When your country is as socialist as France then even the U.K. Labour Party under Blair would be right wing. It’s not wrong to use a localised scale for your countries own political spectrum because why would you base it on, say, americas definitions. It would make no sense. That’s why the labels left and right wing make no sense since the popularity of the internet has grown as now people are exposed to so many different definitions of political positions. Privatising public services is far right for many European countries but is centre for many more.

Basically you have the Left (L), Center (C) , Right (R) , and Farther Right (FR) . The results were L > C > R > FR. However, the FR + R > L and if anything, split the votes to help L & C. The Coalition will be C + R + L. However, only some parties of the left will be included likely

A lot of things declared “far-right” by the media are the centrist consensus e.g. controlled immigration. Her economic protectionism policies are quite centre-right. She also supports a strong welfare state - hardly far-right, more centrist. She’s opposed to austerity - again not far right. She advocates stronger worker’s rights and job security - a traditional left-leaning policy. She also supports increased state intervention in the economy and nationalisation - very socialist and left-leaning policies. Like I said centre-right. The Guardian is the news equivalent of brain rot.

France embraces secularism, promoting a peaceful and inclusive community. This peaceful community has the potential to change the religious landscape, similar to what occurred in Lebanon in the 1990s.

Well Reform UK got 4.1M votes and only got 4 seats. So if those votes are spread thinly, I guess it doesn't mean that much. So the far right don't get the results they want. And just like in the UK, the progressive vote works out well, in our case 72 seats for the Liberal Democrats with 3.5M votes, but those were probably well concentrated votes. I don't know how different the French system is. But it is quite amazing. Labour's 412 seats came from 9.7M votes and the Tory's got 121 seats from 6.8M votes.

But its not just the 'far left'- the Republican Front is a decades long (since 1955) pact which combines centrist and left-wing political parties- in this case Macron's centrist Ensemble and the centre-left to fairly far-left groups- in order to keep out the far right- in this case Le Pen's National Rally. While Le Pen received 37.3% of the vote, the two Republican Front parties received a combined 49.2% of the vote (these numbers are from the NY Times article 'How the French National Election Results Unfolded). This is clearly a much higher proportion, especially in a democracy such as France where many smaller parties and candidates exist, meaning that the will of the French people as a whole can be taken as anti Le Pen. The 'far left' won because they are preferred by the majority of French people to Le Pen's far right.

Progressive here refers to both the centrist and leftwing party supporters who had joined campaigns against the far-right party. The reason far-right is said is to avoid confusion because France has a 4th party that is rightwing but more moderate so this avoids the confusion between the two parties. I hope this helps
