Family of 11 - RV TOUR

I'm so excited to share with you all how our family lived in this Montana High Country 362RD fifth wheel for 11 months as full-time travelers. We had such a fun experience and I know that if we can do it, anyone can. I hope you enjoy! Also, can you believe the before??

    You can tell this was made for a large family. We’re a family of 8 and we have that exact Berkey and dining room chairs. We’d love an RV, but we’d have to get a truck or large enough tow vehicle first. We spent six weeks this summer tent camping across the US and making our Honda Odyssey work as our “home away from home.” You do what you have to do for those memories. I saved your video for future ideas.

    Oh that's amazing! We used to love tent camping, however I do think it would be difficult now with all the littles. The memories are priceless and totally worth the temporary adjustments. If you ever have any questions feel free to reach out. Best of luck! ❤️

    Yeah it's definitely not for everyone. I think it helped us all to know it wasn't a forever decision. We were willing to sacrifice the privacy and space to be able to go and see/do so many things we had all dreamed about doing. For our family size it was way bigger and better than staying in hotel rooms and we got to experience so much that it was beyond worth the sacrifices. 🙂

Before settling into another house. We’re a family of 7 with 4 pets. Though I can see my pulling my hair out but something inside still desires to give this idea a try before my kids are too old. Just stumbled onto your channel. Very clever organization changes for your RV. With so much packed into the space are you ever concerned about being overweight? I know of no RV design that could withstand a family living in it full time. While we were full time in a Class A we definitely were overweight for many years and the poor Class A just wore out! So we got a 5th wheel and are very careful with what we put in it. Safe travel for you all!

  • @bigtimeblessed

    Thank you! When we first left our big house we were overweight by about 300lbs. Once we found out we reworked several things (removed heavy furniture for lightweight weight items etc). After that we checked out weight at least once a month and were never over again. It can be done but we lived very minimalistic and that worked for us. Thank you for watching!

    Good question! We would pull the table out and the littlest kids would sit back there. We wound up switching it to a smaller table that sits sideways and has 4 chairs for easier access. It is always a learning process and we're not afraid to make changes to see what will work best. 🙂

    Great question! My husband drives a dually truck and he takes 4 kids with him. I drive an 11 passenger van and I take the other 5 with me. It helps us to separate the kids that do best together and makes the drive easier. We chose this way because anything we could pull with our van would NEVER be large enough for our family. 🙂

    Thank you. I will say that my kids did not HAVE to be this close all the time. It's a choice we made as a family for a short period of our lives. We made that choice knowing there would be sacrifices but the rewards were worth it for all of us. We made memories that will last for all our lives. I think as Americans we are so spoiled with the luxury of space that we often forget most of the world lives close together in small spaces even with extended family. It's completely normal in most places. I grew up in Russia and I would have loved to have the luxuries in life that camper offers. I want my children to be able to do hard things and they know they can now. 🙂❤️ Thank you for watching!

    Idk the bed area for the kids is really sad. That's like 9 kids in 1 room. There is too many people for this kind of living. I hate seeing how the kids are cramped in 1 room like sardines and you have a big ass bedroom where you can actually move around. Jail isn't even that cramped.. Idk everything else is ok but no

  • @bigtimeblessed

    @bigtimeblessed

    Lol. First of all this was a temporary situation so they could travel the U.S. and have more adventures in 11 months than most adults have had in their entire lifetime. Secondly, 7 of our 9 kids were 10 and under. They don't require a ton of space when they are living their lives outdoors. They had plenty of room to play in there and they LOVED their beds. Kids don't require nearly what we think they do. They don't need big fancy bedrooms full of crap to be cultured, creative, and artistic. Most kids that have all of that spend countless hours on tablets and computers and still have zero idea how to entertain themselves. That's not the life I want for my kids. Less than 100 years ago, most families lived in tiny 1 room homes and thrived. I think it's important to remember that. Third, we hardly had a big "@×&" room to move around in. We have to turn sideways to get in the bed and we store everyone's clothing in that room plus my husband sets up a small desk to work in there. Our ENTIRE family made sacrifices to make that work so we could truly spend time together and make so many wonderful memories that will last all of our lives and we don't regret it one bit. Lastly, of all the things my kids experienced while traveling, sad wasn't one of them. Did they have days where it felt overwhelming, annoying, and cramped? Sure. We all did. But we have those exact same days now in a house. That's part of life. My goal is to raise children who know that other things exist besides the small 20 mile radius that most people know. To be kind and loving and be able to interact with and appreciate all different cultures and people. To not be afraid to make the hard decisions that will better their lives because someone they don't know on the internet might think it's dumb or sad. And I think we are doing that and our family is thriving because of it. ❤️

    Growing up in a large family myself and now raising a large family, everyone is accustomed to the dynamics, lifestyle and values of the family. I grew up spending the full 2 months of my summer holidays each year camping sharing a tent with 7 family members. When it rained we sat under a large tarp that was over our picnic table with another down the side to block the wind - or put on our rain gear and went out anyway.. We cooked on the fire and a 2 burner camp stove. It wasn't sad, it was incredible and taught us a lot about nature, life, each other and ourselves. We are such a weak culture and society now in the west - on many levels. That's what's really sad.

    Another thing: once my older siblings started leaving home, us kids missed having them with us in the summer holidays and they missed it too and would come camp with us on their days off from work when they were able. So it couldn't have been all that bad.
