Farting BANG & OLUFSEN BeoPlay A1 | Let's FIX It!

I bought this B&O BeoPlay A1 off of eBay for £42.50... its RRP is an eye-watering £239.99!
It was sold as faulty, with a vibrating fart sound. Nice.
Let's see if we can stop the flatulence and get this thing banging again!
Hope you enjoy!
Steve
PS. I'm not an expert in repairs at all. I do this for fun, and it may not be the best or safest way to go about repairing broken stuff. I'm pretty good at melting plastic though. Please don't copy me - I'm an idiot.

Nice! I haven't seen Milliput since 1998 (sad that I remember the year). My local model shop used to sell it and I used it for an experiment when I worked at Kodak on 35mm film. Glad to see it is still made 👍 I want some now 😂

Yep, air-sealing is crucial to this kind of speaker "cabinet". I fixed one with a similar issue, I sealed up the screw holes as well with tape under the top cover. Working properly the A1s have amazing bass for the size - I run two as a stereo pair when out sometimes and for a tiny portable setup they are pretty awesome and people wonder where all the sound is coming from.

For fixing plastic posts in the past I have wrapped the post in multiple layers of sewing thread and then soaked the thread in CA glue (super glue). It makes a pretty rock solid post once dry.

Steve should do a monthly contest or drawing where someone (maybe a Patreon supporter) wins the privilege of sending Steve a broken device and he'll repair it and send it back.

You can use 5sec glue and baking soda to fix similar plastic damage without waiting for 24 hr. Fast and solid. Fixed a couple of them this way. Working fine now.

Thank you for taking the time to add to B&O world. I was the first posting of how to pair these in stereo - in 2016. I used YOUR wisdom gained now to repair one of THOSE speakers just now. Small world - round circle - good Karma your way !!!!

Thanks, this video was helpful. The problem as you said was the air leaking because it wasn't sealed properly. I just placed rubber seals under the screws and that fixed it for me, didn't even bother with the butyl tape around the edge.

When it comes to ABS plastic which this seem to be using acetone on both ends of the broken plastic and push them together with melt the plastic and fuse them together ones more creating a very strong bond. I have fixed a lot of broken buttons on mice this way.
