    LISTEN you have the healer shack wrong imo. If you just remove the worker, the cost remains per month, you have to click the icon on the left side to halt all work, otherwise youre paying rent to not use it. That has been my experience anyway, its not good enough to just remove the worker.

    Heres a tip on getting fertile land for farming. First build a cattle house and let the cows be on a spot where you want to build a farm in the near future. That spot will get 100% fertile after a few years.

    This is pretty effective, started in an area with no fertility to test it out, just make sure there's food for the cows, I tried it with just a hint of yellow in a corner to have something to start from, as in it was mostly just colorless 0% with a hint of maybe 5% just barely visible in the corner of the square for the cows. But basically managed to make a 100% fertility area to build a farm on afterwards, in what was practically a desert. :)

    Blueberry bushes can be moved.... the only ones in-game, so far. You can set down a forager shack near or even in your town (or next to your farms) where there is already an abundance of other things for them to harvest, and then transport the blueberry bushes, one-by-one, to replant within their circle of harvesting. You can literally make a berry farm - and they don't require maintenance like your farms, nor do wildlife eat them and they self-replenish. A good number is about 20 bushes tops for one Forager to handle (that's if they are ONLY tending to the blueberry bushes). Also, depending on what else is nearby (trees, certain bushes, farm, etc.) this makes a good place to place bee hives for a bonus on honey production.

    One good tip for late game, when you have plenty of gold... is to build lots of trees on the deer sites, the more trees you have, the bigger the population you can have too. After building lots of trees on this areas, you can put several hunters near it, for endless source of food and other resources .

    A very usefull thing I found out is that you can drag select villagers and move them to a location and right click on enemies to attack them. Hunters use their bows and have swords, so they would do as guards in early games. I usually gather the hunters to a location to deal with raiders, wolves and bears until I have a defence where they are no longer a need

    You should only disable food storage in the market if your root cellar is near your homes. Otherwise the walk time your villagers waste getting food instead of working isnt worth it. Also for me personally ive noticed food in the market is consumed first so it rarely ever spoils (When food spoils it is indicated where it spoils by an icon over that building)

    The deer "respawn" locations are a big deal for meat, hides, and tallow since they are critical resources for other activities, to include feeding your population. Obviously you don't want the deer population to start losing the chevrons, indicating there are fewer to hunt. I kept the deer indicators on the outside of my first set of walls I put up against raiders, which were of logs, but the raiders didn't seem to think the walls and gates were much of a hindrance. Once I was able to upgrade to stone, it actually slowed them down a bit, but if I didn't have a tower near by, they got busy trying to knock down a section of wall.

    Good advice on early healers hut - be careful with placement because disabling causes a big desirability hit. Lost a lot of homesteads on one of my starts unless the hut was running

  • @wastedwatts

    @wastedwatts

    Жыл бұрын

    Dang! I turned off the Healer's House "rent" payment (30 gold) and sure enough, a short time later some of my homesteads indicated (by a red warming circle above the dwelling) if the desirability didn't improve soon, the homestead would be abandon. I have had to rebuild a few of the Homesteads already so far since once they are abandon they get condemned and decay. I was able to rebuild them with the option for a low amount of resources and builder time, but it does affect available dwelling spaces. That usually means a warning pops up you need more housing.

    This is a really handy trick when starting a new settlement, people get attached a lot by the wild animals, we can select individuals and manually target the animal to kill it. If there is a hunter somewhere and is close by, better use him as he has armour and good damage plus he will harvest meat as well once job is done.

Also, when going from tier 1 to tier 2 tradepost, make sure you already have some tier 2 products to sell (furniture, iron bars, weapons etc..) otherwise, its best to stay at tier 1 and sell butloads of coal and clay.

    @@FiveN9ne I tried making a double wide road near by town center and so far it doesn't seem to be allowed. What I would like to see is the first road is a foot path until your town has wagons, and a short time later, you can put in the cobble road system. • @Kysen

    I don't know if there is any conclusive answer to this, however, I have heard a lot of support for a 10x5 farm with 2 workers. I think rather than the optimal size farm it's more about the optimal ratio of workers to farmland. So long as you have a sufficient number of farm workers and you keep the weeds/rocks low and fertility high with a reasonable crop rotation you should get good harvests :)

    I haven't played the game you references. Though, the game does a lot of heavy lifting to automatically assign villagers to their necessary tasks. When your population is not growing as fast as your settlement is developing - you'll notice the new building constructed have a symbol overhead and when you click the symbol it will pull up a list of your villagers so you can assign one - and that villager will quite the current job to take up the new job. One essential management technique, as suggest in another comment, is to remove farmers from their job during winter - so that they become a laborer - and simply reassign them back to the farm each new spring. Similarly. It is possible for hunter and fishers to deplete their source they harvest from. Disabling the hunter can be crucial for preserving the hunting location as discussed in this video.

    Currently when it comes to planning a location for fruit trees they use a separate fertility grid than what is shown when you press "F". To see this separate grid you need to select the Arborist building from the build menu.

  • @wastedwatts

    @wastedwatts

    I have been using F before placing the Arborist and starting tree planting, but if there is a better option, I am interested. Let me try that. While I am reading this. After canceling the F option, and clicking on the Arborist I placed in the center of the F shown fertile area, the display is indeed different. I guess the idea was to provide a way to see less fertile areas that will grow fruit trees vs. fertile areas that are good for crops.

    Game has no church system. The Villagers are nihilistic atheists wish I knew that. The Devs believed morality is something that you just conjure out of thin air instead of it being evolved across eons through religious endeavor and storytelling. The villagers are all like mini versions of Rodion Raskolnikov. It's a dystopian city builder.

  • @anth5189

    I love this game. It does have some balance and AI issues though. The hunters are kind of dumb and useless. They only appear to hunt one animal, even though they are surrounded by them. That is only when they are not running away from them. The hunters huts will also get a symbol that states they haven't found any animals for a while. Even though you can see a dozen Deer in their hunting zone and villagers are being chased past their huts by Boars and Wolves. It is like, are you blind? I am sure this leads to the inevitable food shortages that "always" happen regardless. In my current game I haver a half dozen hunters, same number of foragers, fishing huts, farm plots etc, and they still keep getting low on food. Kind of ridiculous.
