False Prophets - Teaching Moment | Kris Vallotton

False Prophets - Teaching Moment | Learn more here: www.krisvallotton.com/
In this teaching moment from August 01, 2010, Kris Vallotton explains how to discern a false prophet from a true prophet.
What is a false prophet? The Bible says in the last days, false prophets will rise? So how many of you know that there has to be real prophets if there's going to be false ones?
A false prophet isn't someone who gets a word wrong, it is someone who has an evil heart. Matthew 7 reveals a common thread for false prophets which is lawlessness in that they hear the word of God, but do not do it.
1 John 4 reveals a test for a false prophet. They don't acknowledge the redemptive power of God; they don't listen; nor do they love. False prophets use fear and fear of punishment as a main motivation in their ministry to get people to do what they predict.
"There is a difference between a false prophet and a bad prophet"
"You will know them by their fruit"
"Keep the main things, the main thing."

a true prophet is a man who is walking with God and is led by the Holy Spirit. his fruits are of God. He is a man called by God. he is humble, fearless, not conscious of money, does not contradict The Word, not a man of diverse faith, a preacher of righteousness, not a fame seeker etc the opposite of this defines who a false prophet is. i agree with kris that we shouldnt just rely on prophecies and works alone to discern who is a true or false prophet because the devil works miracles too. we should tell the difference by testing all spirits and paying attention to the fruits. Jesus said we shall know them by their fruits. however i dont agree that there are differences between a bad prophet and a false one??? they are in the same shoes. a true prophet walking with God doesnt get it wrong. i do know prophets who got everything right. an eg is Elijah, the bible even says that he was a man of like passions as we and yet he prayed and rain ceased upon the earth. there are other prophets too like Elijah, Jeremiah and Isaiah.

In Acts 21, Paul is in Jerusalem. The Jews accusing him cry out for assistance, "Crying out, Men of Israel, help..." Part of their complaint was an assumption that Paul had brought an Ephesian into the Temple. Those who bound Paul were NOT gentiles. Those who bound Paul entered the Temple in order to do so.

I'm tired of them saying Agabus got Paul's prophecy wrong. If they apply the same standard to prophets, what about Zechariah 12:10 "then they will look on Me whom they pierced?" "They" are referring to Jews, but it was a Roman soldier who did the piercing. Same issue as with Agabus. They're overparsing the Agabus prophecy to get away with their "real prophets can make mistakes" error. Because with that standard, anyone can be a prophet and get away with the title.

here's the question I have. To say if a prophet causes fear in a person means they're not legit, what if the hearer is deep in sin and feels fear because of that sin, relative to the word given. Someone who God may be trying to warn might feel fear from a prophetic word but cast it off because they believed the prophet was false because of that feeling of fear. I think a study of the use of fear in that scripture would be wise. As fear in some cases is a good thing that can protect. aka the fear one feels too close to a cliff and pulls back as not to fall.

These people will come up from within the church, deceiving people with great (and real) signs and wonders, and preaching to you a false holy spirit For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. 15 It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve. If the light that is in you is dark, how great is that darkness! Let me tell you that in the end there will be a great falling away from the truth. False prophets will run rampant and proclaim themselves to be great apostles and prophets equal to Paul.( 2 Cor 11:12) They will lead people into seeing false Jesus and false angels and doing occult practices such as astral projection, visualization, and absorbing dead people's anointings in the name of Christ that were specifically forbidden in scripture (Deut 12-18).

Also, in Acts ch 21, Agabus does prophecy Paul will be taken by Jews and handed over to the gentiles. And, that is EXACTLY what happens. Paul is taken inside the temple. They accuse Paul of bringing Greeks inside the Temple (non-Jews were not allowed.) They took him out to kill him, and the Roman captain came and the Jews relinquished Paul to the Gentile captain. Agabus was NOT inaccurate as you say.

Prophecy is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, where He gives a message through the words of the Prophet, just as when He gives us the ability to speak in a language we never learned. The words are not ours, but HIS. So, if a prophecy is inaccurate, this cannot be an utterance by the Holy Spirit, because HE is infallible. The scriptural tests of a true or false prophet, are two: either what they prophesied didn't come true, or it did, then they began to urge the people to follow false gods.

Alan Heron you are dead wrong. In fact if you look in the cannon of scripture it was said of only a single prophet that God would not let a single utterance from his lips fall to the ground, that was only said of Samuel, not a single other prophet in all of the scripture. You missed it, so by your own standards you must be a false teacher.

A false prophet is one who turns people away from holy living in Christ and says that it doesn't matter whether they commit sin or not. No Christian brother or sister is a savage wolf just because he or she might make an error in the prophetic. A savage wolf will turn people away from Christ and say it is not necessary to receive Christ as Saviour. A false prophet is not a genuine Christian believer. He is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

1Thessalonians 5:20-21- Do not despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast what is good. “Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others weigh what is said.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭14:29‬ ‭ESV‬‬ In the NT context, if prophecies need to be tested or “weighed” by others in the church, this reveals that there’s a possibility of making a mistake. Hearing God more accurately grows through relationship with Him. Human beings also see in part. There are times when an individual is inaccurate in their prophecy, but that does not make them a “false prophet”. Old Testament prophecy differs from New Testament prophecy. Prophecy is foretelling (predominant function of prophecy in the OT) and/or forthtelling-to declare what God is saying to edify and encourage the body of Christ. In the NT, forthtelling is common. You can speak truth over someone, yet they can deny it. Human beings have free will; therefore, not everyone walks into the destiny God has created for them.

All I’m saying is instead of judging why don’t you look in the Bible and pray and ask the Holy Spirit about your own heart and where it stands with the Lord. The Lord has a lot of warnings in the word of God how we should treat other Christians and even non Christians. Does this look like you are causing others to stumble and cause others confusion? Do you read the word of God. How do you know he doesn’t? Do you live with him? Do you follow him around 24/7?

Scripture says the test for a false prophet is iniquity in his life. If someone says, "Thus sayeth the Lord" and misses, no one ought to listen to what that prophet says. And, no one should give him a platform to preach, either.

Whoa! He actually gives a Biblical description of a false prophet and then goes on to describe himself, someone who has the spirit of divination. It's interesting also that he says 1) That just because a prophet gets it wrong doesn't make him a false prophet, and 2) Just because a prophet's predictions come true doesn't make him a true prophet. This man is evil, and when he teaches prophecy (as if it is something you can teach) he has students line up, ask the Holy Spirit to tell them the name of the mother of the person next to them, then turn and speak it out. THAT IS DIVINATION.

False prophets will always tell you, " all is well keep going!". When the ship is sinking. True prophets don't want the job, cause they have no friends and family. They've all turned away. He'll have one or two people who sold out for Lord. Anybody who says, " I'm a prophet". Is a false one. They've already failed cause they're in the way still to be used by God. We must decrease. All the men of God knew they were nothing and deserved Hell. The men now you see claiming to be something are just men earning a paycheck.

CRITERIA FOR TESTING THE SPIRITS (ALL PROPHECY SHOULD BE TESTED). No prophet of God can become great until he learns to “test the spirits” because there is always another voice that mimics that of God. To be a prophet, it is not always wise to depend totally on your natural gifts - you need training. This is because Satan is attacking the gifts. In the Bible, Elisha taught the sons of prophets (2 Kings 6: 1 -7). Natural gifts plus training is always the solution. Inexperienced prophets are always prone to deception. Here are some ways of testing the spirits: 1. Often a prophet will come up to you and say, “test the spirit with the spirit” and still make grievous mistakes. When you are given a prophecy always write it down and put the date beside it. In this way, you can always test a prophecy for accuracy. Prophets do not always remember what they say and are often liable to contradiction. Some are reluctant to have theirs forecasts written? However, the great biblical prophecies were all written down and able to withstand the most rigorous test of time. Many of the latter day prophecies fail to live up to this standard. 2. If you have trouble receiving a prophecy in your spirit there is a ikelihood that it may not be genuine. Every saved individual has unction from the Holy One which enables him to know (and test) all things (1 John 2:20). If someone gives you a prophecy, it should already confirm something in your spirit. If he gives you advise and you can’t carry it out, chances are it is a spirit of deception 3. All prophecy should glorify or point to God. If prophecy glorifiesman or caters to his fleshly desires it could be demonic. True prophecy always puts emphasis on the power of God in solvin problems and less on human self-effort - thus God is magnified. 4. Sometimes the prophecy is true, however, but the timing is wrong incarrying it out. That is a frequent failing among prophets. Always work within God’s framework of timing or else the prophecy could be aborted. In Ecclesiastes 3:1 it states, “To everything there is season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”5. Avoid false prophecies at all costs. Sometimes polluted prophecies have the power to hinder that which God has ordained in your life. A false prophecy can mean injury to your body or death to your anointing. When a prophet proclaims something that God did not tell him, immediately a demon of divination makes barren anything you try to do. Even though it is the right thing. For this reason God said “regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God” (Leviticus 19: 31).

  • @7pianoforte

    6. Sometimes a prophecy may have the appearance of a false prophecy when it is not. Most prophecies given to people are personal prophecies. The nature of these most times is conditional. That is they depend on your cooperation for them to come to pass. A large number of them do not come to pass because the recipient does not cooperate in the fulfillment of them. They may sometimes wait too long and act after the anointing has lifted 7. Another definition of a false prophet is one who uses the giftings of God to carry out their own purposes. 8. Again all prophecy should line up with scripture. If Bahamians are in the habit of prophesying death at certain times there may be a misunderstanding of the use of their gifts. A number of prophecies I have heard are breaking down prophecies. The inexperienced or wayward Christian should be mindful of the fact that “…he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort” (1 Corinthians 14: 3). 9. Beware of prophets that can tell you anything that your flesh wants to know. There are certain things that God even withholds from His true prophets because if He gave you what you wanted to know it could disrupt His prophetic plan for your life. Remember “ the secret things belong to the Lord our God” (Deuteronomy 29:29). 10.Always wait for confirmation in the mouths of two or three witnesses (Matthew18:16). Many prophets make prediction but there is nothing to confirm it afterwards. Sometimes they want you to act without confirmation. This is where confusion and disruption can occur. In this time of heavy deception God confirms his prophecies by physical sings and wonders or in the mouth of another Christian. This article was not written to cast aspersion or to bring prophecy into contempt because this movement is very essential in these last days. In 1 Thessalonians 5: 20 - 21 it reads, “ Despise not prophesyings. Prove all things; hold fast to that which is good.” The main object of this article to alert unwary Christians to the abundance of careless prophecies. You may find careless or inexperienced prophets in the grocery store; you may find them around the street corner. They may even be on your job. In other words, you may not know from whence they came. The best thing to do in a particular situation is to rely on your own unction and pray for confirmation. If you are in doubt, never be too quick to act. 41,131

In Acts 11, we are told Agabus prophesied of a famine. And, many others came and prophesied. Your statement, Kris, that Agabus did not attribute the cause of the famine to some sin is an assumption. Just because scripture does not mention it does not mean it did not occur. Further, since most of the great events ARE attributed to sin, it is reasonable to assume that was likely the reason. There are other reasons, yes. But, likely the world wide famine was due to sin, or part of God's long plan.

I think Kris is completely wrong about the Agubus prophecy. If you read the rest of Acts you 'll see in fact Paul is bound by the Jews and handed over to the Gentiles to be imprisoned by Felix and later appealed to Caesar to stand trial in Rome.. Gentiles. That's what Agubus was protesting.. not the immediate of being arrested by a condition and handed over to Jews.. But the overall picture. I think the accuracy of a prophecy is a determining factor in testing.Deuteronomy 18:22 is still Gods eternal word. ..

Paul lays out that all prophetic words should be judged, this shows that being a false prophet is absolutely not about if you are accurate. Obviously you want to be accurate but no one is 100% accurate in the prophetic, in fact there was one and only one prophet in the cannon of scripture in which God said that he would not let one of his words fall flat and that was Samual. Prophecy is something to mature in. By your dumb interjection it is clear that you have very little understanding of prophecy and prophetic protocol.

Maceo Viktorios '...You can get the word wrong, and not be a false prophet…' This is heretical in itself. The bible says: that a prophet who does not predict accurately is a false prophet. (the exact reference escapes me at the time of writing), Don't worry as Paul said that it '…says somewhere…', so even he had trouble remembering the exact place. Do you know of any bible prophets who got it 50% right? I certainly don't. I wonder if Kris Wallotton knows any? Actually psychics don't always get it right, many times they speak lies, as they have lying spirits. Actually Bill Johnson himself is a false teacher according the Philip L Powell, CWM. Check the internet and you will find many ministries that states fully that he is. Christian Witness Ministries is one source for example. Is Philip right? I don't know, but he makes a very convincing case in a recent issues of 'Contending Earnestly for Faith' magazine. My real problem with this video is that it is edited, but to be fair I've heard worse.
