-Lone wandering gunslingers of their respective verses who are known to be the most accurate and fastest sharpshooter in the West.
-Primarily specialized in firearms of the old west, but also proficient with bladed weapons and various other unconventional tools as well as being exceptional hand to hand fighters.
-Both of their lives were plagued in trauma and tragedy from their childhood to adulthood (for all of Jonah's life, he had been abandoned + wrongfully exiled as well as receiving the Mark of the Demon forever scarring his face as a punishment for his misdeeds and John lost both of his parents at a young age, leading him to become an orphan who did what he could to survive including unsatiable things to get by).
-Spent a life time trying to atone for their past misdeeds and move past their tragic pasts in becoming better people.
-Both have tried to leave behind their old violent lifestyle in hopes of being able to start anew and live a more peaceful life after a life of torment (Jonah's life as a bounty hunter and John's life as a fugitive outlaw).
-In spite of all their efforts in becoming better men however, misfortunate continues to follow them wherever they go thus would never be able to live the happy quiet life with their loved one that they desired as they would soon meet their tragic ends by the conclusion of their stories (Jonah in his final years in the Pre-Crisis/Post-Crisis continuity; he was murdered in cold blood by George Barrow, leaving behind his grieving wife - Tall Bird and John was betrayed & shot dead by the lawmen who had given him a false promise that he would be free with his wife - Abigail + son - Jack once his dues had been paid off to them).
-Lived out their lives as the stoic gunmen known for their ruthless natures, but lived by a personal code of honor to protect the innocence and avenging those who had been wronged just like them, showing a deep sense of care and compassion towards them despite their more violent approaches to a conflict.
