Fantasy portrait in soft pastel ✨my painting process
Hi everyone! I wanted to explain today a bit of my process when I’m painting with soft pastels 😊 I’ve been asked a lot about this so I hope it helps. It’s not very different from my oil pastel method but I think it can be useful to see anyway. Thanks for the support! ❤️
I’m using pastel pencils (several brands) and Rembrandt pastels on Pastelmat.

Yolanda this blows me away. I watched your oil pastel painting of a blonde girl earlier on grey paper and that was beautiful and now watching you paint this with soft pastels. I'm speechless. The skin on the girl's face in this painting is so angelic, so pure and flawless. It's the skin most women dream of having. Just when I think I' ve seen it all you come up with this beautiful number!. This is so pretty. The colours are so soft. It's like a glimpse into heaven. DON'T EVER give up on your art. You are so gifted. I have learned so much from you. You Tube has given me a whole new lease of life because I love art. And I' ve learned so much about different mediums that before I got into KZread didn't know existed. And I LOVE IT. I'm like a child in a sweet shop buying up everything and trying them at all at home but was a bit shy of these pastels both oils and soft pastels. I was a bit like a fish out of water with these but seeing you do masterpieces like this. I think it's time I made a right good splash and tear into it. 😂😂. Thank you so much. God bless you and I hope you have great success with these you deserve it. Love Susan ❤❤❤❤👍🙏🙏🙏🎨❤🌹🇮🇪💕

I love your comments, Susan! Thank you so much 🥰❤️❤️ I think soft pastels are amazing to paint children and angelic or almost ethereal portraits: the are so nice and soft, and applied in thin layers you can create very subtle hue variations ❤️ I just love them and I wish I could use them more often. Thanks a lot for taking the time to write 😊 I hope you enjoy your paints!! Have a nice day 🌸
If I didn’t hate the dust and getting my fingers dirty so much I would probably do soft pastel stuff, but I love to see other people work with it

I honestly don’t get dust almost anywhere other than my hands and right below my easel 🥲 I can’t do it more often because of the invisible dust particles floating in the air that give me issues, otherwise it’s possible that I would paint exclusively in soft pastel. It’s just lovely ❤️

Same here...but i do by keeping the pastel paper ( sanded paper) flat.that helps

Me encanta!

@YolandaBlazquez
Muchas gracias, Maria!
AMAZING!!! Your work inspires me! Thank you so much for sharing! ❤❤❤

Nice portrait. I like your work, what do you think about the paintings of Zdzisław Beksiński or Boris Vallejos? I'm curious :)
@YolandaBlazquez

Thank you! I know Boris Vallejo for his fantasy paintings, they are very impressive but I’ll check out Zdzisław Beksiński 🙂
Gracias
@YolandaBlazquez
hello, what kind of tracing paper do you use. thank you
@YolandaBlazquez
None, I use a graphite pencil on the back of the paper and then trace over it.
Great tutorial. I have a question though. 3:50 When you're talking about blending, you say l to do that smoothly, I need to have enough paint on the paper.“ sorry I'm confused. Where is paint involved?
@YolandaBlazquez
Thank you 😊 by paint I mean pigment/pastel, if I don’t apply enough of it it’s not possible to blend smoothly. The grain of the paper has to be covered first but thinly, otherwise applying many layers afterwards it would be difficult. I hope I explained myself well but let me know, sorry for the confusion.
God this is wonderful! I admire your painting... Please tell me what kind of pastel is it, oil or dry? And can you please tell me the brand of pencils you combined with pastels?❤❤❤

Thank you! ❤ These are soft (dry) pastels with pastel pencils from several brands (Carbothello, Pitt, Caran d’Ache, Derwent). I’m working on a video showing my favorite art supplies soon so maybe that one will help 😊

@@YolandaBlazquez Wow thank you so much for the quick response! I'll be looking forward to the video where you talk about it! 🥰💕💕💕This will help me a lot because now the market is overflowing with materials and it is very difficult to find the right one, and pastels and pastel pencils are now expensive and I need to try not to make a mistake with the choice. But at a minimum, I am sure that the dry pastel and pastel pencils that you use are perfectly combined with each other!
