as someone who has seen almost every svu episode (and most multiple times) it's funny to think about how many actors have played different characters on the show and how many have then gone on to become famous

Every role for an actor is a demonstration of their talent and range. Someone looking to cast a character might audition them based on a similar character or from seeing their variety. It raises their profile a bit, leading to other roles, and then one day they're the lead on a hit show or in a movie that leads to becoming a household name.

You should watch "ER" in its entirety. You'll see so many familiar faces. Whenever I have my yearly re-watch, I get a kick out of seeing so many people that have acted in more recent shows.

I have noticed many actors and actresses who have been on the show more than once and thought really they think no one will notice well I have and it's funny.

I don't think they expected the show to be as popular as it is, and that reruns would be shown every hour on every network. So initially they didn't care about reusing actors because they assumed no one would notice. Now they do it because it's been on so long, they've used up all of the actors in the world.

@@kennedy4257 - Most people don't know that for every 'name' and 'hey, it's that guy/gal' actor there are hundreds of other actors. Every one of them dreams of a guest role that will propel them at least to 'recurring character in Hit Show' if not to 'regular cast member' -- or even to 'Main Character of New Hit Show.' Even 'hey, it's that guy/gal' actors are known well enough to work steadily.

I don't know if that's true. L&O, the original series, had been on 10 yrs before SVU started and did the same thing. Jerry Orbach had played a lawyer before he joined the cast as Lennie Brisco. S. Epatha Merkerson was the mother of a murdered child before she was Lt Van Buren and those happened a good 5-8 years before SVU premiered.

I loved all the little stories with Christopher Meloni from these actors. I freaking miss Stabler.

@@rosenrot234 - For some of them, the humor is a way of keeping inner demons at bay. The right role lets them play with their inner darkness. (Very sad that his ultimately destroyed him.) Conversely, some of the sweetest, nicest, people were/are known for playing evil characters.

You could have an Oscar and still feel like you haven't made it until you've been on Law&Order SVU.

One thing I have always noticed about the law and order franchise is they are loyal to their guest actors they always invite them back either as them playing different characters or reoccurring defense lawyers or CSI and what not. I’ve noticed that since the original law and order. This is why these shows have lasted 938383 years bc they have heart. I never miss an episode.

Especially Martin Short's & Robin Williams' appearances on SVU, we normally remember them as comedians but on SVU they played roles of evil, twisted characters....and did brilliantly.

Jennifer love Hewitt was for sure the best for me. I still go back to that episode all the time. She’s an exceptional crier.

We can be sure the actors really wanted to play against type or perception. "I want to be an asshole!" says the actor associated with squeaky-clean roles. "Can I be an ordinary 9-to-5 office wonk?" says the actor known for cultured villainy.

I think SUV is one of the most educational shows ever. From 11 to now it has taught me so much about sexual violence and how dangerous people can be. It really taught me to think of my safety above all.

I feel like we need one of these just on the episode where Ludacris played Ice T's nephew! The best L&O SVU episode EVAH.

*I've seen every last one of these.*

My two favorite episodes are “Ballerina” with Matthew Lillard and Carol Burnett and my other favorite one is “Lead” with John Gallagher Jr.

Lou Diamond Phillips episode is one the greatest and he played evil perfectly. Plus it gave us some character development for stabler and benson.

Law and Order franchise is like the only series were they shameless reuse actors lmfao. Also Peter Scanavino played a character in every single (or almost every) Law and Order series (Trial by Jury, Criminal Intent, SVU, Law & Order) he also played two separate characters on SVU.

I would love to see Ari Graynor talk about her role as Missy Kurtz in season 4 episode "Damaged" as a very tragic but soulless sociopathic 16 year old girl such very sad intense episode it could tear any emotions out of you.

I've been watching SVU since I was in elementary school (totally not appropriate but hey) and one of my first instances of recognizing a celebrity was when Jeanette McCurdy was in an episode!

LMAO at Mark. "I had evidence of...not doing straight porn." Yeah, they found his character unconscious with multiple different men's loads up his ass. Worst episode ever, bless his heart.

Michael Emerson! Man, he gave me the willies in that episode. Then I saw him in the new show "EVIL" last week and that...that was memorable.

It’s so funny because not only do some actors have repeat roles on SVU, but some actors have roles on different versions of law and order. So like an actor might’ve played on both the original law and order and SVU, or an actor could’ve been on both SVU and criminal intent. I will literally be like omg I remember him/ her! 😂

I love how Amy Poehler was talking about "10 pages" like it was a big deal. It is, but soap opera actors sometimes have to learn up to 90 pages, and it is such an unfairly maligned genre. Even if they are not always the best actors ever, they have such a good grasp of lines, spacing, zingers/tags, lighting, being on their spots, tech, etc.

I know they play them same ones over and over,but I still love them and will watch them all day and the next day too.

I have always been a fan of SVU. But I was unaware (until going back and binge-watching it a year or so ago) that pretty much the whole cast of 'Orange is the new Black' has guest-starred in the series.

also, when they find an actor they like, you'll see them as different characters in different episodes ... so imagine how validating THAT feels for those actors... like "they i know i've got the chops to chew through those pages AND they like working with me"...
