FALLOW DEER RUT 2023 👀 EXCITED BUCK with 15 DOE'S in ESTRUS 👀 Dama dama

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

A Huge Excited Buck struts, postures, bellows and chases around 15 Doe's coming into Estrus and he wants to protect them and pass on his genes.
He hardly pauses as he warns rival Bucks and constantly checks each Doe.
Watching the build-up and the Buck's behaviour is fascinating.
Eventually the Doe will lift her tail and and signal to the Buck that she is ready to mate.

👀 FALLOW DEER STUDIES 👀
Previous studies have shown that male Fallow Deer, known as Bucks, can call for a mate more than 3000 times per hour during the Rut (peak of the mating season), and their efforts in all their calling, fighting off any challenging Bucks and mating can leave them somewhat tired and sounding hoarse.
Scientists studying this behaviour were able to gauge that Fallow Bucks listen to the sound quality of rival males' calls and evaluate how exhausted the caller is and whether they should fight or keep their distance.
Dr Benjamin Pitcher from Queen Mary's School of Biological and Chemical Sciences explained - "Fallow Bucks are among the most impressive vocal athletes of all deer and invest a large amount of time and energy in calling - Until recently we have known relatively little about who is listening to their calling, and what information they are hearing."
During the mating season, Fallow Bucks produce a call or groan, both to attract mates, and repel competing males. Groans contain numerous clues about each animal, such as their size and status in the herd. The researchers set up a series of playback experiments to investigate how the Bucks responded to changes in calling rates and vocal fatigue in the groans of their rivals.
The scientists played slow and fast rate groaning sounds, as well as groans from early in the rut, and ones from late in the rut (when Bucks are tired), to mature male Deer during the peak of the mating season. The speakers were hidden and scientists measured how long it took for the Deer to react to the calls, as well as their orientation, posture, and their calls in response.
The Deer were more responsive to fast rate groans than to slow rate groans indicating that Bucks signal their aggressiveness in how quickly they call. The Bucks also recognised groans from early in the rut, as more threatening than groans later in the rut. This shows that Bucks can detect when rivals are fatigued and that exhausted males pose less of a threat.
Dr. Pitcher added: "We know from this recent study that by detecting changes in calls, Bucks are able to judge which rival is most vulnerable to be challenged and when to fight."

Fantastic captures as always Jane. The Buck looked extremely busy! We’re in the New Forest currently and haven’t spotted one deer yet. 🤦🏻‍♂️. But it’s dreadful weather - the heathland and forest is very soggy or flooded so it’s been difficult to get far. The rain has been torrential. The Rut is over so we might just give up 😃😃 But you managed to get such brilliant footage.

Hi Dave and Sue, oh, he was so very busy, yes! I think if the day were 100 hours long, he would have still been chasing around trying to mate with all those females till way after dark, lol. Maybe your trip to the New Forest would have been much better, had it been around a month ago. Well, any woodland is awful if it has had a lot of rainfall and even worse if it is actually then raining more so, when you are actually there! Thank you as always for watching, my dear friends. 👍◕‿◕

Hi Brenda and Chris, it was great to see your numbers are all steady etc. ◕‿◕ This was as close as I have ever got to a group of Fallow Deer, helped by the wind direction and noise of the wind, as I was walking on crispy leaves and twigs etc but I wasn't in any hurry. If one single Deer spot you or even thinks you are there, it will 'bark' and alarm the herd, who will then run away and all would be on full alert. So, I was really happy once I had some footage and reached that 'anything else is a bonus' stage. But waiting and hoping to see mating Fallow Deer for the first time ever was a nervy thing, as it could have happened at any time, or i could have been spotted first. As it was, i was able to stay in one spot for around 2 hours and film through gaps in the trees in front of me. I may go back and try to see 'Fawning'. That's the only thing I have never seen with Deer. Thank you as always, my Deer friends. ( ͡ ͜ʖ ͡°)👍

Hi Craig, I forget things all the time on YT and in life itself lol. I've known about this place for around 6 years now after stumbling on it when out with hunt sabs. We'd actually gone to the wrong place, but there were around 10 or so Fallow Deer grazing in a field next to the large woodland. Almost every time since, I have seen Deer in there, but it's only a matter of time before I'm seen and they bark and scatter. This was the closest I have ever got to them and the big Buck helped by just being amongst all the Doe's and keeping them occupied. I didn't get there until after dinner on this day and they were at it when I arrived. So, I was very lucky, because I may not have got anywhere near them otherwise. I took a gamble with the thumbnail, as I've seen so many others similar with no problems this season. Let's hope the YT Gestapo have eased off a little. Mind you, I have noticed a 'huge' difference between mating Red Deer and mating Fallow Deer... you don't really 'see much' of the Fallow Bucks 'bits'. However, with the Red Deer Stag, it's full on 'lipstick' 💄 waving about and it must upset the Gestapo, lol. Good luck with the 'Shorties'. 💗🦉👀 I am jealous, as they are one of my fave' birds... hence my avatar circle thing. They remind me of a 'giant Moth' in flight. If you have a slow-mo setting on your camera and they are around for a while, include some slow-mo' footage as it looks amazing!

Hi Gaz, yes you are right, it was Buzzards calling. And it sounded very much like some sort of alarm call. I really wanted to look around and see what was happening at the time, but I honestly could not move as I was stood up at that moment, standing as still as I could and holding my breath as long as I could whilst I was filming the scenes as they were calling. They were still calling for a good 10 -15 minutes after that but when I did get the chance to actually turn my head, they were just out of sight. I can only think there was a threat to them from something, more than likely other birds. Maybe another Buzzard as I did not hear any Ravens or Crows etc (Corvids). But well spotted Gaz. Good morning to you. A hunting net? Is that a net for trapping the Deer? or some sort of divider?, like to keep them either in or out of any particular area? It is always a shame, but also a bit of a relief (for me) when the rutting season comes to an end, as it is so intense and full on for a few weeks. When not out there trying to film them, I am at home spending endless hours going through the footage and then making the videos and getting them out there for all to see, asap. Thank you for the interesting and nice comments my friend.... so what is 'a hunting net' then? 👍◕‿◕

Good morning my friend, it certainly helped that other Doe's were keeping their eyes on this randy Buck and not in all directions on full alert as they usually are. However, the wind was my biggest friend here. It was blowing dry leaves about, which masked the noise they make when you are treading on them, which usually gives your location away and spooks the Deer. Hi Rosco, well it all seemed to be going well for the first 8 days, flying up to around 250K views and days 6,7, & 8 getting around 60K / day. I thought it was going to kick on again, but the numbers dropped and instead of a peak of 7K / hour at the peak, it is down to around 450-750 / hour now. But many of my other videos were getting very good views too... like 40-50 different videos all getting at least 30 views / hour on top of the Deer videos all going better... now there is none of that and only a few other videos are getting any views whatsoever... like less than 10 / hour on about 5 videos, lol. Before #shorts came along, my £ rewards were over 300% higher! The shorts have killed YT for me personally. Having said all the above, I'm thankful for the sudden boost in numbers, plus around an extra 800 Subs. I think that is possibly my best ever thumbnail in the last 5 years or more? But it's like being a kid again at Christmas, staring at view counts and subs counts etc... how funny. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) My best bird videos get around £1 / thousand... but get little views, LOL. You will have a better idea, but for some weird reason, I don't think Deer videos are sought after by better paying advertisers? If the thumbnail or video showed any 💄waving about, the Gestapo would have dumped the ads and maybe age-restricted it by now. I wonder if they saw the mating Red Deer on Autumnwatch? Ads are on the video so getting the pennies.... if they end up covering my fuel I'll be happy... but for now, just a boost on numbers and subs is nice to see and I hope it continues and this video doesn't upset the Gestapo at any time.... I'm avoiding any scenes with 💄now, which is wrong really and sad, considering wild mating scenes are the ultimate capture in nature. I wonder if they would allow a Deer giving birth on? I wish we had Elk, Moose, Bears, Wolves etc here... but I wouldn't head into deep woodlands alone, lol.
