Fascia Documentary: The network of the body without beginning or end

Ғылым және технология

At this moment, a global revolution in anatomical research is underway, fundamentally changing our understanding of the human body.
This revolution centers around Fascia, a network of connective tissue without a beginning or end, enveloping everything in the body, from muscles and bones to organs and cells.
Fascia, which just a few years ago was not considered significant, was classified in 2017 as the body's largest - and perhaps most vital - organ.
This newfound insight has ignited a flurry of discoveries that are beginning to challenge our conventional beliefs about the human body - and offer new solutions for issues such as back pain, neck problems, and mental health.
Leading the research are experts from countries including Italy, Germany, and the USA, but it is in Sweden where we find the world's leading pioneers in Fascia treatment.

I'm so glad this is coming out. I did training as a massage therapist. I saw miracles just from fascia being worked. When you manipulate the fascia you can have people have emotional outbursts or start crying about a memory from years prior. I started learning about martial artists. Monks who practice iron shirt training or king fu are both strong and flexible. They seem much stronger than their size. It's because they train themselves to be man-sized rubber bands. So much snap! What if rather than the fascia being a cover for the muscles, the muscles are just levers that help move the fascia and that the fascia is actually where our strength comes from? Look at gymnasts. Pound for pound, they are sooo strong. The fascia has more nerve endings than the muscle. What if the fascia is an information super highway. I think this is cutting edge science.❤

@carmaela2689 I agree. I've had professional massages regularly for years. Last month, while fascia 'knots' were being released during a massage, tears started silently flowing and continued throughout the entire process. This had never happened before. I didnt understand why. I was fine when I arrived, but there were problems at home. I came to understand that it was because of the fascia release. I felt amazing when the massage was over. I had never had a massage therapist speak so specifically about fascia release & trauma. The body can store a huge cache of grief, stress, and trauma when emotional needs are denied or neglected. Thanks for pointing that out.

I like the notion that they are "man-sized rubber bands." This has been rearched quite a bit, but you have put it succinctly. I am not sure that the strength comes from the fascia, but looking at the body simply as muscles inserting into bones is a very inadequate perspective. Things are far more complex than that. I will now watch the video. I use the notion of fascial elasticty in my martial arts teaching by the way.

I’m an osteopathically trained hospital based internist…the comprehensive understanding of the body’s musculoskeletal and myofascial systems and its neuroimmunoendocrinologoc integration into physiological and pathophysiologocal processes is absolutely necessary if you want to be a good doctor and treat, help, and promote your patients health and well being. The US Medical System is utterly devoid of this understanding and has the backing of business interests and institutional hierarchical limitations. This has to change. From the biochemical to the biomechanical.

@@thefasciaguide Yes, both I do in NL. The theory is that a traumatic experience, for example early childhood trauma, which is not properly finished (survival energy) by the body's Autonomic Nervous System is stored in the body's Fascia. By gently touching the body and asking informed questions, my practitioner invites my Autonomic Nervous System to open up and release Trauma which has been stored in the body’s Fascia. When survival energy is not finished by the body it will not only be stored, but will also work cumulative because we need more and more energy to manage it. Eventually the body will break down and get sick.

@@thefasciaguideYou may have already heard of it, and even disapprove, but it transformed my fascia and still does. I am 5’5, 110 pounds, athlete but I had this weird hard cellulite. Nothing worse than a skinny lady with cellulite. Anyway, google before and after Ashley Black Facia Blaster (unfortunate name). As I’m sure you know, the resultant black and blue after using her device, blood finally reaching stuck fascia. It doesn’t actually hurt, the bruise. But I’ll tell you, using the device was in the beginning, one of the most painful and brutal experiences. But now at 58 on Monday, my body is totally free of cellulite but more importantly, my fascia is smooth, soft, and my joints are the same. It’s a medieval looking thing, but its capacities should not be underestimated lol. I could say a lot more about it but, just go check it out. When I think of the millions of dollars women spend at plastic surgeons office trying to resolve their cellulite… I’ve left this very comment dozens of times. IMO fascia is the body’s communication system. There is a liquid crystalline matrix in the body made of lipids present in different types of collagen and its various degrees of thickness. The heart has a collagen matrix in its muscle and the pericardium is largely collagen. Fascia is made largely of collagen. As there are more nerve cells in fascia it stands to reason it is a communication network. A shock can relay around the body to create interesting reactions from screams to tears to loss of bladder control etc An insult to the heart can even cause collapse. In acupuncture the San Jiao meridian is the distributor of qi (the body’s electricity) through connective tissue - fascia. Western medicine couldn’t appreciate this network since working on a cadaver, the fluid in the fascia rapidly disintegrates. The number of connections in the entire San Jiao far exceeds that of the brain and central nervous system by many orders of magnitude. Western medicine has only just discovered what it terms a non organ organ! The San Jiao connects between the body and outside it. Perhaps why people “feel” things in their bodies which aren’t seen.

This is very correct and an intereesting take on it. Fascia is, as we try to show in this video the vital part of keeping the body connected. And yes, it is so interesting how a blow to ones foot can travel up and manifest in another part of the body. When you think about, it is logical, pressure needs to stop somewhere, but no one has ever bothered to look into this properly. We have prescribed medicine to help a pain, but not looked for the root of the problem as Carla Stecco is pointing out in the documentary

So good to hear more and more about Fascia in science. Working on the fascia for more than twenty years, looking at osteopaths and Craniosacral therapists all over the world, this doesn't mean we didn't work on that structure so far. It's just that it didn't "exist" in theory and science so that these techniques were often belittled and put into the woowoo area.

I understand that this is (in principle) how DOs differ from MDs, however, my experience is that DOs (at least in the US) practice with the same tunnel vision as MDs. (I don’t understand.) Of particular interest to me is the correlation of childhood trauma with chronic illness in adults (especially autoimmune disorders and chronic pain syndromes.)

  • @thefasciaguide

    @thefasciaguide

Yeah i hear you. I think all of those traumas will manifest in some ways, also I do believe that chronic illnesses isn’t really that. Looking at a lot of the results we’ve seen with treatments and such shows that it’s a lot easier to claim a chronic illness than to go to the bottom of the cause, that people rather treat pain rather than looking what is the root of it

I went to him for more than 10 sessions and lo and behold my protester cuff was healed and my left shoulder was back to normal. It was costly but much better than a surgery. Excellent information regarding the ignorance of fascia by those who need it the most and loads of information for those suffering from issues related to fascia! It is not difficult for everyone to stay healthy, to exercise and to eat well, it requires being responsible for your health. An excellent treatment for fascia issues is Rolfing, it is a hands on treatment that can give complete recovery from structural problems. Problems such as frozen shoulder, carpal tunnel, posture issues and anything that involves the fascia and muscles.

Acupuncture and Massage saved my life. Back in 1996 I was lucky and found a woman who did Russian massage. As a massage therapist myself I have had some people work on me who really had no idea about the body. When I got better I went to a 9 day work shop with an amazing massage therapist from Russia. First thing she taught was starting your touch lightly at first so the body doesn’t tense up. She had a man with a frozen shoulder come in everyday so she could work on it. They bartered her work with his restaurant lunch. She did one kind of tiny friction stroke on him for 15 minutes every day. In 9 days he had full mobility of his shoulder. In Russia they use massage strokes for many ailments. When I stay with my daughter and granddaughters they beg me for a massage. Touch is just magic!

We were trained in releasing, and integrating; trauma and blockages in the body, and witnessed healing on all levels of the being. An accelerative and effective somatic approach. Think Reich Therapy; John Pierrakos, and Alexander Lowen. Men and women, ahead of their time. Wonderful therapies, that were once considered way outside the norm, have become mainstream. Good news. I have developed a neuromuscular feedback therapy that allows me to release trauma(disease) and compression in the human body (and animals) . I realised most people are not functioning consciously but from a subconscious reaction (stress) which is loading energy in compaction for physical defence. I communicate with the brain through the fascia to release this reaction and return the body back to parasympathetic function (wellness). I have had great success with many conditions and diseases including autism and parkinsons etc. I am interested in finding other practitioners with ethical foundation ,to share my knowledge with. I am based in Australia. Happy to connect.

Hello human 😊 I’m in Australia East coast. I’ve been a body worker for the last 20yrs and helped many people with injuries, mobility problems and emotional ‘holding’ in the bodies by working with the relationship between muscles, fascia and nerve system and brain. I’m super grateful for all the doctors, therapists and scientists that help us understand the miracle of our living human bodies. The above video is great and informative about the use of a particular mechanical instrument, yet I’m missing a great deal of info about the origin and pioneers in the field of fascia and about all the different ways we can work with it. In my humble opinion..a therapist may have the knowledge yet lacking healer skills or is too tunnel-visioned with a fragmented approach to treat the patient holistically. I think holistic is the future for medical care.

I am curious if you have trainings translated to english for foreigners who are interested in becoming a fascia specialist? I am in the US and would love to study with you if this is offered. I have 3 decades of bodywork experience as a massage therapist and have contemplated much of what your research is illustrating. I absolutely love the bridging into practice and education for the public to access.

I saw a physical therapist named Mary Maloney in the late 90s & early 2000s, who was a pioneer in this field in the USA. She was invited to Italy to set the standards for evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of fascial problems. She declined because her husband was very sick. She was a wonderful physical therapist. She would state: “I wish I’d gotten ahold of you before you had all of those surgeries.” I’d had 7 pelvic surgeries. I am a pioneer woman West Point grad, and quite petite. Chronic pain started within a month after airborne school. It was assumed to be from pelvic organ conditions, and also GI. I was diagnosed with a rare type internal hernia 8 years after this chronic, 24/7, stabbing pain started. I ended up full of extensive adhesions from all of the surgeries. I was forced to medically retire. I am all for holistic and more gentle treatments.

This is really interesting, thank you for this documentary. How do you people think about the neurogenic tremors (TRE self-help method) concerning fascia? I believe the tremors to be another powerful way of letting our body work with the faszia, connect tissue and reorganise. I'd love to find people who connect the faszial treatment with the neurogenic tremor process :)

I was in a quite a few car accidents ( not my fault lol) and was left with damage and pain . I went through over a thousand PT sessions yoga and a couple Rolfing series of tens focusing on facia head a few major release of pain . The problem was it came back not as severe but would still be crippling. It wasn’t till I changed my eating to a strict carnivore diet including connecting tissues and fat that it went completely away . You are what you eat you need to eat what you are . I’m now at zero pain and zero mobility issues.
