We had a 400 diesel, didn't buy it new , it was a couple of years old. We had problems with it we just didn't have with John Deere tractors. My dad wanted to like the tractor because it had things that John Deere didn't offer. After several years he traded it for another John Deere. That was our last IH .

Can you perform work in gas mode? My gradnpa had one but i was too small to even think about it back then, now is something I've been wondering

You cannot. There's enough power to drive it in a low gear if necessary but there's no throttle or really enough power to do any actual work. That and the gas tank is only a gallon and lasts about 15 minutes so it certainly isn't practical

If the engine is warm, will it start on diesel only?

I have another video that shows this, but yes. With a strong engine and fuel system/starter, they will start on straight diesel when warm. It is however, much easier on the starter and I would always recommend starting on lower compression
