Fashion &... Pierre Cardin

Ойын-сауық

“When I design a dress, I don’t design it around a woman’s body […] I design the dress, and then put a woman inside it.”
- Pierre Cardin
Pierre Cardin cemented his reputation for the Avant Garde in the 1960s through his pioneering styles that defined the sci-fi look of the Space Race era.
He was fascinated by new 'space age' materials and added moulded plastic visors to helmet-like hats to make them resemble astronauts' headgear.
He embraced the Space Age, led a “revolution” in menswear and was one of the first designers to explore the concept of unisex fashion.
He founded his namesake couture house in 1950 but only a few years later launched his ready-to-wear collections and pioneered the democratisation of fashion.
The designer created a distinct Cardin look - clean and minimal, geometric and sculptural and through extensive licensing, extended his design concepts from fashion to furniture, industrial design, and beyond.
Right up until the end of his life, the nonagenarian designer went to his office every day and still sketched new designs and ideas.
Pierre Cardin died on 29 December 2020, at the age of 98.

Well Scott another winner! Since I’m an old lady I have to admit being there in the early 60s and seeing his unique fashions in the magazines of the time. The world was changing and he was a a big part of the era. I remember many of your photos vividly and of course those Beatle suits, thanks for the walk down memory lane! What surprised me was the furniture, wow! Love to own a piece. Can’t wait to see who, or what, you come up with next Scott! P.S. I would love for you to do a video on the talented ... Scott, let’s hear more about you, I’m sure I speak for many of your followers. Stay safe!🌹

Indeed he was! Shame he licensed out his name to so many disparate product categories but his fashion was indeed pioneering and ahead of its time!

Yes he was! I think over licensing his name affected his credibility as a designer however he was still a great pioneer in fashion!

@@Fashionand Yes I do think he saturated the market with his name too much sadly. I was a teen in the 70's and he was everywhere in Australia. Wishing you a Happy New Year and stay safe.
