Fantastic cheap 4" swivel Accu-lock machine vice from Vevor

Ғылым және технология

I have a lathe/mill setup but did not have a good, accurate machine vice to mount onto the lathe's cross-slide to enable clamping of material when using the mill. Due to this the mill was getting little use. After looking around I found an on-line company call Vevor. I've never heard of them but the stock they keep is tremendous and they had just what I was looking for namely a 4" vice, the Acc-lock machine vice. It has a removable swivel base which I was also looking for.
Any bigger than 4" and it would have over whelmed the lathe!
It cost less than £60 with free UK delivery and arrived a few days after I had ordered it. Very happy!
On inspection, using my very rudimentary measuring kit I can happily report for the cost it is a fantastic vice. It's not a Kurt but neither was the price tag. With a little care I think this vice will out last me!

Excellent review; I especially enjoyed the tear-down. You saved me the trouble! I purchased the exact same 4-inch model. Very impressed with the build quality with a single exception: One of the webs from the swivel-base casting was not removed when manufactured. Consequently the vise can't be rotated a full 360°. This can be remedied, but I'm surprised it slipped by the manufacturer.

Thanks for that 👍🏽 I think the vice is really good value for money and just great for my uses. If I was a profession workshop maybe a better quality brand would be applicable but this one Is fine. Thanks again for watching 👍🏽

Same vises imported here, At 1/10th the cost of the original Kurt they are not a bad buy. I use a 3" on a small drill press, and an 8" model on a large radial drill press. They tend to have more flex than the Kurt by placing an indicator behind the fixed jaw, but are good enough for most work. Good video!

I am new to milling..... and at 14:10 I was wondering what those two little pieces did ... I learned something to day and I am over 70. I got the 3" vise like your with base too.... at first use, I stripped out the bolts that hold on the fix jaw.... I am now checking with company what to do... I have plans to just fix it myself... Better... buy drilling and taping bolts to go all way thru fixed jaw, and maybe add 2 more bolts while I am there.... Hey, Great Video ... I learned somthing. !!

Morning Paul, thanks for your comments. The 2 pieces of metal I believe are for fixing to the underside of the Vice for when you are attaching it to a lathe or mill. There are not used for fixing but to act as a guide (an anti rotation feature) for the vice when sitting on the cross slide or mill bed and act as location guides. My lathe has similar pieces on the top cross slide. Take a look at kzread.info/dash/bejne/pICo09xweKyWe84.html here you can see a tapped holes in my new vice. This is where they will attach. They may be too big for my application so I may need to make some if required but with them fitted well there will be no way the vice can twist under load. It will of course be bolted down as well! Thanks for watching and I'm pleased the video was useful and good luck with fixing yours👍🏽

14:30 there is adjustment underneath that vice to mitigate the jaw lift somewhat. It can take a bit of fettling either filing or adding shims to improve it. I’ve just bought the 4” vice and for the money it’s pretty impressive. Precision Mathews sell a visually similar vice for $400.

Hi SJV, thanks for your comments. Yes on the older vice there are a couple of cap headed bolts that I can tighten; the tighter they are, the less lift but the harder it is to move so there is a compromise. With my new vice it has the 1/2 ball setup which is great once its bedded in. Thanks for watching 👍🏽

I like my Kurt D40, DX4, D675, and DX6. The 4" cost more than the 6". I got the D675 used and cheap, I bought the others new. Yes, it is an expensive hobby...

It would be interesting to do a scan across the 'surface plate' with the indicator set out rigidly in front of the support. If it is flat then the dial indicator needle should not move. Without doing that we do not know which is curved by how much.

Hi Bob, I did something off camera to check how good the ceramic chopping board was, I should have done that for the video! From memory to board wasn't too bad but did run off across it's two sides a tad, by how much I'm afraid escapes me now. Thanks for the comments and for watching 👍🏽

How did you attach the base

  • @MikeMakesIt

    @MikeMakesIt

    2 жыл бұрын

Hi Rick. The vice it self comes ready assembled to the swivel base which can be bolted to a lathe or mill table but you need to supply your own Tee bolts for that, none are supplied I'm afraid. The vice can be removed from the swivel base and used stand alone or can be bolted down like described above. Thanks for watching 👍🏽

@@MikeMakesIt I think those are a pair of t-bolts shown at 14:12. Use them to attach the vise directly to the t-slots on your machine, or attach the swivel base to the t-slots on the machine and then the vise to the swivel base. These are in addition to a second pair of t-bolts (included) which attaches the vise to the swivel base.
