People are craving for more states because the states are “centers of consumption “ rather than “centers of production “. Proponents are seeking to carve out spheres of influence where they could become in positions that could make it easier for them to achieve “state capture “ and appropriate to themselves the resources of their hapless and helpless citizens with impunity without having to contend with some other powerful persons outside of their new fiefdoms.

See there’s nothing wrong with having the 1963/64 Constitution amended from 4 Regions to 36 States. Forget 8 regions/states. Let them call for a REFERENDUM for or against the previous “Federal Constitution” of 1963/64. If the result is positive, then the amendments will be subjected to debate and approved. Simple, short and straight forward.

We can't just be comparing the Nigeria states with other sane countries that are serious minded, respect the rule of law and are progressive in nature, when we say some states are not viable it is not because they are lacking in natural or human resources nor do they not have the capacity to be viable, those states are not viable simply because most of these governors are irredeemably corrupt, lazy and don't want to think outside the box to generate revenue but simply rely on the FG monthly allocations to manage the state, the allocations which they will eventually embezzle and leave the state underdeveloped, a typical example was the case of Kogi State former governor, now you are talking about Swiss, bro you are going too far, come closer home, now look at Ghana, Rewanda, Kenya and even S/Africa,are they not better than Nigeria now, you see, our problem in this country is leadership failure

Please, it is high time you Igbos should stop these your unnecessary agitations? Yes the Igbos are marginalised immediately after the civil war, but don’t also forget that the Igbos were in charge of Nigeria before the civil war. This idea of Igbos trying to create a Biafra Country and adding non Igbos into the equation without their consent will create the same abnormality of marginalisation the Igbos are complaining about in Nigeria. For example, Ikwerres of Port Harcourt elders had made it clear that they are not Igbos because the acestors are Benins lead by the Benin warrior called Akakaka. Also, the Anambra people said they are came from Benin as started by the Obi of Onitsha who is a direct Son of the Oba of Benin who ancestor was lead by Chima a Benin warrior. So you can see that because people speak the Igbo language does not make them Igbos? For example, there are Igbo speakers in everywhere in Nigeria-Edo, Lagos, Kogi, Benue, Rivers etc. For the fact that they speak the Ibo language doesn’t make them Igbos, because they know their ancestry and where they are from and certainly not from Igbo land? Thanks

You are too smart for yourself. You confidently gathered all Yorubas in SW, Kwara and kogi states into one region while you failed to include the Igbos in SE, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Benue, kogi and Delta States into one region. Your goal is to make the Igbos politically insignificant. This convinces me that the Yorubas hate the Igbos absolutely. With your mind set which is the same with the current administration, we the Igbos demand for the restoration of the defunct Republic of Biafra. The Igbo nation extends beyond the current South East.

Some of you crying over the map, how about when they talk about the 6 geo political zone, you don't argue about it. I reside in Canada and I think most Nigeria should read about the formation of Canada as a federal state. Canada is the second largest country in the world and the only have 13 region, just three of the region covers one third of the country but also with less population.2 off the region is actually the financial power house of the country. So it's not how big a region is, it is your capacity to turn your region into productive and that's where I believe the ss and se have advantages over the rest region. Believe me no matter how we divide it there will still be issues. Let's start thinking of new Nigeria with positive minds instead of the negative mind that Nigeria will not work.

Your plan is to unite all Yoruba people into one region while dividing the Igbo's the more by dividing them into 4 different regions. You want to take some part of Imo and join the south south, take the Anioma Igbo's into one other region, to continue keeping the Igbo's in Kogi and Benue in the middle belt while you bring all Yoruba's into one region including those from Kwara and Kogi. We Igbo's are not fools ok, all Igbo's must be in one region. Ohanaeze and all Igbo leaders must say No to this one sided bill. Who are you to be the one to say how Nigeria Should be divided? With due respect, I disagree with Dr. Abayomi's assertion that the colonial overlord forced the independence constitution down the throat of the founding fathers. The major problem that continues to plague the country is the continous retention of the provisions of the unification decree that took away the powers of the federating units and handed it to the centre in all subsequent constitutions. The independence and republican constitutions provided for a true federalism by giving each region powers to explore and exploit the resources in their domains. They are to pay an agreed % to the centre. This worked well until weaknesses on the part of the politicians led to the army take over. If we want this nation to grow and prosper, this albatross must be removed. The big question is "who will bell this wild cat?" Will those currently benefitting from the present arrangement allow for this important change? Nigeria needs someone in the mould of Mikhail Goberchev.

That is why the bill has been sent to the law makers to allow representatives of areas with concerns ventilate their concerns and lobby for correction. To my understanding, it's only when majority agree that the bill can become law. Let those with concerns support the majority so that the majority can support them to alleviate their concerns.

This bill from the pit of hell must be rejected by all Igbos around the world. The architect of this bill is full of deceit and mischief. It is evident for all to see by looking closely at how they intend to scatter Igbo land between the South East and South, even going further to carve out the gas rich zone in Imo state and hand it over to the South for easy pillaging. Meanwhile in the South West all Yorubas are united under one front. The bill is dead on arrival.

Nigeria should strive to be a constitutional republic. Equal representation of all the states, hence, people. The government must be divided into 3 parts; executive, legislative, and judiciary. This will ensure that no group or individual has too much power. States should be reduced to groups with similar interests and identity. We don't need 100 Supreme Court judges or too many senators or Legislators. This will save the federal government lots of money. Etc, etc.

The current Constitution is of no civil values at all. It is purely military by every shred of the fabrics I will argue and which in my mind is utterly wrong in the sense that we are no longer in the military Era. The Constitution should have been immediately changed soon as the Military Regime ended to be in compliance with the laid down principles of Civilian Administration. We have to possess such Constitution which will gesture glaringly our Democratic ideology , Views and of course opinions in a civil manner at all times.. New Constitution in its true gesture should be such that will disallow random Coup d 'e tat which has always taken our Country 100 steps backward. To do that we have to give Power back to the Obas as it is done in the UK or Great Britain. By this way we will be able to effectively subjugate the Coup d ' e tat Aspirants once and for all.

I dont have problem Kwara or any speaking Yoruba joining SW, but the problem is the hypocrisy in the intention of the bill against SE. Please read the bill before you response and answer one question if is the other way round whether the SW will accept it. Why keep fightingpeople who are not fighting. ?

He gathered all Yoruba -speaking communities Lagos, SW, Kwara and Kogi states into SW region while he failed to combine the Igbo -speaking communities in Delta, Edo, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Benue and Kogi states with their brethren in the SE. Your petty trick of trying to render the Igbo nation as insignificant in the political system is noticed. Your gerrymandering will not work. A hypocrite is one who calls for unity and does the opposite.

With due respect, Dr Abayomi is communicating his points poorly. I don't know if its because he has so much to say on the issue but he is all over the place. For me, i doubt if Nigeria as its currently constituted can ever work with its peoples always at each others throats. Nigeria should back to regional/confederation setting.. ND oil should be be mostly ND's, the others should go look under their grounds for their own "oil".

@@slaw7263I am not in support of any bill that purports to divi up Nigeria without the consent of the people. In the few interviews I have seen of the Dr.,. He has said his writings are suggestion but the altimate decisions will be made by the peoples of each region A lot of Kwara leaders for instance have said they are not yorubas for fear of being subsumed by a larger group same with Lagos indigenous peoples
