The difference here is amazing! To make it a truly fair test though, I think you would need to slow the airdog flow output down to somewhere between idle and cruise flow rates as it is a demand flow system and fass is a constant return system. I still think the fass would way outperform the airdog, but to be fair you don’t run down the road at the max flow of these pumps. Holly molly though, I was skeptical on the no drain water separator, hard to argue with results like that!

such an amazing system I dare to say Fuel stations could surely use a system that can polish fuel this good but then again they probably can care less that's why having a FASS system in our personal vehicles is not only helpful but Vital for the proper fueling needs of the simples to the most complicated fuel systems of this era saving the end user Money time and most definitely our trucks. Thanks Fass for all the R&D that goes into these units constantly. You guys ROCK! Blessings to all from Kissimmee FL.

I’ve got a FASS 165 on my Cummins. It was sitting in 5 degree weather overnight last weekend. I kept my block heater plugged in all night. Went to start it the next morning and it fired right up, but would only run variably for a few minutes or so before shutting off. Like it kept getting starved for fuel. My differential diagnostic considerations included frozen water in the separator obstructing fuel flow, water getting past the separator or fuel gelling. I took a hair dryer and warmed the fuel filter and water separator canisters on my FASS for about 45 mins. I also added diesel 911 fluid as well as iso-heet fluid. That fixed my issue and I subsequently drove it for 300 miles that afternoon. I doubt it was fuel gelling as I run cold weather power service diesel fuel supplement all winter and 5 isn’t really all that cold. So it had to have been some issue with the water separator freezing. Any thoughts as to what was going on there or how to prevent it in the future? Should I change my separator filter after that event? What kind of temperatures would you recommend adding a heater kit to the system?

  • @FASSFuelSystems

Awesome question, and on the newer Titanium series we changed filter placement. The particulate filter will be first to pull all the larger debris, and particles out of the fuel, and then sent to the water separator to complete the polishing process. • @FASSFuelSystems

That tube is actually on the pressure side of the pump. It is part of how the air is separated from the fuel. We use this display to show the difference in our water separation compared to the competition. We use both our regular length XWS-3002 and PF-3001 filters as well as our extended length XWS-3002 XL and PF-3001 XL filters on this display. Leaving the tube out makes it easier (and cleaner) for us to change out the XWS-3002 XL when we are using this display at a show.

@@FASSFuelSystems but I’m also thinking that tube would’ve been low enough in the filter to grab the separated water. But I do think you’ll end up with water on that pressure side if there’s that much in the tank.

By video recording the cloudy fuel tank with the water in it until the fuel/water has naturally separated. Then show us the video of the water naturally separating out at 20 times normal the speed or 50 times normal speed or whatever is a reasonable time for us to actually see the water naturally seperate out of the fuel. • @FASSFuelSystems

The XWS-3002 will hold approximately 120 ML of water, most diesels will not see that much contamination level throughout the filter service interval. The service interval is 20,000-30,000 miles depending on fuel quality. If the XWS-3002 becomes completely plugged with water, it will stop fuel flow and blow the FASS fuse preventing water from reaching your injection system. If it didn't stop fuel flow, you would have water pass through and shut the engine off due to fuel system damage. We're saving injection systems!

Interesting, however, and stop me if I am wrong as I am new to fuel filtration, but isn’t the Airdog filters used to prevent air in the system and not necessarily water? If that last statement holds truth, that is comparing two dissimilar products. My real question is, could anyone please provide me with disinterested product testing of this FASS system, a CAT filter, or any other reputable filter manufacturer (similar to what Project Farm offers)? Thanks in advance. I am personally leaning towards the just released new product by SPE (2020 F350 PSD). I have to do all that I can to protect that lily ass Bosch CP4 pump. Such a huge fail on behalf of FoMoCo.😞

Kinda funny how one of fass marketing points is that they are quieter but in this video the airdog was quieter than the fass.

I haven't heard a quiet FASS Pump yet. I'm running the Airdog ll-4g and it's whisper quiet. Very Happy with Airdog.

It's trapped in the element itself! Unlike older style filters, ours traps the water within, instead of pooling it at the bottom (which can lead to damage in some situations).

Why mileters? Most Americans don't have a clue of the metric system unless it is a wrench. If you want to say "X" mileters then give the rough translation so people can visualize the volume of water added. Also, please drain the water out of both filters to drive home the water separation difference.

Sorry but did I just miss something here ???? Why did you change filters on the second test ???? I think you are hiding something here !!!! I guess I will have to do more research with a more unbias company !!! I am not convinced !!! If you stood behind your product you wouldn't have changed filters !!!! Now I ask you to change my mind !!!!

I was sold on the fass until he changed the filter, but i guess it would have locked up the filter with all that water. When you could have just drained the airdog. Not say what is better but i think the fass could leave you stranded if you dont carry extra filters. But the airdog could trash your system if that water passes. Still try to figure out what Susie gunna buy.

He put the XL filters on it. So it could trap more water in the filter vs the standard size one.

He simply put the XL extreme water filter on. Your mind doesn’t need to be changed on anything. It’s your lack of basic intelligence. Go buy the airdog or any other competitors system and while you’re at it order a complete new fuel system to because you will be needing one. Leave the FASS for me and the pros.

Cant rely on this test. I'm pretty sure he just cross threaded the first filter he screwed onto the airdog. If he didnt cross thread it, something isnt right. Never seen a filter take so much effort to screw on.

Thanks for reaching out, David! We actually have mobile versions of this test that we take across the country to various events. If you ever happen to run into us at a show, race, or trade event, definitely feel free to look it over! We assure you that everything with this test, and our mobile displays, is above-board. There is also 3rd-party water separation data available on our blog showing the drastic differences between our Extreme Water Separator and our competitor's.

Why was there no suction tube on the FASS? Why did he put the filter on the water separator side and the water separator on the filter side with the Airdog??
