@@GSW_on_top that's a useless comparison though. Nick Symmonds would have actually done this at 465 meters if not a little bit farther than that because it's less distance than the 800 he is used to running. I'm not saying bolt couldn't do better than 465 meters. I have no idea tbh, but using his 100 meter time does not make any sense. there's no way he maintains that pace for anything longer.

As someone having recently started to train with the goal of reaching a sub60 400m (pretty distant goal for now), I wonder how you maintain that shape. @@andeolevain In my personal experience...yes you can maintain it, is not extremely easy but I ran all the middle distances throughout highschool and when I graduated (18) I dropped track all of the sudden, when I was about 20 I decided to start doing a bit of excercise again and I am 23 now and I like to play a lot of sports just for the fun of it, I excercise occasionally and I guess I still have the....let's call it....residual cardio and leg strength to run a sub 60 400m, of course if I was to do it it would be the only thing I'd do for the day and I would end up with lactic acid up to my eyes. Last time I tried I did a 58, of course if I was to try a 1k or 1.5k I don't think I could get even close to 3 minutes and not even 5 minutes for the 1.5k like I did before, but I guess 400m is short enough for me to keep doing sub60, keep going at it! That feeling when you do sub 60 for the first time is awesome!

I've run on and off for 50 years and now can barely jog, but after watching this I want to see if I can still improve my speed or distance over 1 minute. When I was 40 I did this on a cycling track weekly for 6 weeks and the best I could do was 70 over 400m and was flying. The first effort was 90s. To think people can do it under 50s is mind blowing. Edit: I have no way to meausure accurately but after a walking warmup I found I can still do a minute with a little pace. Now my goal will be to increase that distance. Only one run for starters. Just found a way to keep my shorts from falling off.
