I'm so glad you mentioned that Seth stopped working on the show. It always annoyed me whenever Seth gets the blame for all the bad jokes that the newer seasons put out when he's only really there just to do the voices now. Anyways great video.

I mean... he could choose to _NOT_ say the lines if he thought they were that bad.

This was depressing. This is the reason why trying to kill off a legacy show like this doesn’t work. Even if you decide to orchestrate a crew wide walk-off they will still order new episodes and just hire different people to take over your old position. But hey, that’s just how businesses work.

As much as I would hate to say this, I feel bad for Seth, because I can tell he wants to work on something else other than just Family Guy, and American Dad

Yeah. He’s done stuff like the Orville, and I hope he can do more stuff like that down the line. I need to make sure I don’t complain about him specifically. He doesn’t deserve it.

Not to mention all the pot shots the show takes at Bob's Burgers, but unlike what South Park did, it comes off as much more salty. Not only is BB the better show imo, but it's also beaten them in ratings. And I hate how people will cling to dinosaur legacy franchises. "B-but they made this one good thing, so we have to save them!" ... No we don't.

When it comes to Family Guy, the first three seasons are my favourites. When the show came back after its second cancellation, the quality was gradually declining. Gone was the witty jokes and crude yet expressive animation. It was now replaced with: - Padded jokes (Either by the writers falling in love with the gag or dragging it out save on animation). - Surface level offensive jokes that are there only to shock. - Flanderised characters. - Political/social satire that came off as one sided and talked down to the viewer (The Not All Dogs Go To Heaven episode is a good example of this). - No understanding of a subject they want to talk about (Transgender topics and Domestic Abuse). - Animation that’s stiff and copy & paste. - Grossing the audience out than making it laugh. - Bitterness at other shows success (After a decently written gag, they ruin it with Peter getting angry that the audience would laugh at it if it was on Modern Family). - Adopting a story structure similar to what The Simpsons devolved into (Having a first act that doesn’t tie into the second). It’s these reasons that made me stop watching. At this rate, the show has become the ending to Cronenberg’s The Fly; a mangled creation that’s begging for someone to put a bullet in its head.

Something I noticed with Family Guy is, that the show later relies way too much on parodying the works of others: Other films, other shows, other stories, other characters (they are using the Simpsons characters a lot for their jokes in recent seasons), commercials, meme culture, etc. You can say about the newer Simpsons episodes whatever you want, but at least they have enough creativity left to at least come up with their own stories. Family Guy is way too dependent on other people's work.

@@alchemistofsteel8099 The Critic may have run out of ideas since 2017?? Back then he usually reviews bad films, because their are more opportunities for jokes. Now he does reviews on ether good or ok films, it doesn't have the same effect. For example the critic said his favorite reviews are the Tom & Jerry and Mulan Rouge.

I would really like to see an American Dad version, as Fox screwed that show so badly, to the point that TBS had to pick up the show for more episodes.

Would you ever consider covering The Oblongs in some capacity? I LOVE Adult Swim animation and this show lives like a fever dream in my subconscious. Saberspark was making this big veggie tales documentary around that time and not only was I interested but it made me want to check out the show. @@DavidDumbedDown My issue with this is that it feels rushed he has plenty of time to put all of his shows from the 2010s yet he chose a show that came out in 1999 Some of the claims he put out feels like he just recycled them so he could argue at the girls twerking and everything that Seth McFarlane put out. Overall I felt disappointed and while most cartoon critics change and evolve to do better enter doesn’t want to do that! (Sorry if this took long!)

The only issue with modern loud house is unrealistic plot lines. How do you go from typical sitcom shenanigans to plots about Time Machines. It's so stupid. I love fantastical plots as much as the next guy but in the right show.

It’s funny you mention SpongeBob because when the NickToons episode of this series came out last year, I originally thought it was going to be all about that. However, to my surprise, it wasn’t, but rather every show that Nickelodeon screws over with. Even now, I still had no idea that Nickelodeon was that scummy of a network.

I’m also surprised you mentioned the Loud house in this as well. I was actually gonna bring it up myself because during a live stream that you and Billy had on Valentine’s Day, you mentioned that the newer episodes might get moved over NickToons. Because of that, I wrote a story called “It’s Not the Anymore” Where Lincoln tells Lori that ever since Chris Savino left due to the allegations he was accused of, the show has changed. To make things worse, Nickelodeon not only canceled the Casagrandes, but now they’re planning on doing a live action Loud House show as well. And believe me, I really wanna get back into watching that show again, but every time I try when a new episode is ready to come out, I just can’t bring myself to do it.

I remember a KZreadr (can't remember the name) literally showed the math on how most of family episodes is just cutaways now and I think even a writer said that all they focus on now is said cutaways

The problem with shows that copy family guys is that family guys was always about offending people

I actually think the constant disturbin jokes started off as more of a test. Almost like kids being destructive to get a reaction from their parents, or just testing the limits of how much they can get away with.

Sometimes I forget Family Guy wasn't an overnight hit in those first few seasons, because I grew up watching it on adultswim and whatever channel happened to be airing it at the time. I just can't believe there was a point in time where Family Guy had as much staying power as "Told By Ginger." It seems like they're trying to do more story driven episodes recently and less cutaway gags with the most recent season, but I could be wrong.

I started watching in the beginning, and by Season 3, they had me. I kept watching into 2002 expecting more new episodes, then found out it was cancelled for good, until the DVD sales brought it back.

You need to do one for Final Space and what WarnerMedia is doing to it. It needed to be talked about and why it's important for creators to get the rights for their shows back.

It's like Family Guy saw an episode of "Happy Tree Friends" and thought "meh, I can top that." And that's what they've been trying for decades.

Compare a show like Family Guy to something like Fawlty Towers: John Cleese only made 12 episodes over two seasons because he didn't want to run the show into the dirt. If more American shows had the same mentality, a lot of them would probably be better remembered as all-time classics. But no, the show's only worth ending when the people stop watching altogether... or they're making the show that the network *wants* to be a hit look bad

You should do South Park or Gravuty Falls in terms of censorship

I used to like the show, but I don’t really like it that much anymore. Everyday I keep seeing people complain about the character of Peter Griffin and his crimes throughout the show. If I ever become a movie director and writer, I would do a Family Guy movie where Peter dies at the end after coming into blows with the main villain. It’s a stretch and a bit barbaric, but hey, it’s giving the fans what they want, right?

I'm starting to think that having a show to be continuously fresh would mean to bring in continuity, When characters don't age and learn their lessons a show can become stale as it keeps reusing plots and it gets redundant. If a show's universe ages in real time with us then you can create more conflicts and scenarios and it'll be mostly fresh. Take that away and you get Family Guy, a show that wants to die because they don't know what else to do as everything been done

Actually there is something you can do about it, just change the channel. If you see a show you like go through what Family Guy is going through then it's not worth giving your attention to.

I outgrew family guy. I outgrew a lot of adult animation as well as current media in general. I love the golden era of the 70s and early 80s for films and adult animation when the world wasn't as complicated as it is now.

I think this show should be called Zombie Guy.

While I respect your opinion on not liking the show, I do believe that people seeing Family Guy as nothing but shock value, has been an over-generalization of the series for years that has personally become tiring. Keep in mind, even as a fan of the series, I dislike episodes such as "Herpe the Love Sore" and "Seahorse Seashell Party", but those episodes are more than a decade old, and I do not see Family Guy as the same show it was then. Surprisingly, this recent season has had a decrease in cutaways and gore. I agree the show has become different in many ways, but I don't believe it's entirely bad, even to this day. For those who have seen more recent episodes, and still don't like the show, that's more than fine. Despite my differing opinion, keep up the good work, man.

The reason John K was fired is because Ren and Stimpy focused so much on animation, that it caused delays. Family Guy isn't Ren and Stimpy.

If I’ll be honest, it’s not just TV shows that people wouldn’t expect to be big hits, it’s with stuff in general. Movies are another example. Take a look of what happened to the Ice Age series. Just like what they did to Family Guy, the heads at Fox were the only ones that wanted more of it but the people at Blue Sky didn’t. Or, I hate to use this as an example, but look at VeggieTales Abridged. In a weird way, the rabbid fans were like the big studio heads who only wanted you to do VTA and nothing else. It may not be the best comparison, but I hope you understand. The way I see it, the creator of anything they make are the ones who should decide whether or not they want to keep something going. They shouldn’t let big businesses do it for them, otherwise they’ll have everything they’ve worked so hard be taken away from them.

Trevor wasn’t exactly badmouthing it. He only brought it up as another example of how some shows go on longer than they should. The reason the Loud House is like that right now is because Chris Savino got fired from it due to sexual allegations, and because of that, not only did he longer have control over it, but his name has now been colored from orange to dark gray, almost black as seen in the theme song. While it is true that some of the slice of life stuff is still there, it also seems to have a bit of fantasy added in the later seasons that some people are mixed about. The show had been going on too long because the network executives at Nickelodeon decided to keep it going without Chris’ involvement. The worst thing is, Chris had stated that he can’t bring himself back to watch it anymore because of his firing. The very idea of him watching a show that he made and is no longer a part of is too depressing for him. To be fair, at least he seemed legitimately sorry for the bad things he’s done, and some people even think he should get a second chance. Besides, Trevor even said that doing one Loud House video would be good enough.

@@mediamementosofficial I understand. I think it’s a pretty good show too, but I’m not really sure if I’ll get back into watching it either, especially with how divided the fanbase has been. One of the reasons I fell in love with it is because it takes place in Michigan, which was my home state. I even wrote a couple stories based on it, one of which I started writing after you mentioned that it might get moved over to NickToons. It’s called “It’s Not the Same Anymore”. In this story, Lincoln tells Lori in universe that their show had changed since Chris left. One of the inspirations for it was actually what happened to the Angry Beavers finale, more specifically with the fourth wall break.

I’m not gonna lie, but part of that quote from 12:32 to 12:42 is especially well said. Take a look at Gravity Falls for example. Alex Hirsch originally wanted to end the show after one season, but then decided to not only have it continue with a second one, but end it that way as well with a proper grand finale. Another good example is the Amazing World of Gumball. Back on September 6th, 2016, just five days after the first episode of season 5 came out, it was reported that season 6 would be the last season for Ben Bocquelet to work on, which meant that the show could continue on without him. However, in October of 2018, Ben reaffirmed that statement by saying that season 6 would officially be the end of the show. The reason I bring those two shows up is because the creators of them were on board from beginning to end, hoping to make sure they wouldn’t lose their identities. If that happens, they’ll start to go through seasonal rot.

@@liladefarge9125 In this particular video this was an accurate comment. In the Phineas and Ferb video it said Disney shows usually don't last long and Phineas and Ferb was in limbo. The animators and writers needed work so they went on to other projects. If they restarted the show for a 5th season they would need a completely new crew. So they decided to end it.

Even though I’m not a Family Guy fan, I’ll admit its earlier seasons were fine (I don’t love them, I don’t hate them) since the characters were still likable, they didn’t go overboard with cutaway gags, and Meg was not a punching bag. It’s the post-revival seasons that keep me from enjoying it (that and the fact that I think it’s only pushing buttons just for the sake of doing so).

The best seasons are 4-5.

I think it comes down to taste. For an example, you like dilbert but I haven't laughed more than once out of 3 episodes. Yet I watch the first 2 seasons of family guy and it's just about flawless. Plus I love baby blues it's a really good show! Yet you ragged on that one as well. Idk man you seem to like the bland dry comedy 😂😂

I love family guy so much

I cringe someone says "Family Guy is still funny" do they refer to the show's genius efforts in comedy or something? No they just refer to extremely random out of nowhere moments or cutaways, strip those out of contention and just then what do you have? Earlier seasons before the late 2000s had quality, they had purpose and thought out ideas. Now Brian and Stewie are uwu adorable together milk their episodes aaah. Have Meg and Chris be utterly worthless tumors, and make Peter and Lois the worst characters challenge all the damn time. I get the people behind the show don't care, but for the love of god a job is a job do the damn thing you're supposed to do or give the torch to people that can ffs.

@@PuffyZillaman yooo that’s awesome you like family guy now. I remember seeing your old rant family guy which I still find it entertaining and still watch it to this day. But anyways that’s awesome you like family guy can’t wait for your next alright cartoon episode.

I adore Family Guy but can't stand South Park. One show is actually funny and the other is preachy and annoying. Family Guy puts multiple jokes in their episodes. South Park picks a topic and repeats the same few jokes. They have a bad habit of running jokes into the ground.
