Native American frybread/bannock has a hole in them usually, thank you very much. The mythos on it I've heard was that it would be too perfect otherwise and we put a hole in it in deference to Creator. The reality is really just when you make it without the hole at the size and thickness typical, youll burn the outside before the inside gets done, so the hole lets the hot grease bubble up through and it cooks more evenly. But at donut size it's not gonna be much of an issue. Wouldn't be surprised if that was where they got some of their idea and just didn't want to credit, though; wouldn't be the first time, and we only started making frybread to use up food commodity allotments from the government back when the reservations were more prisoner of war camps that Hitler was inspired by and directly ripped off. Most would not want that image tied to them if they're not native. Sidebar, I pulled this up somehow in one of my maybe twice a year moments I eat a donut, weird.

Putting a hole in the doughnut drastically increases the surface area to volume ratio and so the taste is very different since much more of the pastry is now fried and glazed than before which would have made the previous doughnuts seem bready and plain in comparison. This is just what I think is special about the doughnut hole. -Chef

I think the funniest news story that I watched on TV in the mid 1990's was when a Krispy Kreme delivery truck was stolen. The video started with the news castor saying that a large police chase is going on, and I was wondering why he was having a hard time keeping a straight face. It was not until they switched to the helicopter that I realized why, seeing a dozen police (the irony of it being 12 police cars) chasing a Krispy Kreme truck.

03:22:12 "Don't try to drink it (Dr. Pepper) when it's gone flat and warm". That's funny because Dr. Pepper was a main-stay advertiser of Dick Clark's American Bandstand TV show, when (during winter months), the ads suggested heating it in a pan until hot as a warmer-upper. The ads showed teens eagerly doing so. And yes... it was god-awful. 😅🤣😂

You can remove the part in the center, lowering costs but charging the same amount. Then use the holes smashed together to make another donut and make more money.
