Police body cameras should not be controlled by the Police department. There should be no button that can be used to turn cameras off by the Police. I thought those were the rules in the 1st place. To prevent Police tampering of evidence, damning or not.

Why are you thinking? How about knowing? First of all, cams running for 8 hour shifts or 12 hour shifts won't last long. Cams don't run forever, you know. And police don't control the cams. There's a process of demand. The STATE demands to view the footage and the FED's demand to view the footage because it's EVIDENCE. Police cams aren't for Instagram views or for Tic Tok. It's EVIDENCE. If a knife is evidence, police just don't go around and hand the public the knife to look at. Lol. It's not "show and tell", bro.

I just don't understand why police depts don't automatically release bodycam footage anyway in the interest of community relations (assuming there is no misconduct on the part of their officer). They know it's going to be released eventually so why just make themselves look that much more shady?

That’s because in any major incident body cam’s become evidence and are part of the investigation. Only when the investigation is over do they release the body cam footage.

And yes, the videos do matter as these are public employees and, as taxpayers, we should all have the opportunity to have an opinion on their behavior. If you don't want to watch it, then don't, but you can't make that decision for the rest of us.

Because that’s what the news does. Gives half the story in order to lean on one side because they know the police can’t release anything until the investigation is complete. The news story causes anger, which causes violence and that boosts more news coverage and viewership. News channels love dirty laundry and moves to the newest thing afterwards.

I agree with you. I want to see the footage. But ask yourself this question: when is the last time video clearly exonerated a cop's actions, yet the refused to release it? Remember about six months ago when cops shot that 13 year old kid and everyone was upset and literally within a day or two, they released footage showing they were innocent? Again, ask yourself, if they're innocent, why would they refuse to release the body cam footage?

I was out of state working at a restaurant 5 AM in the morning in Florida. My shirt accidentally lifted over my firearm exposing it We accidentally set the alarm off And 2 officers showed up. When I realized what happened I apologized to the officer informing him that I knew Florida was not open carry. I complied with his request to put my hands on my head, he disarmed me and was considerate enough to take my gun and keep it out of the rain. After checking me out knowing I was legally carrying let me go on my way. Had I been arrogant and obnoxious and uncooperative, that situation could have went real bad for me. Accident or no accident he, could have arrested me for breaking the law.

That's a nice story. On the other hand I have had the police in LA put a gun to my head while seated in my car after being stopped for a traffic violation. When I asked why the officer put a gun to my head ( through the pax side window) he said, I thought you were arguing with my partner." When I later identified myself as an off duty police officer. The officer lied and said he put his gun to my head because he saw my gun under my front drivers seat. Which was impossible. I told him I was a cop, he changed his story. He had NO name tag on his uniform that night. So cops do make mistakes and lie to cover them up. You were fortunate you had professional cops respond in your case. And luckily not a trigger happy cowboy trying to save the world, that thinks he/she is God's gift to police work.

I got the chills when I heard her screaming he deserves 35 years.. no ma'am, that man deserves life

In case anyone reads this who has asked themselves this question there is a very boring answer: When a random black person shoots a random black person, WHO DO YOU PROTEST? Think about it. Who do you protest? Murder is already a crime. The family is already grieving. The community is already grieving. The police hopefully will do their job and if so that person will go to jail. What else can people do? You can't stop a random person from killing if that's what they're going to do. Sometimes the people try to do something about the guns but that often gets blocked or rendered ineffective by neighboring states with lax gun laws. Sometimes they try to improve education. Well that requires money from city budgets and as you can tell from the schools in these neighborhoods, that money is not being allocated to schools. Sometimes they try for more social programs to help get people out of these dangerous situations and help kids before they become a problem adult. That movement was called Black Lives Matter and they asked to defund part of the police budget and put it into these programs. You will recall that white conservatives lost their mind. They attacked them. The cops brutalized them. The president maligned them. In the end nothing was done because whether democrat or republican, they are not going to act against police unions nor are they EVER going to provide black kids with the type of education that will help them mentally get out of poverty. So every effort is blocked. Every political avenue is stuck. There was funding for black colleges and free local colleges that would help break the cycle of poverty and crime, but guess what? That was blocked too. Everything is blocked and then you get online and say: "Where is the outrage?" But I doubt you supported blm and you probably didn't support build back better, because you don't really care. For everyone who took the time to read this I hope you found it helpful in understanding why there is a seeming silence about these black on black issues.

There was a case maybe six months ago where police shot a young kid. Literally within 3 days, they released the video to show, yep, the kid was at fault and deserved to be shot. I have NEVER seen a case where cops were innocent, yet they didn't release the video. The mere fact that they're not releasing the video is extremely telling. I'll reserve judgement for now. Maybe the cops were in the right to kill him. But again, if the video exonerated them, we would have seen it by now, wouldn't we have.

The police probably told them that with the combination of not having a driver license and with no proof that the vehicle is even theirs, it will have to be towed. This is awful, I often forget my Driver License and have my identification card. Police can run your id and it will show if you have a valid driver license. Not sure of the circumstances was that led the officer to kill this young man.

If any part of your theory was true, they would've made those statements early on. Even the cops stated the victim had a state ID so they had no problem identifying him. It may be as simple as a violation of "contempt of cop" that got him in trouble.

The DAs and other officials have to review the footage and usually a judge has to release the footage. This could take some time.

Cops want to go home to their families just as much as you and I, with that, said... Car off keys on the dash hands on the wheel and keep them there, front-seat passenger hands on the dash and keep them there, back seat passengers hands on the back of the front seat and keep them there.

You should have the COMPLETE story before you report biased information that taints the Miami Police guilty. There is obviously more to this story, but I can not believe the MPD is going around just shooting someone in the “head” for no reason. Cops don’t release footage because they need time to either alter the footage or destroy it. There is no legitimate reason to withhold it from the public. Body worn cameras should be live streaming to a public website and saved to a publicly accessible cloud server.

they are quick to release videos that suit their narratives. Otherwise it's just statements of what happened while withholding the videos.

Listen its as simple as, don’t resist arrest and the situation won’t escalate. Even if your being wrongfully arrested at the time don’t resist and fight it in court…prove to the jury and judge your a law abiding citizen. Sorry for your the family involved.

I wonder what the body-cam footage will show. I suspect that the victim in this case decided to get into a fight with the officer. Maybe attempted to get the officer's gun.

Have to wait for video, but in every case of anything like this the person was resisting or fighting back. When stopped by the police, I was always yes sir what ever you say sir and talk respectfully. Best not to admit to anything, request lawyer

The question that first comes to my mind having seen so many videos of arrests is whether or not the man was resisting arrest.

Even if he was resisting, that doesn't give anyone the right to kill him. Deadly force is only justified when facing the threat of death or great bodily injury. If he pulled a gun on the cop then the cop can shoot him, but if they were just tussling and the cop saw or felt a gun on the guy then that's not a lethal force situation.
