I'm amazed at the technology you have available at your fingertips, I use to go over to my uncles farm just out of Bendigo Victoria, he had crop of the year for several years 17 bags to the acre he would cut and bale straw after the header my job was to pick the bales then truck them to Stramit industries at Bendigo I was 15 or 16 then great video thanks 😊

I walked behind this machine when it was close to the Corn Stores, searching the stubble for unthrashed heads, almost impossible to find any so really impressed with it's gathering capability and header losses. Also, as the straw was so rotten, it was smashed to pieces by the chopper which will make incorporation so much easier.

Can only speak on whats happening here in North Spain. Last even we went to they basically made it seem like they heavily focusing on tractors and trying to compete with the best. They came to an area where most people have Deere and Fendt tractors and New Holland combines, and didnt mention anything about their combines aside from field view or yield monitors(which is something crazy to brag about in 2023). So everyone is either going to buy Claas or Deere combines in the future. Also service is kind of.... Id take Deere or Fendt service any and every day

Ours looks like a crop that’s been left out until mid September not mid August. It’s all gone very black with some gone down. Plus we’re definitely not harvesting at 15% it’s at 18% to 20% here and raining again today. Nice to see the technology working in the John Deere, amazing what they can do. Fascinating about the J.D.’s but it seems a lot of faff when you already have an operator in the tractor and wouldn’t the combine operator be better off concentrating on what’s feeding into the header rather than controlling the tractor?

We are on our fourth season running an S series JD with a Flex Draper front and machine sync , having previously run a Lexion 770. Wouldn’t have the output of a new Lexion, but with the Flex front, machine sync and we run a chaser bin it’s pretty good, in field efficiency in the 80% + often. Being able to see all the information on my phone is really useful and aids speedy movement of the combine when the front has to come off. All in all we are really pleased with it and now have everything on Greenstar having also sold our Quadtrac on Trimble 18 months ago. Hope the rest of your harvest goes well.

In 2018 we moved to controlled traffic and replaced the SLD with a Farmet Phantom and started to reduce our cultivation depth. 18 months ago we outed all the equipment to go no till on the entire farm area, which is not without it’s challenges, we farm around Cambridge, neighbouring NIAB and Px on heavy calcium and magnesium dominated land. We replaced the Quad with a JD6250 which pulls an 12mAvatar and Tillso Rake and Roll. Did look at the RX initially but realised we just didn’t need it, great bit of kit though and far more flexible than a Quad. One year in and have got away with it so far!!@@WardysWaffleAndrewWard

Another great video thank you Andrew. I wondered why the JD was doing significantly less tonnes/ hour but then I realised that the header was smaller than that on the NH. The cynic in me says that controlling the tractor from the combine is a gimic but people probably said that about tractors replacing horses and I not a complete Luddite. With tracking of the tractor from the combine there's no stopping off for a pie or a pee when carrying now.

Much enjoyed. I remember stuffing an old Claas Matador full of a wet soggy corner - a long time ago. Took me 6 hours to unclog it and I was never as filthy. AI and automation, as impressive and efficient as it is introduces and demands new skills and ultimately could lead to autonomous control of a large part of harvest from the office. Ultimately that efficiency reduces costs, but at what cost.? A reduction in skilled labour and cheaper food placing yet more pressure on Farmers? There seems no doubt that government is only promoting a reduction in arable production through the current financial incentives. A reduction in labour in my humble view is not ideal and manufacturers need to be aware of that. And if Reuben and Tom were not around to assist you while a remote combine blocked up how would that influence your mental health insofar as leaving the office, driving to the remotely operated combine and being unable to share that safely . Autonomous capability is not so far away as we might think just think of military drone and aviation in general. ( Maybe I still have anxiety - I never blocked a combine again though!) The public is being advised subtlety that the drive to feed the nation post war has led to reduced organic material and the decimation of soil health and earthworm activity. I am seeing a disconnect between misinformed public, the sight of ever larger equipment, increasing agricultural deaths and injury and the fact that in a rural area this time of year one is regularly run off the road by 50 to 60 kph, short wearing, young guys often on the phone at 32 tonnes (or more) with perhaps a year or two driving experience. I am not ranting, and one hopes it is the minority but its happening. Like you I suspect I started at 20kph flat out with a 6 / 8 tonne trailer and 78 hp. Now we are talking LGV/ HGV weights and speeds, with no compulsory driver training and that will require intervention at some point. So thanks for using your platform Andrew to show us, mostly the supportive, how it should be done. You show us how farming is a great career to get into these days, and for all you do to support British farming locally and nationally. There is much to be done by the NFU and others but content creators are informing and educating so we are grateful. It would be interesting to show how your entire harvest is used and just how much food and drink and jobs it creates. But not now - you are looking tired. S.

When he was on the combine he woulld say, the trailer man should always be in the right place, i shouldn't have to watch him , start at the back of the trailer and work forward 😅. Great video Andrew, it’s been a struggle keeping up with you this week, thanks for all the footage and you’re time.. Good to see modern technology in use but having the combine controlling the corn cart tractor is that another step towards the loss of skilled tractor drivers.. you get forage harvesters now that have spout cameras to load a trailer but it will have its place no doubt.. especially with skilled operators becoming harder to come by.. but still impressive to see the ways forward in agriculture though 👍

The technology involved today is so advanced from years ago but what is its reliability and can it be overridden to enable a combine to continue work ( safety features not overridden). My other concern is the field mapping and yields are they secure No third party seeing them and being used in grain futures market exploitation. New J D on order I suspect. Fascinating update. Electronics on combines were in their infancy when I left the industry in 2001, they sure have progressed ???. Hopefully the combine will still run in the event of a blank screen scenario?. The header looked very Mac-don, have JD copied it or is it a Mac-don in green?. Unusual to see every other knife finger missing, surprised it cuts as well as it appears. Finally, an old English proverb "He who blocks the combine, also cleans the b-gg-r out"
