Slayer is the launchpad for anyone into extreme metal. I can't thank them enough for essentially changing me as a person. I know that sounds hyperbolic, but most metalheads know what I mean. And a HUGE thanks to Banger for having our song Below Hell as the intro/outro for Lock Horns. We are super honoured. Thanks from everyone in the Death Valley Driver camp.

I remember the first time I heard Slayer. I was 13 yo and Alan "Fluff" Freeman played Raining Blood on the Radio 1 Rock Show and it blew my mind! Fortunately, I recorded the show so I could play it back. The next day I was in the back of parents car listening to that song on my walkman as we drove through the Blackwall Tunnel in London. It was is eerie as f**k, such a great moment that I remember to this day. Decade of Aggression had just come out and my Dad bought me the cassette for Christmas that year, along with a South of Heaven t-shirt. Great days!

I was 11 when South of Heaven came out. Got it the day after. I had already been listening to Hell Awaits and Reign in Blood for maybe a year leading up to that. They scared the hell out of me - which, of course, made me a huge fan right away! But the change up they threw with South of Heaven made me realize just how heavy a band could be. Believe it or not, South of Heaven helped me make sense of Sabbath. It showed the dynamic of Slayer - they could play faster than anybody and then they could restrain themselves to be just as heavy. Though their catalog is uneven after Seasons (which is holy grail), in my opinion, they’ve always had the same elements that make them uniquely Slayer. They will rightfully go down as one of thee best metal bands ever! FUCKIN’ SLAYYYYEEEERRRRR!!!!

I think Divine Intervention doesn’t get much hype cuz it came out when grunge and alternative music was blowing up and it was a bad time for thrash. But it remains one of my favorite Slayer albums. The very last track on that album, Mind Control, is a gem that should’ve been the opening song. For me, it’s right up there with all their thrash classics like Raining Blood and War Ensemble. Anyhow, I still listen to Slayer regularly. The endless energy doesn’t get tiring and it keeps that teenager in me alive. I got into them 25 years ago and I have yet to get sick of their music. I probably never will 🤘🏼

I love the new format guys! Great guests, top-notch special effects, and the audio quality and editing are a huge improvement! Can't wait for more Lock Horns! A few nitpicks: I know people complained about Liisa's "Cowbell from Hell" interrupting the chatter, but I feel the "showrunner" aspect is missing. It keeps the conversation moving, reducing the repetition and awkward pauses. Plus I don't understand the 50-minute limit. I could honestly listen to you guys talk for hours, and I understand you want to keep the episode brief, but as a capsule of Slayer's discography, you got to Divine Intervention, didn't have much to say, then that was it. Nothing after 1994, very disappointing. I guess since this was a Redux show, you wanted to focus more on the positives than the negatives. Still, I would like to see more being touched on in future episodes if you review entire band discographies. And finally, if you aren't going to respond to debates on the live chats, maybe bring in guests with opposing viewpoints to actually "Lock Horns" on the show. Or bring up contentious issues in a band's history or the topic being discussed and argue amongst yourselves. Makes for more entertaining conversations! Great to have you back, djents! \m/

Glad you all are back🤘. Great show. Lombardo was key to Slayer as well as the riffs and songs. First time I saw Slayer was on the Hell Awaits tour. It was the "Black Friday" tour of Slayer, Venom and Exodus at the Aaragon Brawlroom in Chicago. That was a game changer. Exodus with Bayloff, Slayer coming into their own and Venom at their Apex. For Reign in Blood my favorite songs other than Angel and Raining are Alter of Sacrifice, Jesus Saves, Postmortem. .My nick name was "the Slayer dude" because all I wore for two years in high school was all black and my shirt was Slayer Hell Awaits, no other band. Wrote the Slayer ensignia everywhere.

It was 1988 the first time I listened to Slayer. We were at my friend's house listening to metal on his cassette deck and he put on South of Heaven. The intro with the guitar harmonics and the sustained notes on the chorus just blew my mind. The fade into Silent Scream was and still is among the heaviest things ever recorded.

There is a fill in Necrophiliac which is just perfection. It's great on the album, but there is a live recording of Slayer at Ruthie's Inn in 1985 where they play the song. That fill is short but so overwhelmingly kill you.

My favorite SLAY3R song is Spill the Blood!!! Got little a bit of everything that SLAY3R has to offer... Clean evil moody intro with the heavy open chords going into that chucky groovy verse riff and then those single note harmony chorus riff then all out soloing back to clean evil intro ... Just a masterpiece!!! Then Black Magic cause that was one of the first SLAY3R song to play on guitar... Gotta love Hell Awaits just sounds like you are falling into HELL... Got to see them in L.A. their supposed last show and just seem sad we will never seen these guys again... Love that comment that SLAY3R is Satan's lounge music that is so true!!! FUCKIN SLAY3R!!!

Although their farewell is undoubtedly painful, in my humble opinion, we should always remain optimistic that sometime in the future, they might just get together again for a reunion tour. We all know these things happen and throughout the history of metal we've witnessed it take place numerous times.

@@Intermentor The bitch of it is, it's likely we would've been able to forgive a band touring again once or twice, but a couple of bands have literally brought in a decade plus long income stream from stating such. I imagine it sucks for an aged musician to have to pass up a chance at feeling the magic again one last time due to feeling self-conscious about being exploitive.

I never allowed myself to see Slayer and I have been a massive fan for years...I finally got to see them on the repentless tour so missed out on the classic lineup but respect due to Gary Holt and Paul Bostaph who are awesome. There are things that Slayer did to me psychologically that other bands have never done. I have Bipolar anyway and it just flips a switch. Getting into that pit was an experience I'll never forget, felt like I was possessed. Slayer are the greatest and most original sounding of all Thrash bands in my opinion. I can't trust a person that doesn't like Slayer.

Reign In Blood, South Of Heaven and Seasons In The Abyss encapsulate are an unholy trilogy. Diabolus in Musica and God Hates Us All were middle fingers during a low point in American heavy metal.

The Slayer discography is so deep and quality driven that one of their most important songs (second only to Angel of Death IMO) is nearly forgotten until the end, Chemical Warfare. And Divine Intervention is totally underrated, the last classic album for me. One of my first shows was on that tour with Machine Head and Biohazard, Bostaph's kit was a thing of beauty.

I love the band's whole discography and I agree that Divine Intervention is underrated. Chemical Warfare is an influential song and set the stage for death metal. Show No Mercy is Iron Maiden/Judas Priest worship with a tinge of hardcore punk. The band smashed the doors down on the Haunting The Chapel EP and it unleashed a barrage of riffs.

I agree 100% Christ Illusion is my favorite Slayer album since Seasons In The Abyss. It may be due to the fact that Dave Lombardo helped write and played all the drum tracks except for 1 track which I forget atm (this could be drug related, but thats just my excuse for me being lazy). Every track, as you said, is awesome on Christ Illusion which blows my mind why most people do not prefer it over Diablos In Musica or God Hates Us All. Both of those album have amazing, classic Slayer songs on them, BUT in my opinion I dont think they are as complete or as solid as Christ Illusion is as a whole. Peace
