Nope. This is only temporary. Countries who give in will be rewarded. They must only suffer the people. Not the gov. All of the leaders are financially well off and need not worry. Any time you have government driving technology instead of the market, entrepreneurs, and inventors, it is bound to fail. Politicians aren't qualified to make these critical decisions about the nature of the climate and the proper remedies. They jump on board every whim, wherever the wind is blowing, until the market proves that the idea was (typically) wrong and counterproductive. If they would only get out of the way and let those who can lead, lead. It seems as if the qualifications for any high government office are stupidity and extreme narcissism.

They are full of groupthink morons only worried about the bottom line and they treat their talent as an expendable resource that they can exploit and then replace at any time. If you have the solution to that, I'd like to hear it. But, I'll still put my faith in the private sector over government. At least money is a driving factor that can be used to bring about innovation. Government, on the other hand, is only about accumulating power.

Absolutely. It is precisely because companies are concerned about next years bottom line that they drive innovation and production. There are consequences for failure for those who run companies. Politicians, on the other hand, rarely face consequences for their actions, and do not feel the pain of their policies as they are all rich elites. They rarely know anything about the industries they regulate or how they work, let alone know anything about economies and how to keep societies running.

I hope people in US and Canada start paying attention to the disaster of Net Zero policies in Europe and Australia.

@Jesus H Christ Increased energy cost is a no brainer so I won’t explain that. Increased living cost is because energy cost more, therefor production, import, export and delivery are more expensive. This ultimately leads to increased prices of goods to pay for the expenses and also aside from debt plays the biggest role in causing inflation. Interest rate increases is the governments attempt to lower the inflation they artificially created, by paying off some debt to increase purchasing power. Really if we simply stopped the green deal, energy and cost of supply chain/delivery would go down, thereby driving overall prices (inflation) down. But instead the government is sacrificing the wealth and livelihood of the nation. The Government is forcing a transition to an energy source that we aren’t even close to ready for. The world as you can see, clearly depends on oil. All the government did was decrease supply without decreasing demand, thereby causing inflation. Energy is needed for everything. When energy is expensive, everything becomes more expensive. If the government cared about climate change, they would decrease demand first and then decrease supply. Most people would call this a no brainer. It’s almost as if the government intentionally did this to benefit the lobbyists.

EU/UK have shut down fossil fuels , failed to invest in more fossil fuels and have no energy independence as a result of this and the failure of wind and solar to replace reliable fossil fuels. Just a little fact, we Brits did not decide to go green. We did not vote for it and we have been deceived by conservatives governing like liberals. Good riddance to Boris, all we can now do is hope Truss means what she says. We loathe civil unrest, but it is in the air.

Green energy should be used to supplement fossil fuels not replace. Green energy is not advanced enough to completly replace.

So true. It looks like solar will get there first. The price keeps dropping as production techniques improve. But here's the thing. The better solar power gets, the less sense it makes to invest in wind turbines. Highlander rules apply. There can be only one. Just like LCD televisions vs. OLED sets. The OLED makes for a much better picture, but as soon as people want them and the price drops, there is renewed pressure to improve LCD tv's. Now Samsung has Crystal LED, QLED, and Neo QLED tv's (still using LCD tech). They keep getting better, while still cheaper than OLED's. All the money goes to the LCD market, while only very rich people spend the extra for OLED. It looks like OLED will never replace LCD. And if solar is always better than wind turbines, then wind turbines will never improve enough to be better. They're aiming for a moving target, and solar power is making all the profits, meaning more R&D money, better engineers, etc. This is what it looks like when the market decides.

agree. lithium batteries are not good for environment, what is environmental cost of making them. wind turbines and solar panels. I think it was volvo that admitted petrol and diesel cars are far greener than electric ones which are buggered if the grid goes down or you need a mortgage to replace the batteries!!!!

Diesel generators only idle, they do not have to increase and decrease in speed like a car engine meaning that they don't have to increase revs or lose energy breaking. This means that even charging an electric vehicle on a diesel generator, you are only using a small fraction of fuel as you would be in a car. The principle has actually been used on diesel electric trains for many decades. So yes that would still be more economical and environmentally friendly than using an internal combustion vehicle.

Look what just happened in Sri Lanka. Sounds like the UK is next on the list.

Back to UK politics however due to the first past the post system in the UK and party funding rules it makes it almost impossible for any new parties to start. Party donors now have to pay inheritence tax when donating funds to political parties. It's bonkers.
