    @@jimmybob439 its got a slight whine, one of the gears is a bit rough or missing some hard facing, it didn't make that noise when it was new, but it probably wont effect it for years all the same.

    Did you notice the flat bottom of the furrow? I used to follow behind my grandfather's cub in my bare feet, walking on that flat furrow bottom, on the cool, sandy Michigan soil. One of my all-time best childhood memories.

    Nice Cub! Plows good! My great uncle had one. I drive an IH Cub at my local fairgrounds and it's a nice little tractor. But the engine stalls a lot so I have to be real easy on the clutch, and the throttle jumps back when I try to open her up.

    I have a question: is there a mechanism that keeps one side up when the other side is cutting? Also, how do you start out with this plow because it seems that it doesn't have any down-pressure? I have the lift from an A-151 plow and I found the Allis-Chalmers version of this plow on Craigslist. I'd like to build this plow out of the parts that I have/can get easily for my Farmall A.

    I only have the right hand side plow of this set up. Someone stole the other one and scrapped it years ago. What I'm wondering is, how do you only lower one side of the plow at a time? The chain is hooked to the "claw" and so when the claw lowers, how do you keep one side in the raised position? I hope this question makes sense. Thank you. I hope to use the plow I have this spring.

    Wow, this rig does some nice work. Much faster than I would have thought for a Cub too. Wonder what gear he was running in, 2nd? 3rd? Intro looks great, especially the furrow view.

    In 1948 I bought my father a farmall cub tractor new for 629 dollars. He bought a two way plow for it and in 1950 when he left the farm, the tractor was still like new. He lived between Grand River, Iowa and Leon, Iowa. I am curious of the history of your tractor since I've always wondered happened to it.

    i like these little tractors allot. think i want to buy one with a woods mower and a snow plow. do you guys think this machine is small enough to mow a 2 acre lawn or do you think that it much to large for a fairly small job. i have always wanted a small farm tractor, i love the history behind these machines. i currently have a cub cadet 147 and a 124 that isnt finished yet how is parts availability for these wonderful little compact tractors?

    I spent months trying to figure out what the "Cub whine" actually is. It is in fact the touch control hydraulics that make the whine, but not all cubs with hydraulics do it. Some, like the 61 cub lo boy I used for a while, were so loud you couldn't hear the engine, some whine quietly, and some don't do it at all.

  • @franklinbrown8417

    @franklinbrown8417

    I would agree with your idea. I have been around hydraulic equipment for years and they commonly whine. I thinks it's the sound of the fluid moving thru the ports and valves in the system. And since the Touch Control pump runs off of the engine, not the PTO, it's "live" when the engine is running.

    All Farmall Cubs have straight cut gears in the gear box and also in each wheel from the differential to the each wheel. Unlike most other tractor like fords for example they use helical cut gears which is much quieter. Farmalls has straight cut gears and they make a whine. Its normal there is no way to quiet the whine. Unless you completely redesign the gears to helical cut configuration.
