Fanatec CSL vs Thrustmaster T300 RS - Should you spend more?

Not going to lie i am shocked i fell for these youtube vids. Got the Fanatec becasue of all the hype. Got bad news for everyone The T300 is practically the TS PC and both of them feel and are practically the same as the Fanatec. I only noticed a big difference going from a TMX to the T300 then hardly any difference going from T300 to TS PC to the Fanatec, if your wheel is not smooth then something is wrong with your T300 or was not set up properly. I think the T300 was the most fun upgrade.

I only need one pedal, wheel, and base which is the best one I can afford. Where each guitar is unique, I need 9 currently. I think a more appt comparison to this test in the music world would be solid state vs tube amp, the tm being a boss katana and the fanatec being a mesa boogie. They do almost the same thing, but if you were on stage, in the studio, or racing in an online tournament for money, there is only one choice.

I can give my opinion because I have both. There is no way around. The CSL is better. Feels and drives better. It is also a lot more expensive and every time you want an upgrade, it will cost you. A lot. The T300 I have is the Ferrari 599XX Alcantara Edition (When I bought they were offering the the manual shifts). It is a around 150€ more expensive than the normal version but worth it. It brings a bigger and just awesome rim and the T3PA pedals. I.have to say... pound for pound I think this T300 version is the best solution on market. Of course. If money isn't an issue. Go Fanatec. You never go wrong there.

If i recommend the mechanix? Yeah. They are pretty great. But from personal experience sweating depends on the body response to insulation. Some bodies only allow for cotton gloves. Others are ok with everything. Mechanix is an abrasion resistance worglove, so it'll have a lot of synthetic that can make you sweat a lot. I used to use another set of mechanix, the regular fastfit, and i use to sweat a lot in them. the fast multicam are slightly thicker but help more somewhat. I mean considering the price, of a mechanix glove, it's not a huge waste of money. And considering they are work gloves, if you cant use them for simracing, you might use them in the car or in the garden (( like I use them too) goddamn it, Is ound like a mechanix sales rep

I've had a T300 for 3 years, and loved every minute of it. The base screw has worn out the threads so it's a bit hard to mount now, but hasn't given me much trouble considering heavy use. I just ordered a new Fanatec set with the load cell pedals, because I have loved sim racing so much with the T300 I am qualified skill wise to upgrade. I have to literally reinstall the drivers every time I want to use the wheel. I've been looking at Fanatec, because I'm investing in high quality controllers for my space sim experience. But honestly I don't do much sim racing, and the other driving games I play are truck sims and farming sims, so I don't really need a strong sim racing setup. I've got issues with some of Thrustmaster's stuff, but the 300RS GT looks like a pretty good fit for now. Then, if I get more into sim racing, I can sell it and upgrade.

Thank you for this comparison, it is something I have been looking out for. One thing you could have mentioned is that a cheap way to improve the feel of the brake of the T3PA pedals you can put in the Conical Brake mod which greatly reduces brake locking, a common problem with potentiometer pedals. The T3PA can also have the Load Cell mod, but the Conical Brake mod is easier to do. Also I have a T300RS & an OSW Direct Drive wheel. Of course the OSW is much more powerful & gives more accurate steering feel, but the T300RS is still a very competent wheelbase. One thing is for sure, you will not become an alien by going from belt drive to direct drive. Its all about driving skill. It took me some time to get used to the OSW before I could put lap times a bit better than the T300RS.

Ive had my fanatec setup for about 1.5 years and I love it.... However I've had nothing but issues and I've only put about 200 hours of use on the equipment. Steering wheel constantly going out of calibration, shifter is misshifting (I'll shift to 5th and it will register it as reverse), my ebrake is constantly atleast 40% engaged at all times and will sometimes get stuck at full engagement. My accelerator pedal sometimes has issue with sensor. Fanatec is willing to help with these issues, but I'm going to have to pay out the ass and lord knows how long I'll be without all my equipment. I spent the extra money on fanatec for quality and reliability.... But I feel like I got a luxury car that requires expensive maintenance. My toy-like logitech g29 never had any issues

I am a new sim racer, in the testing phase. After a very thoughtful consideration, I bought my T300 RS GT today for £300 (at Argos) since, currently, I have to spend the double (+£600) just to get the Fanatec DD GT for PS5. I can buy any of those two options, but I do not know if sim racing is for me yet. I got as well the Playseat Challenger X and was told this seat is compatible with the T300 RS GT. I need a foldable seat since London has the smallest flats and my room is tiny. But it is looking good. I just need the PSVR to play the immersive version of Gran Turismo 7 now.

From experience, I got the T300 RS GT wheel and pedals combo and while the pedals might be better than the standard ones they are still absolute trash. I quickly decided to go the extra mile and get proper pedals in the Elite Load cell ones from Fanatec. If I were to do it again, I'd buy the standard T300 and get the fanatec pedals right away, saving some money. The Thrustmaster wheel is fine, and the CSL wheel doesn't offer the benefits the price gap suggest and still the biggest differentiator between the two combos is the pedals. And if you have the T300 already and you're planning to upgrade the wheel, then just go for something really hardcore instead of just a small step towards a very similar wheelbase.

My t300rs broke after approx 4 years of use. I decided to use this opportunity I bought basic csl elite bundle a month ago. Csl performance is better. The fact that base can remember 5 settings and that you can customise different settings on the fly is amazing. Wheel doesn't make a sound at all by comparison to t300. It's extremaly smooth as well, if you compare it to t300rs. Cooling is a bit noisy but t300rs also so no advantage there. Pedals are stainless steel and big upgreade from t300rs but because they are steel, they are cold if you are driving in socks ;) something people don't mention in reviews. All the displays on the csl are fun... But I don't tend to use them as they are in my periferal vision when driving. To summarise csl is a better wheel but it didn't make me faster. Made me maybe a bit more consistent. And because of extra 2 nm the wheel turns faster which allows you to react faster to the situation on the road. One downside to csl is the thickness of the rim. It's thinner than t300. It doesn't fill the palm of my hand. Gloves fixed this to some degree.

Finally it stopped totally to work. So is the quality just shit or what, but Trustmaster hit the rock quite good with this in my category ...

Great comparison, thank you. I have raced with my Fanatec CSR wheel and CSR Elite pedals for 8 years now, and the Fanatec quality is remarkable. A few minor things have begun to malfunction recently, such as the pedal connector to the wheel itself - no biggie as I now connect to USB on the PC and Fanaleds provides all functionality (such as rumble) flawlessly. Looking at possible replacements, I am hoping to go with Fanatec again for longevity ... the only issue is price. Boy, have Fanatec wheels become expensive! They were much cheaper in the early days.

Great overview. I'm new to sim racing and wanted a good starter wheel. I was between the t150 (tmx), g920 (g29), t300rs (tx) and fanactec CSL. I'm in my last year of a surgical residency so at the moment I don't make much, but will later. That in mind I ended up going with the T300rs. My reasoning is that in that most reviews compare the t150 to the g29, although in this covid-19 era, the t150 is about $200 and the g29 is close to $350. Almost every review that I could find, recommend the t300 over the g29 when cost isn't a factor. At this point their equal in price, and the t300 has a whole support system of pedals and wheels to grow into. The CSL has an even larger system to grow into, but I'd rather try out the $300 wheel, get some extra pedals, and when I'm ready to really comit in a year or so... I'll get a direct drive setup.

Unfortunately T300 is expensive enough to not merit the investment, considering I plan to buy a direct drive wheel eventually. I had the T300 RS, and and it was fine for about 18 months, then it went haywire...It was a great wheel for over a year of medium use, not a premium wheel, but fine really. However the pedal set is weak...I have managed to fix my pedals several times, but the pedal plastic casing is not great, and will most likely fail sooner than you expect. I am limping along with my T300 RS, but as in this video, the CSL Fanatec basic model is far more robust, and looks like a better bet, even at twice the price of the T300 RS. Some of the T300 RS's have failed with not very much use. My opinion is bite the bullet....spend probably far more than you want to...get the CSL....as theT300 RS may not last very long at all, but it will be OK for a while.

Story time. I have a G27 that I bought about 10 years ago, when GT6 came out. I loved it for so long, but always knew that I "needed" a better wheel. The Logi wheels are good, and I definitely think that you can have a ton of fun with them, but they are just not at the same level as TM and Fanatec. So last year I bought a PS5 in anticipation for GT7 and instantly began looking at wheel options. I now an in a much better position economically than 10 years ago, so money is not a huge problem, of course it's a consideration, but I wouldn't shy away from a higher end setup if needed. So I began checking the rumors and the news and saw that Fanatec was about to come out with the DD Pro which I thought was perfect for me. In the end I bought a T300 RS GT kit. The sole reason I didn't go for the Fanatec setup is all the "hidden costs" behind them. It's hard finding them in stock, shipping to my country is pretty expensive, and taxes might be insane. And after all of that I would end up with just the base, the pedals and the stock wheel. Any add on would have been hard to get, or any service would have been a nightmare. So I decided to spend less on the ecosystem and go with Thrustmaster. I went for the T300 RS because it was in stock for MSRP, so that's a good deal in this crazy economy. And the money I "saved" by not going with a Fanatec I can use to buy a proper cockpit, more rims, or even just more games to enjoy my wheel with. So while Fanatec is better, and it's worth it. I thought it would be smarter to spend less and go for Thrustmaster and buy more stuff instead. Honestly if Fanatec was easier to get in my country, I would have totally spend more and go with Fanatec. No question

My T300RS-GT has developed a fault in the force feedback motor and having looked at the forums have found it isn't uncommon, at all. The issue is a cheap motor set-up relying on glue to align both the main magnets and also the hall sensor magnet, both have come "unstuck" due to the high temperature inside the case. I have been waiting for 10 days for Thrustmaster to respond to my repair enquiry and according to the forums, many others have had the exact same issue. The most annoying part is that I had just taken delivery of set of T-LCM pedals which are fantastic but now have nothing to plug them into. I thought i would just bite the bulllet and buy a new wheel base or even upgrade to a T-GT but there is no stock of either anywhere. I'm just about to click on confirm to buy a Fanatec CSL Elite instead but it's only available with the F1 wheel for PS4 and the load cell isn't available for another month. If you're really into racing I would avoid the T300RS-GT, I've put a lot of miles on mine over the last year but still I would expect it to last or be better supported. I'm now left with a useless wheel base and a two week old set of awesome pedals.

I just bought the T300 base for 180 (new) + TLCM for 140 (used, but are almost new), hard to beat for €320... I wanted the Fanatec Clubsport V3 pedals because the base is more solid, but can't find them below 350... Maybe in future I will upgrade to fanatec, but for me is just a little hobby. Right now I have an RX8 that I'm selling to buy the Toyota GR86 so I can take some courses on track. I don't have the guts to put the RX8 on track, too much fragile.

Had the T150 with naff pedals then bought the shifter and tp3a pedals. Upgraded the base to a t300 with a decent thrustmaster f1 style wheel. I'm an avid ps4 gamer and will probably want more torque than the t300 gives..rather than getting the tgt id rather get the fanatec due to the nicer wheel selections

planning to buy a wheel because it's like my childhood dream, but I'm on a constraint budget. I seek some info on CSL on my country and found out the base + wheel alone is almost twice the price of T300 RS GT in my place I think I will pull the trigger sometimes with T300 RS GT at around 425USD (sadly it's pricy here 😂)

After my T150 retired itself, I grabbed the CSL Elite and all I can say is that the difference is huge! Even though I considered the T300, I have zero regrets moving straight to the CSL Elite, the difference is almost as large as going from the Logitech Momo Black to the Thrustmaster T150.

@@andrea.L1981 Not directly, but I didnt expect that either. I think at best, it made me more consistent "on average" and more confident to push the car since I can feel more of what's happening. If nothing else, it's much more immersive in that the ffb feels much more like my actual car which has electronic power steering. Also the steering wheel looks and feels much better in the hand than the T150 which felt like toy in comparison.

So I almost upgraded from my T300RS to a CSL Elite F1 bundle for 700 but decided to get a TS-XW servo for $370. Because I play on PS5/PC, I went ahead and got a DriveHub also. I already invested in the TM ecosystem so it feels like the right choice haha. (Already in for: My Old Alcantara 350mm wheel w/ adapter, Ferrari F1 Wheel, Sparco r383, TH8A, T-LCM Pedals 😅) Maybe I'll go DD in a few years but should be set for now 🤞🏿🤞🏿

I have a T300RS and I agree that the T3PA Pedals are trash. they are really vague, and the brake takes about a centimeter and a half before it starts to activate. They started squeaking after about 3-4 months, but once you get used to them, they work. I use it on PC with assetto corsa, mostly for drifting. I do use the Pedals app on assetto corsa so that i know how much throttle and brake i am using, but that is because you can't really figure that out by feeling it out.

I had this dilemma should I buy a t300 and lc pedals or get csl elite and it’s csl pedals not lc. I decided to go with the fanatec and it is fantastic. Coming from a t150 it is night and day. Smoothe is an understatement it is just on another level. The pedals although not lc are amazing and the conical break mod is sufficient pressure to simulate a real brake. The price for these two packages is roughly a 200 dollar difference. If you can wait a month or so to gather up the 200 dollar different I would definitely suggest that. Great review just my 2 cents.

I have had both logitech g27 and g29 and well, I got this Thrustmaster T300 Ferrari Integral Racing Wheel Alcantara Edition wich comes with the upgraded T3PA Peddles, and the upgraded Ferrari rim... so in a nut shell, oh hell yeah... this wheel has been perfect for me, reliable, I never had a single issue with it... I bought it last Christmas here in Canada on a crazy black friday sale last year for $500 canadian... Do NOT purchase the the rt version, which comes with a really crappy rim, and crappy 2 pedals set, no clutch.... right out of the box, I didn';t have to do any thing except update the rom of the rim... I can't say enough about how great this T300's reliability.... I will never go back to the logitech, although, I would recommend the logitech for price consciences people.
