Farrenc: Piano Trios and Cello Sonata
The case for Louise Farrenc no longer requires special pleading: she has emerged in the last decade as a major figure among French composers of the early-Romantic era, whose neglect in previous eras can only be understood in the context of her gender. Both live performances and recordings have revealed.
Composer: Louise Farrenc
Artists: Sergey Galaktionov - violin, Amedeo Cicchese - cello, Linda Di Carlo - piano.

This new recording presents the beautiful, full blooded romantic Cello Sonata, a gem in its genre, and two Piano Trios, written in a perfect blend of German craftsmanship and French charm. Robert Schumann lavished praise on Farrenc’s early published work, and it is easy to hear why from these two piano trios and Cello Sonata, all of which belong to the mainstream of lyrical Romanticism in its early flowering. Farrenc’s own gifts as a pianist are always in evidence from the intricate nature of her writing for her instrument, but her understanding of the two string instruments, and the tricky balancing between them and the greater volume of the piano, is achieved with unobtrusive mastery in the trios. The slow movement of the Cello Sonata is a gentle, shy song which should delight every new listener to it.

Amazing! I would like to receive more music about women composers!

How nice it is to listen to the wonderful music of Lovise Farrenc! There is so much melodiousness, romantic and sounding beauty in music! Thanks!
Thanks for the post Brilliant Classics, more Ferrenc is always welcome!
Lovely music for Saturday afternoon ! Thank you Briliant Classics !😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤
Never heard of the composer, but the music is brilliant. As always with your choices. Thank you.
Classical music often brings complexity in structure and creativity in the integration of musical elements. This results in a unique and profound musical experience.
Thank you for introducing me to this beautiful music.
How gentle and happy at the same time
I hear the finale of Schubert sonata D 958 in the finale of the E flat trio. According to Wikipedia the sonata was first published in 1838-9, so it's possible Farrenc knew and played it if the trio comes from 1843-44.
Just astonishingly beautiful! Thanks BC!
I've just listened to the first trio so far... wow! This is very good music. I had heard of Farrenc before, but her music is new to me.
Grazie ancora a Brilliant per la pubblicazione di questa incisione meravigliosa per la musica e l'esecuzione
Thank you Brilliant Classics! Indeed this is an excellent showcase for an extraordinary composer.

Thanks for bringing me thruogt the long night 🤗
ABSOLUTLEY LOVELY!❤😊
Wow! Thank you! 🏵
Really nice choice❤thanks

This reminds me of Schubert
😊 on my face!
I doubt the victimhood ideology - that it was the evil "patriarchy" that stopped poor female composers from the well deserved recognition. Otherwise, how would you explain why African Americans and Canadians like Oscar Peterson, L. Armstrong, D. Ellington, M. Davis and countless others were instantly recognized, despite being black? And of course, female classical interpreters and dancers were famous throughout the 19th century. Too daring to ask? Female composers may simply not be in the league where Mozart, Beethoven and Bach reign supreme?

I find it interesting that your analogy is with "poor female composers" versus African American jazz musicians. Why do you think Fanny Mendelssohn published under her brother's name instead of her own?

I'm not saying that women (like blacks) had the same rights in earlier times, but that quality will ultimately be recognized. Did you check intelligence distributions of men VS women at the extreme ends ? Genius among men vs women? @@garygreen3845

There was racism against jazz too.

@@AngryChristian1 of course, that's exactly the point. Despite discrimination quality prevailed in jazz. Same for classical music.

I doubt an opinion by people who are obviously still living pre 1960 in their mind and education level. Where to start when a man by trying to give an example as counter argument just provides another argument for his opponent...
