Fame, Fatherhood, and Leaving "Lois & Clark". || The Clifton Duncan Podcast 46: DEAN CAIN.

Dean Cain is a multi-faceted, Emmy-winning filmmaker and actor.
An All-American football player at Princeton University, he moved to entertainment when an injury ended his NFL career.
While he's most well-known for starring as Clark Kent/Superman in “Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman”, he's also produced and hosted “Ripley’s Believe It Or Not”, and made close to 200 films--including “Out of Time” (playing opposite Denzel Washington), “The Broken Hearts Club,” God’s Not Dead,” “Vendetta,” “Gosnell,” and the soon-to-be released, “Little Angels” (which he wrote, produced, directed, and starred-in).
Additionally, you may have seen him co-host THE TODAY SHOW, or FOX AND FRIENDS in-between his numerous film and television projects, and he currently hosts season 9 of “Masters of Illusion” for the CW, along with season 3 of "The Christmas Caroler Challenge".
A strong believer in Human Rights, Dean received the prestigious ORDER OF ARMENIA for producing the anti-Genocide documentary film, ARCHITECTS OF DENIAL. Dean’s newest documentary, HATE AMONG US, recently won an Emmy. HATE AMONG US, shines a light on the current rise of anti-Semitism throughout the United States and Europe.
A single father and a staunch supporter of our military and first responders, Dean is honored to serve as a sworn Sheriff’s Deputy in Frederick County, Virginia and a Reserve Police Officer in Pocatello, Idaho.

Oh, I'm so glad you got, Dean Cain. He is always a delight to listen to. He cuts straight through the BS. He said it so well. Accept and respect people's differences. Our individualism is what has made America great.

"Nothing can take the place of home in rearing and teaching children, and no worldly success can compensate for failure in the home." Mr. Cain definitely made the right call. His relationship with his son matters so much more than his résumé.

Dean Cain--what a jewel! Meanwhile, in November 2022, the National Education Association (NEA) teacher's union tweeted "Educators love their students and *know better than anyone* what they need to learn and to thrive." The NEA hates people like Dean Cain, because he believes that parents must play the key and crucial role in the rearing and teaching of children.

It's interesting; I get the sense Dean has avoided falling into the ideological "pit" of Hollywood (so to speak) by going out of his way to pursue meaningful life experiences, beyond just his acting career. Fatherhood, writing, traveling. Can we capture that drive more often?

Man, you've been interviewing some incredible people. Dean Cain is not one I'm familiar. What impressed me about him is his versatility via his various accomplishments. Sadly, I thought, his embodiment of talent and values seems too good to be true in today's world. I believe the zeitgeist of today seeks to smother individual success due to the inhospitable landscape we've created.

I never saw much of Mr. Cain growing up, but now I clearly need to correct this. As to the question of how you get the artists and tradesmen to meet and ally, I think the common ground is Craftsmanship. Anyone and everyone can be enthralled by seeing a professional (or someone competent at least) in their element. Tradesmen have a leg up on what could be called 'credibility' because they are making something physical. That house, this mug, etc. wouldn't exist if not for someone's effort. Something like a film, a musical, or an album I would compare to a road, or a cruise ship. It's the product of dozens, hundreds of people jointly and disparately working to an end. It's too big for most to relate to. That's why I feel leading performers, directors, et all get the spotlight. Easier for the majority to focus on. I'm sure this is not a new thought at all in Entertainment. All that in mind, I still am not sure how to precisely define the hurdles in the way of reaching that common ground of Craftsmanship. Lord knows, I've never watched a "making of" documentary of any film or the like. Maybe I should. Any recommendations?

Good Afternoon Mr. Duncan, I made a comment a while ago that you should move your ad to the middle of the podcast as I would skip it if it was early in the podcast. I have been watching the ad now without skipping, as the effort of removing my phone from my pocket is not worth the small amount of time. Kindly return the ad to the front of the podcast again. There is clearly no pleasing me. Except for the coffee recommendation, I have enjoyed it. Your Viewer, Andrew

Great interview! What Dean said about 'othering' people is something very important to keep in mind, both when the so called progressives are doing, but also we ourselves when we start dismissing them as 'woke' or any other label. People are individuals, not labels, not pieces of a group. That 'woke idiot' is just a misguided person, much like you invariably were at some point or another. The only way to get past this cultural divide is by reaching out, engaging and having the difficult conversations 1-on-1 in our daily lives.

I mean... these days DeNiro is kind of sleepwalking through parts, so maybe not a great choice but I know what you mean. But as for arts and crafts, blue collar and artsy types... there are a ton of blue collar types working on films building sets etc.
