Couple of hundred far- right extremists among 99900 citizens doesn’t make this march an extremist gathering. Of course it’s mostly them who make the news. Which is sad and disappointing, and says only about the state of so-called journalism. Fortunately, I was privileged to take part in this march and to witness it all first hand.

However, to call the event itself "Far Right" is CRAZY. They are a small minority. By playing them up they are playing into their hands, and the hands of Putin. It is all disgusting. A responsible report would simply say "Millions celebrate Polish Independence Day". If they want to get into the fact that the far-right was there and was visible they would have to do the research necessary to cover that properly. As it is this appears like a report taken directly from RT!

I'm on the left but it seems way to easy to label so much outrage as "far right". If people don't embrace the rainbow then apparently they are far right as well.

And, yet again it is called a far-right independence day march. Why? Ignorance? Polish bashing? Poles commemorate their regaining independence in 1918 after decades of being partitioned. This false meme of calling everything in Poland 'far-right' or 'ultra-nationalism' is vomit-inducing. Perhaps one day people will respect the Poles for who they are and even learn a little about their history.

How is the celebration of national independence day a 'far-right' event? The vast majority of people taking a part in the march were normal common people that do not belong to any political orgnaization. As for personal views- celebrating during this day is not reserved for one, state-designated range of political views. Anyone could, can, and will be able to join. Police reported there were no serious incidents, nothing worth mentioning.

Why "far-right"? ... or for "far-left", - "center" is "far-right"!:)) Please do not label people just for their opinion and peaceful actions! :)) Respect for polish people!

I see patriots who celebrate their freedom

So people uniting on one day in the year to celebrate Independence Day is far right so therefore let me apply the same logic to Independence Day in the USA,remembrance day in England and the Victory parade in Russia. Poland suffered so many wars, 123 years when the country ceased to exist, the worst humanitarian crisis 1939-1945, then 45 long years of Soviet occupation… you are not nationalistic when celebrating Independence Day, you simple show respect to past generations who lost their lives fighting for our freedom! 🇵🇱🇵🇱🇵🇱

Today is Remembrance Day, Polish Independence Day, and the day of a great victory in Ukraine. By all rights we should be celebrating a very good day for democracy! But, you have somewhat tarnished this day for me. Look, I'm a Pole, and I lean a bit "left", like many other Poles, but unlike many other Poles. This news report is embarrassing, most especially for it's authors. Do they have any idea what they are talking about. Polish independence was won when WWI ended (aka Remembrance Day). It's Independence Day for *ALL* Poles. When Independence was won the Polish Socialist Party just happened to be the most popular political party and formed the first government, but that doesn't make this a socialist holiday! When it was originally celebrated it was also celebrated by millions of Polish citizens who would be characterized as ethnic Jews, Ukrainians, Belarusians, Germans and others. Poland was not only the most multicultural country in Europe at the time, it was much more so than Canada, and even more so than the US. In fact, that independence was won thanks to volunteers from many countries and with the help of those countries. At Niagara-on-the-Lake there is a cemetery that is officially Polish sovereign land for it is the site where some of those volunteers died of Spanish Flu while training to fight for Polish independence. Canada trained over 21,000 Polish volunteers at that camp. Jews formed the single largest ethnic group that volunteered to fight for Poland's independence (larger than all other ethnic groups combined). Those who fought to win that independence would be horrified by this characterization. Now imagine seeing a report that said the "Far-right Canada Day celebrated on July 1st". Yes, you may see some "Truckers" with confederate flags at your Canada day for the next few years but that doesn't change what the day represents. Similarly in Poland, the far-right does exist, it was largely invisible until just over a decade ago. It then started becoming more and more visible, particularly on such occasions, but they are still a *very* small minority. Ironically, some of these people have connections with North America, Germany and the UK, where they began to make a connection to right-wing politics (hence Confederate flags, etc). The current government in Poland, lead by the PiS party is quite right-wing. It is not fascistic, it is more like the GOP in the US before the Trump take-over. It has fascistic elements within it, but they haven't taken over yet. This party is still a minority, but they are larger than any other single party in Poland. That is the problem we face, just like the one you would face if your Conservative Party was taken over by its populist wing, and the other parties divided up the opposition votes between themselves. It is important to recognize how the far-right and ultra-nationalists became a significant force in Poland. It was the crimes committed together and then separately by the Nazis and the Soviets when they started WWII by invading Poland that resulted in a country that was largely mono-ethnic. This is the result of the Holocaust during the war. After the war this was completed by the movement of borders, and the expulsion of millions of former citizens by the Soviets. The Soviets did this on purpose, to drive a wedge between all these ethnic groups. They feared nothing more than these ethnic groups coming together. This is what most horrifies me. To present Independence Day now as a far-right, ethnic, nationalistic event represents a victory of Hitler and Stalin. Of more immediate concern is that this is precisely what Putin is encouraging. Putin helps fund and support the far-right in Poland, just as it does throughout democracies around the world (including the US and Canada). You may not be aware of this (but you SHOULD be), Putin and his representatives have been loudly claiming that Poland is a fascist country, "just like Ukraine", and SHOULD be invaded, or even bombed off the planet. Remember, not only is this the same excuse they used to invade Ukraine, they were the ones funding and supporting the small fascist groups that exist in Ukraine. It is a cruel crime against history for the Russians, who controlled the Soviet government that planed and started the war as allies of the Nazis to now get to decide that it was the Ukrainians, a subjugated part of the Soviet Union, that were the "real collaborators". Putin's regime calls the West decadent (read as tolerates LGBTQ and human rights in general), fascistic and satanist. Please, don't support that propaganda. Also, please don't let your Canada Day be abused. If the PiS party, which currently has strong control of the media in Poland, is not restrained, and does not keep it's more radical elements under control, you will be faced with millions of Poles watching similar reports of that "Far-right Canada Day celebration".

Honestly, the Poles will not be brothers to either the Ukrainians or the Russians. Throughout history, the Poles have had good relations only with the Slovaks and Belarusians, and between the Ukrainians, other than temporary cooperation, it is unlikely that anything will be better
