I'd argue that he also fought the Merc dominance. The second driver is very important in a championship charge, and even though they never managed to come out on top, his and Seb's attempts in 2017 and 18 were still a hard fight and Kimi was not insignificant then, even if it was just that one win.

He may only has 1 WDC title, but he has won the most important award in the sport, he won the hearts of the audience through his racing and down-to-earth personality. There was no sugarcoating of his words. He's straightforward and he does not have the patience for hollow questions that is being asked all the time. No activism from him either. He races hard and fair, and that was all everyone wanted from any driver frankly.

When he crashed on to the scene, I knew he was something special. Probably one of the greatest natural talents ever seen in the sport. In a better car he could have easily won three, four WDC. Later on he just coasted on his natural ability. The reason he could stay in the sport for so long is probably because he didn't really care much about it but always seamed to somehow do the job that was required from him.

Ferrari were mad to let you go in 2009 and long may they remember you as their last WDC.! despite your gracious best wishes to them. Your feel for the tyres at Lotus was exceptional to put the team where it was. You have been much maligned by certain figures in the press (we see & hear all their lies & snide remarks you ignore) and despite this your fans will never forget you, because you are not only an exceptional & fair racer, but an honest & genuine person. My heart is bleeding after obtained information, that Kimi is ending his career. Such an outstanding driver! I will never forget three key moments in his career. Firstly, his DNF in Monaco in 2006, when he went straight to his friends boat ("Just One More Toy"). Secondly, Baku 2017 ("Hey, gloves and steering wheel! Tell somebody to give it to me! Move on!"). Thirdly, his last win in United States on 21st of October 2018. I was watching this Grand Prix together with my father (86 y.o.). We've been crying at that time! Kiitos koko sydämestäni, Kimi, mahdollisuudesta seurata ilmiömäistä uraasi Formula 1:ssä. Kiitos!

@@piuthemagicman Paljon kiitoksia! ♥️♥️♥️, both from Poland and Switzerland.

So many emotions you brought me Kimi, I will never forget your 2005 and 2007 championships it was pure masterclass, sadly I will never be able to watch you live in F1 but I followed the most part of all your Grand Prix and even kept in touch with your great 2 seasons in Rally and NASCAR. When he says I wouldn't change a single thing in my F1 career even championship, that statement says it all, he is retiring in peace hanging his boot with head held high satisfied with all he has achieved. Even in today's days when I think about my teenage memories when I fell in love with F1, I still wish that KR had a more reliable car with Mclaren, then he would have been retiring with more championships than 1. But he says he wouldn't change a thing! Farewell KR, not sure without KR joining the grid next season I am following F1 for a while, of course, the sport is larger than any sportsman!! but unable to imagine F1 even without KR.
