Fantastic Fishing Day in the Worst Weather - Winter Coastal Fly Fishing

Coastal fly fishing on Gotland. With temperatures just above freezing, strong wind and snowfall the hopes of catching fish were low considering recent days didn't lead to any fish in the net. Had motivation enogh to go out anyway since my friend Simon came to visit and fish with me.

    As an ecologist, I am proud to see you fight invasive species like a guardian of the trout! Especially considering that I know there is a great desire for sea running rainbow trout among many anglers. I am currently reading existing scientific literature for my thesis project and even though population density is a multifactorial process, it is not possible to ignore the fact that invasive species are speeding up a negative curve for our native trout. You are a very important fisherman Rainbow Robert, keep up the harvest 😤!

    Weather conditions that i love. I like trying to fish the swiss lake trout under à pale Grey sky like on your vidéo. Unfortunately missed for the moment, this fish is very hard to catch from the shore. I hope to come to gottland and try the seatrout one time in my life. Thanks for this cool video

    On the eastern coast (Estonia) we occasionally get them rainbows as well stably, probably escapees from Aland fish cages I guess. Here we farm them in Saaremaa for only three years and they've been a constant by catch earlier. Anyway superb catch, good you kept them, makes one wonder how many rainbows are actually cruising along the coast of the Baltic. Cheers!

    Quick question; Do you have a personal limit for water temperature? Its often advised to not fish water below 4°C but I dont have the luxury to choose warmer waters atm, its around 1-2°C all over here (Sjælland, DK). I previously had fine catches in close to freezing water, but this year is very difficult, nothing seems to be lurking around allng the coastline, even when sun is out. Would you just stay home or?

    Thanks, Calvin. There was a difference in taste to rainbows from put & take lakes. We don't have native or natural populations in streams in Sweden so I can't answer. Caught some in Chile, but I released them.

    @@FlyFishingbyRobert definetely, in a week and a half they were all they up to Frederikshavn on the other side of Denmark, and they went all the ways. They escaped not far from the bridge that connects Sjælland with Fyn, and from there they went both north and south of the bridge, and they went towards jylland all the way up to Skagen area which is far away, and people caught them there in the river system already just little over a week after they escpaped, they also went towards the 2 fjords, and up towards Helsingor. And the size you caught matches quite well between 2.5-4 kg

    @@is94227 No way. Look at the tailes. No chance the fish from Musholm have developed such tailes already. And the fish from Musholm are ugly pellet bombs. Not like the ones caught by Robert.

    Robert do you ever hook into regular salt only species? (not knowing what might be about in the Gotland waters)

  • @FlyFishingbyRobert

    @FlyFishingbyRobert

    Жыл бұрын

    The Baltic sea is a brackish ocean so most pure saltwater species don't exist here. But some have evolved to do so, like herring and cod. But unfortunately, they are heavily overfished. Garfish spawn here in early summer, but that would be about it. There are more freshwater species instead.
