The speed at which some of the tiktok fads are flying by is absolutely astounding to me! I love seeing people experiment with style but I lowkey can't wait until every possible outfit has been turned into a weekend trend until we're left with no trends and wear whatever we want and we all hold hands :)

I think this is already happening?? Like I think trends are for people who don't really have a set style (teenagers for ex.), because to actual "fashion influencers" they know what they like and what fits them, and it varies from niche to niche. Like for ex, I follow Vogue just because I find it funny that they try to find trends in a world where everyone just wears whatever they want 😅

Do you notice that the more new a trend is, the worse the options are for shopping for it? Like Y2K jewelry is all cheap charm necklaces from Aliexpress? Like it feels like the people who want to be the most current and trendy actually suffer for it. I guess that's how it's always been

The person I know that wears hunting camo as fashion is my 75-yr-old, vegetarian aunt. Worn with jeans, a white bun, big glasses, and southwestern jewelry, so in her case it's brilliant and ironic.

I really like this kind of content because I feel so much fashion content is about "run to this store, get this, buy this before it's too late" and just having someone say "are you sure you even like this?" idk makes me kinda happy. I love burgundy for example and I'm still looking for a cool leather jacket in that colour second hand, but I also have been looking for like a year now.

I actually like the hunting camo thing, but I also struggle to articulate what it's communicating - it's a bit masc, a bit grunge, and reads as working class and potentially "tacky", but also has an outdoorsy vibe rather than a military connotation. It's definitely ironically "ugly", but also plays nicely with the earth tone colour palettes that are currently popular in my sphere. A sufficiently muted RealTree print almost functions as a complexified neutral. I actually don't really like most of the inspo pics you showed though - I enjoy it more when it's styled as a twist of interest to an outfit rather than as the star of the show.

The one niche aesthetic trend that I have loved in the past year is siren/mermaid/ocean core. That's because 1. It's pretty, and 2. It focuses on creatively arranging pieces with different textures and colors that most of us already own, therefore making it achievable and iconic

The childhood associations of certain clothes being dorky, ugly, or embarrassing really just sticks in the mind and can ruin some clothes! 😂 For me, no matter how cute or stylish they are, pointy toed shoes of any kind are just "those shoes my grandma used to wear to church". Like you need to also have beige pantyhose on with them. 😅

I feel like the “office siren”/corporate core and hunting camo having a similar appeal in that the people wearing it haven’t experienced these looks for their original intended purposes. Meaning people who like corporate wear generally don’t have to/haven’t had to wear it for a job and people who like hunting camouflage haven’t necessarily been around people who wear it for hunting/gone hunting. That’s just something I’m feeling. Because I haven’t seen a lot of people in my real life circles wearing either

I think I love the “just below the knee” capris for the very reason that you dislike them, and am only now realizing that’s why I like them so much! I’m also short, BUT my legs are kinda long for my frame, and I have a pretty short torso, so I think that the capris cutting off my legs at that point makes them look more proportional to the rest of my body. I def understand people not liking them though!

I so agree with you on all of these. Especially laughing at the dorky 10 year old reference as someone who got thin prescription glasses at 10 years old. The big cuffs & capris give me nightmares and I’m not even short. I do happen to be someone who’s naturally inclined toward the leopard print, navy, red/maroon & deep greys, but that’s a long-standing thing and won’t be altered what’s “trending”

As an elder millenial, I have to say we had all these trends at one point in the 2000s. My mother had a butter yellow bag that I adored (cannot wear that colour either!), we had the camo, we had the high non-rolled upturns - some were even sewn down 😂 - and the burgundy but not in that quick succession. It all looks so dated to me and I can’t wait for people to come up with something new again, if they ever will. Until then, I’ll be wearing whatever the heck I want, because everybody else seems to go crazy as well. 😅 Thanks for sharing, I thoroughly enjoyed being out of the fashion loop again! 💌

I have short legs too but no problems wearing knee length skirts / trousers as long as my legs are in one color - e.g. naked legs + nude colored shoes, black tights + black shoes or knee high boots. If you haven't tried this, I highly recommend it. As soon as the feet look cut off, the legs look shorter.

(I wanted a ballgown for my prom but stores just didn’t have it back then) So my favorite shade of blue seems to be “in” right now and I’m stocking up on blue things while they’re being made. as a camo lover: i've always liked it, even as a kid when it was trending on the 2000s. I think it is because my preferred aesthetic is kinda "you thought I was going to school but I'm actually secretly ready to go on a hiking adventure" core. And might be me, but the camo just falls onto that category pretty well.

I'm going to say something very controversial, but listen: I am a fan of capris. BUT WAIT!!! Specifically cargo capris, specifically in a lightweight cotton with a little stretch, specifically with a drawstring or preferably knitted waistband. They are so dang comfy when it's hot. They are such a good alternative to shorts when you don't like to show your legs. They are a great alternative to casual skirts when you feel awkwardly "too girly" in a skirt. When the jorts trend took off I realized I've been styling my capris like jorts for years. Loose fit with an oversized button up or tee. They're just comfortable for me. And when it's hot i can wear them to work at my library job. Shorts are not in our dress code but capris and skirts are. So I am a cargo capri stan. Fight me. Also in my area it's super easy to thrift them for about $4 to $6 a pair so a verrry easy style option if you're on a budget as well. And they come in so many colors! I'm not trying to convert anyone here. Don't go to the thrift and buy them all. Please save some for me. 😂

I'm not from America. But there is a little bit of hunting culture in the southland of New Zealand, where one of my exes was from. Their dad gifted us a whole bunch of hunting clothes one year for winter, including some real tree camo pullover jerseys. I wear mine all the time, not only because it's warm and practical for the cold seasons, but because I do actually think it's quite stylish. I love the busy pattern, I love how forresty it looks, I love to pair it with skirts for that juxtaposition of masculine and feminine. Nothing ironic about my love for it at all!

in my mind, the leopard print and camo share a similar quality because theyre both small-all over-neutral prints. And i think they can both be a little ironic in a way, so maybe the camo is a more masculine(?) version of an animal print. I like them both and feel like they are both good options to add patterns to an outfit as someone who tends toward muted colors and prints, like i wear very few bright or bold things and camo is a fun little silly addition to the outfits i like putting together

i think the real tree resonates with me because of my upbringing which like you said, influences what we’re drawn to significantly. my background from the desert, neutral tones, military household etc shaped a lot of my liking towards this military aesthetic as well as my neutral color pallete. i’m working on a collection rn integrating my dads old military uniforms and turning them into practical wear. in my head it’s a way of honoring the sacrifices we’ve made to be where we are and i think it can also highlight the current stance of war around the world and how it effects us

When you were talking about trending colors, the first one I thought of was the chokehold mustard yellow had in like the 2010s at some point. I feel like yellows are particularly hard because they clash with with so many skin tones no matter what the shade is, which is why I can almost never get on board with a yellow trend for myself. I feel like certain blues look pretty good on everyone, wear yellows is like butter yellow will really pop on certain people and really sallow on others.

And also camo print, its going to be so great for me because I make clothes and those are what i gravitate towards! Also ive noticed a lot of trendification of southern styles and southern-fishing-hunting core recently

I like these kinds of videos because sometimes I see things being pushed at me that I have doubts about but I am not really sure why. I try some of them out and find out why, but this kind of video saves me time and helps me listen to those quiet doubts lurking in the back of my mind.

hunting camo as a fashion statement has always been a thing it’s just usually associated with the “american flag print wallet / thin blue line hat / ak-47 decal” contigent and not like, pinterest girlies. just bc we thought it was ugly doesnt mean they weren’t wearing it on purpose!

Also in the short leg club here. I started cuffing a lot of my pants a five or so years ago when it was trendy for the first time and I just really started liking it. It feels very youthful and playful to me, maybe a bit working class ragamuffin. I'm pretty sure I have that green sweater red sock picture on my pinterest lol. I think they have their time and place for sure

I kinda like the hunting camo cause I like green and trees and foresty things. But I don’t like military camo, so the more organic prints appeal to me. I don’t own any, but gonna try to thrift some when this trend peaks.

I also suffer from a Deficit of Leg Length but that's why I think the "true" capris make my legs look even shorter (that, and they hit me right in the center of my calf - super unflattering!) while the modern capris and Burmuda shorts are a better look. Huge cuffs also make your legs look shorter so definitely staying away from that trend. But I like burgundy and it looks good on me, so definitely time for me to give that color more show time. Not butter yellow though. Makes me look washed out.

In the UK during the 90s and we early 2000s, we used to call the “capris” that fall just below the knee pedal pushers, they were very separate than the capris.

As a shortie I'm with you with the capris! It was also interesting seeing how you think about their length. In my memory people had both the longer and shorter versions. I still even have a pair of sportswear ones from back in the day. I didn't really love them even back then and my mum made them less unfavourable by putting an elastic band at the hems. Made them infinitely better, the straight hem at an awkward length on my short figure did not flatter me :DD They work great for dancing, so I've kept them around~

That length of “capris” was called pedal pushers in the 1980s when I was a young teenager. Named after what you’d see men wear in the early 1900 riding a bike. I liked them then.

The Mob Wife look couldn't last too long as the coats are very winter weight. In saying that I live in Australia and winter might arrive (It's still very warm summer temps here ATM even though we're mid autumn). Perhaps the trend will find it's way here. To me it's more like costume dress ups.

I love your style and am very much inspired by it, but today, I hilariously found out that our colour preferences might be entirely opposite 😅 my favourite colours that take up my wardrobe are navy blue (or any blue for that matter), burgundy, deep, cool green, grey and dark brown, and I love the butter yellow pieces in my closet. This video actually made me want to experiment with combining navy and butter yellow 🤭 so thanks!

I feel the same way about the real tree camo thing. I grew up in very rural areas and when I see it I just think about the kid that drove to school on his lawnmower because that was "cool". Of course he was wearing a cutoff real tree camo shirt. *Facepalm*. I feel the same about the cowboy boots even though I want to like some of them haha

I’m someone who grew up LOVING capris and capri leggings (under a skirt, of course) in the 2000s. Personally I think capris are the shorter version. I would call the longer version highwaters, thinking back to a 70s(?) term.

As you’re bashing on hunting camo & I’m ironing it 😂 I think the appeal to incorporate more neutrals is what makes camo print so appealing. Being that you prefer a more colorful palette, it makes sense that you wouldn’t like camo or cheetah (neutral prints) as opposed to gingham or stripes (playful print).

I'm also skipping the leopard/cheetah print trend. I've never been into any animal print in general. Same for camo. Those are some of my least favourite prints tbh. I also agree with you on capris, but I don't even know why I dislike them, as I absolutely LOVE knee length skirts. Maybe it's because a knee-length skirt gives off vintage and elegant vibes, which I'm really into, and a knee-length pants have a really casual, almost leisurely feel that's not my vibe. I already own a pair of pointed toe slingback heels, though. I beleive I bought them back in 2019 or 2020. I love these and I will absolutely continue to wear them. I'm also down for the butter yellow trend. I love pastels in general, so it's already a thing I wear. And if I'm not wearing pastels, I'm wearing jewel tones, so burgundy ties really well with my personal style, too.
