FANFARE - Paul Fey plays the Organ in SANTANYI (Spain) using the SPANISH TRUMPETS - Jordi Bosch
Музыка
Some weeks ago I've had the wonderful opportunity to play the incredible Jordi Bosch Organ of the Església de Sant Andreu in Santanyí (Spain). This spanish instrument took me some time to get used to - especially the pedal-board which you will see in a later video. This organ features absolutely wonderful voices though and was worth all the effort!!
I hope you will enjoy this recording of the Fanfare by Antonio Soler (1729-1783) using the Spanish Trumpets of this Organ in Santanyí!

I want my funeral here, and this piece played. That reed on the lower manual is absolutely adorable.
What a wonderfully showy piece for such a gloriously overblown instrument. Draw stops like doorknobs, clackiest keys ever and it looks like something from a Disney film. Marvellous

I keep coming back. Just brilliant. Paul understands the music and the organ, and the two have NEVER sounded better. EP Biggs did the same on a record my sister gave me...OMG ...40 years ago, and back then I was smitten by Spanish organs. Paul is DA MAN!!!

OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!
Thanks Paul for that genuinely unique experience for me of hearing Fanfare by Soler on an organ built for this work. I've visited many ancient Spanish churches and looked at the ranks of trumpets but sadly they have always been silent when I was there. Well played. The bass in the pedal line sounded like a drum beat. Chapeau.

Thank you so much!! It’s literally is a stunning experience hearing these in real life! Absolutely incredible, and that Pedal Bombarde shakes the whole church 😀🎵
I would love to hear this in persona! Such a mighty instrument! Stunning! 😉
Grandios Paul. Wenn die Pedale einsetzen,wie freundlicher Donner von Oben. Power-Akkustik vom Feinsten
The Spanish Trumpets may be the headline on this vid but the THING about this organ is that FANSTASTIC Bombarde... it's amazing in good headphones, I can't WAIT to take the ferry out there and hear it in person!
When I see your smile at the end, it must have been a lot of fun to play such an amazing organ! Again the same taste... Even the Rotterdam chamades can't match these real Spanish trumpets! Wonderful! Outstanding performance, dear Paul, a great pleasure to listen to 😃👌👌👌

There is no doubt that these Spanish Baroque instruments really get one going -you can see 16 th -17th century ladies and gentlemen in gorgeous costumes dancing in pomp - wonderful that you were given the chance to play this amazing instrument - your versatility continues to amaze us Paul.

Ah...there is no dancing in a Catholic Church especially in Spain when this was written.
@Alvar2001
2 ай бұрын
@@johnpitchlynn9341 Theres is not "specially in Spain" when talking about catholicism, last thing spaniards wanted centuries ago is that Catholic Church was "spanish" but universal, so a catholic church in Manila it was the same that a catholic church in Milano 300 years ago, that was the purpose. That said, spaniards had their preferences in daily life, dancing was one of them besides being very catholics, and in fact they danced inside churches in special days century after century as much that in fact Carlos III forbade dacing inside the churches because of decorum because spaniards danced very much very often. Padre Antonio Soler was music profesor of infante Gabriel, son of Carlos III.

@@Alvar2001 Ah...excuse me...I am a life long Catholic...so don't try to tell me about Church History...which you get wrong. So let us review. The so-called Universal Church is a myth...because every catholic country turned and twisted church dogma to fit its own biases and purposes. And no one danced in Catholic Churches as a rule...in any country including Spain. And the only dancing in Spain in a Catholic Church courtyard...was the dance of those poor souls in a death dance in the throws of being burned at the stake or hung for being a heretic. So please the only thing universal about the Catholic church was LATIN!!! Oh...and don't forget indulgences, the French Popes, the Spanish Inquisition 1478 through 1834, land craps etc. All against the true meaning of Christianity.
@johnpitchlynn9341
2 ай бұрын
@Alvar2001 wrong again...the only "universal" standard was Latin...the rest of the mass was a moving target tailored for specific race or nationality in the audience. The church is more " universal" today than it was back then. There were many sects and different holy orders in the church and they pretty much did their own thing. The Spanish Church was different than the French or English or African or Indian. So please don't try to sell me on a "universal church" 4 to 8 hundred Years ago that is just not true. There was constant change and differences. Vatican II did more to make the church "universal" than any previous councils
How nice to hear this incredible Fanfare, that I have never heard before. And I'm happy that you played it without haste, which is a common sin among modern organists. This is a majestic piece for which you also chose an excellent registration, with that growling Bombarde! Congratulations, Paul and God bless you!

Amazes me the diversity of the reeds on this magnificent organ. From that cheeky little Regal / Schalmei sounding stop, to those pedal reeds (Bombarde / Ophicleide / Tromba?), which if had another 1/2" of pressure would pretty much demolish the building!!!

Another beautiful job Paul! And what a fantastic sound. I see why that stop is called the Battle Trumpets! If I were the enemy, I’d run for cover!
Exciting. I bet it was fun playing it. I love this piece of music on a big Spanish organ (played through just once a month or less). Battle parade music in the church! And it reminds me that Antonio Soler likely had a hearing issue. (!) Surely, it ends napping in the nave. Could this be the Spanish precursor to Metallica? I find it interesting that no other region adopted this use of reed stops. Trumpet Resonator Reedissimo! Did you have a nice beach vacation in Mallorca? Jealous as hell...

That will be the baroque tuning of this organ - probably a′=392 Hz instead of the modern tuning standard of a′=440 Hz. Hence a 16' Bombarde sounds like a drum more like a 32' today.
