I’m glad to see neighbors connect; no matter what the race, age, ethnicity, whatever. The world is a better place for it. I am 72 and live alone (no kids) and worry about my future when it comes to connections with others. Good people here.

@@DebOcchiuto I get it. When I was early 30s a very elderly but spunky lady rented the house next door. She had grown kids that came by occasionally but she was a people person and needed more interaction. We befriended her right away and did our best to keep her connected but she went even further; she parked a lawn chair on the grass at the edge of her front yard, very near the sidewalk. We were close to our town's little downtown shopping/dining area so there was quite a bit of foot traffic on our block. She said, I figure if I sit here and say hello as people pass by, they can't very well ignore me! LOL 😄😂 Cracked me up! She was such a pip. I liked her very much and sadly, she passed suddenly, a short 6 mos later, but I enjoyed knowing her in her last months and she DID get to know quite a few folks! RIP Ms. Jeri Brown, you were an awesome lady! So to Royal Highness and DebO, I say, put yourselves out there and make friends! I probably will in a few yrs!! Also, volunteer in dog rescues. They need helping hands of all ages; there's always something to be done. 😊😊🥰🥰

Great story. It's also good for the kids to be part of multi-generational community/village. 💕

My sisters and I grew up across the street from an elderly couple whose only grandchild lived at least 200 miles a way. All of our grandparents also lived kinda far away. So we adopted them as our grandparents and they adopted us as their grandchildren. We genuinely considered them our third set grandparents and we did call them grandpa and grandma. We did a lot with them and I'm so grateful for the time we got to spend with them. Grandpa died about 10 years ago (I was only 13 but I gave a eulogy at his funeral) and Grandma died about 3 years ago. I miss them everyday!

I had two boys at different times working for me with house construction and maintaining the yard. Their family has adopted me into their family, I am 67 hard to do the yard work. The younger 18 year old boy has worked for since he was 13, he will not let me do any yard work, saying it is his responsibility and he is a very hard worker. I treat him like my son!!

This was the best story of the year. I wish we could hear more stories like this.

I love that story because it sounds like Paul might not have any relatives around, and he probably gets very lonely. This is a family for this man. They even invite him on holidays. The kids think he's Grandpa, and he loves the kids and they love him. Just a beautiful story.

I think your family must be lovely and that makes it easier to reflect that love back to you. I have 7 children - 6 sons- and my husband was in the military while we raised them. I knew when we moved to our new duty station, when we pulled up to the house and they started unloading all the bikes and toys that the neighbors would be nervous to see so much "stuff". I use to bake cookies and send plates regularly to the neighbors with the boys. How can you be mad when a stray ball comes into your yard when the boys are always bringing cookies to you. We have been so fortunate to ALWAYS have great neighbors. Now in retirement, we lucked into this forever home with fantastic neighbors again.

I love this so much and I totally agree w/her, give your neighbors a chance. Do your best to start off the right (friendly) foot. Maybe you'll become fast friends, maybe not, but odds are better that at least you won't have negative experiences. We all have to get along when we live next to each other! Some of the best friends I've ever had were neighbors from years ago.
