Family Farm Makes Hay (10,000 Bales/Day!!)

Thanks for tuning into Farming Insider!
This video is little more than a montage of our hay operations. Enjoy it and feel free to ask any questions. This is how we handle small squares using Arcusin Multipacks and Steffen System grapples.

Im a small time cattle farmer. My dad snd I have an 80 acre farm in the high mountains of WV. To see such a large operation running so smoothly is impressive. Considering we just baled around 100 4x5 rolls for first cut. Were going to get a second cut but third is left for the cattle to graze this fall yo prolong the days before feeding hay. Keep up the good work. It’s impressive.

It is nice to see a family farm in operation. You are the lifeblood of America. Not corporate farms owned by billionaires. When I was young we milked by hand and loaded smaller bales into the hay mow. Enjoyed the video.

This a great video! You give a mix of first-hand demo of the equipment an operation, but also some fun music and action shots at the end. I really like the look at the Arcusins; they look a lot simpler than the Bale Barons and Bandits. Your system with the balers, rakes, and bale lifts works fantastic with the labor you've got.

Couple years back I got a opportunity to spend a summer on a hay farm in Middleburg NY trough my AG high school in NYC, and it has to be the best experience of my life so far. It’s very hard work and very labor intensive, and because hay baling has so many moving parts a lot of troubleshooting. I earned so much respect for farmers. Love the video brought back good memories

As a boy when baling time came it was all hands and very little machinery and the young men in the area would go from farm to farm to help out, all small square bales as they had to be man handled. I don't think we had large square or round bales then and no one had the equipment to handle them anyway.

Brings back memories of baling our north 40. Course we used a jay wagon. And me and my brother Donnie were throwing hay on the wagon. While dad and Michelle stacked. My mom drives the tractor... I swear that day I vowed to never mess with hay again. Course if you were to call me to come up and help I'd make the journey . Certified CDL driver. And if you wanted to research me to operate equipment I'm game... just gimme a shout.

Great job. I don't know the names of the items......but with a little work.....the machine that bails the hay can also pull the machine that stacks them into larger bundles.....then you are doing twice the work with one man/tractor ...............then have the truck with trailer follow the machine that picks them up to load on trailer......the truck can run ahead of machine and pull across in front.....he loads......then blows horn......truck with trailer......runs up a few bailes.....and turns back across and machine loads................this way he never has to deal with them twice...... It sounds more efficient in my head.

First time viewing. You have a great operation. I also do hay on a much smaller scale . I round roll the bales with a 4x5 ft mega wide 458 John Deere baler. And my son has a 5X5 mega wide 558 JD baler. I would like to know your thoughts about the Massey Ferguson tractors verses the John Deere tractors. How long have you been running both brands. I grew up with Massey Ferguson in the 1960's tru the 90's from the 100 series to 400 series. My oldest brother still has a 475 Massey Ferguson and another brother has a 450MF. Me and my son have John Deere's a 6125 and a 5320 and a 1040 JD and I have a 539 IMT tractor. I am about to be in the market to buying another tractor about a 80 to 90 hp cab. I be using it pulling the baler and Bushhogging. I just haven't been around the newer Massey Ferguson. I will probably buy a good used low hr tractor between 30 to 40 thousand dollars . I like the older 5425 or 5525 John Deere if I buy a Deere that what it will be . But I am interested in the Massey Ferguson 80 to 90 hp . How dependable are the last couple of generations of Massey Ferguson? Ya'll doing a fantastic job putting up hay . Back in the day we had to do it by hand .

British farmers have been suffering so much unseasonal and excess amounts of rain recently, and last year as well, unable to get machines onto the land, we're so envious of your climate and dry ground!

Interesting video! Small bales must still be popular in the US as there are a lot of small bales made there on KZread. Here in the uk most farms use round or big square balers. They look like a lot of hard work to me 🥵🥵

Interested in what the small bales are used for ? Horses? , in UK every one went to round or big square bales then some realized that there was more mony in small bales , so would bale field with large bales and then in winter rebale to small ones and bundle like you do.

  • @FarmingInsider

Yep! We sell primarily to the horse and stable market. We do some rebaling in the winter as well to keep up with demands

Interesting. However looks like it takes alot of labor. New Holland make a slick sytem with their bale wagon that would take less man power and possibly less capital investment.
