owners of other EV brands with longer range and faster charging have their limitations as well. For example driving a 300 mile range Tesla Y at 85 mph means about a 150 mile range., on the TY and more costly, using more kilowatts per mile. That’s a limitation. As long as there are more EVs not polluting, the technology is awesome. 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SE RWD long range battery.

Would have been interesting to change to a different charger to see if it stayed the same.

Can't that charger preheat your battery? Oh wait the battery has thermal mass like a water heater..

Chevy has NOT changed the technology since the Bolt was designed and it maxes out at 54kw! So even on the nice Electrify America fast chargers that can do 150kw and / or more all you ever get is 54kw! Now this might have been cool 5 years ago, it’s now 2024 and the really fast chargers are starting to pop up all over. I wish GM would do a redesign/upgrade on this functionality!

WHY, WHY WHY don't these DC fast charging stations have HEATED inside parking/charging places!! It w3ould mean faster full charges, as well as a more comfortable wait time. I have a 2023 Bolt EUV. OTR DRIVING IS A NIGHTMARE. I live in eastern TN in Appalachia with few DC fast chargers. I am very happy home charging at up to 40 amps with an easy overnight full charge and a realistic range of 180 to 200 miles range. Trust me, EVs in future models will be MUCH BETTER, but not there yet!

As a fellow creator I wanted to let you know that you sound rather quiet, not so bad that I can't hear but a little loader would be preferred. The video overall is pretty good for being a small new creator. Keep it up! I would have preferred a time-lapse instead of the cuts on the drive down at 3:40.

I had to sit with a DC charger for 1 hour just to get less than 50% charged once, while other cars are pulling more than 50kw easily. It is good to know that battery heater is max 2kw, and that explains why my level 1 charger (110v, 12a) barely charge anything over cold nights.

why I am glad I did not get one... I was about to trade in a 2021 Ford Ecosport on a Bolt but decided not too and to wait for something better to come along next year hopefully.

Imagine sitting there in your EV for hours at or near a gas station and watching 200 ICE car drivers fill up their cars and go on their way in 5 minutes while you're still sitting there for hours at 27 or 30 percent

The Bolt is quite the cookie jar, isn't it.... If it weren't for the "fast" acceleration, this car wouldn't sell well at all I think.

Just rent a gas car bro. 😂

Oh yes! Charge up your phone and put those kids to work. Those batteries contain cobalt too! What a time! Gas up your car while you’re at it! Petroleum is refined with cobalt catalysts! What a time! The point is that if you really cared about child labor and dangerous working conditions, you would be taking a multifaceted approach to this issue and not cherry pick it! A number of manufacturers, including Tesla, have committed to or are already using either recycled or ethically sourced cobalt and other materials.

Yeah before some goes and buys the latest phone think about the children then too. Used batteries are already mined but most still have plenty of usable life left. Also, the battery already exists at this point not charging it is just a waste to the world. EDIT: they use cobalt catalysts for combustion vehicles.
