Something I also love about this series that I don't see a lot of ppl talking about is how it adheres to established BoS lore; specifically, the Chain That Binds. In the Brotherhood, orders can only be passed down from an officer to their immediate subordinates- i.e. a Paladin cannot order an initiate to do something; they have to order a knight to give the order instead. Throughout the video, Head Paladin MacNamara(?) always gives the orders to his direct subordinate, who then passes the orders on to the paladins on the line. It's little details like this that make this animation special.

I’m fairly sure a paladin can order an initiate if he had specific instructions for that individual. But in combat like this, yes, commanders need to focus on the bigger pictures while the subordinates in charge handle the details and direct their troops to make it happen.

Man, if nothing else, this series illustrates what a competent tactician Elder McNamara is, and furthermore, what an intensely vulnerable position Elder Elijah put the Mojave Chapter of the Brotherhood in by ordering they concentrate their forces around a largely indefensible objective. The fact that McNamara (who I assume is the Paladin with the red-accented armor) and to a lesser extent Hardin (who I assume is the yellow-accented paladin), were together able to mount an effective defense of HELIOS despite the NCR's superior numbers, position, logistical support, and tactical freedom is astonishing. What's even more astonishing though is that these two were ALSO (according to the story that's related in game) able to mount a successful retreat/evacuation from HELIOS following the collapse of that defense--ably shephering non-combat units like Scribes, children (like Veronica), and others safely to Hidden Valley and setting up there. Honestly, the fact that the Brotherhood wasn't entirely wiped out at Helios is a testament to McNamara's ingenuity in and of itself. But the fact that he was further able to mount an effective defense? Wow. Fantastic job SODAZ, so cool to see a fanmade production that really builds on the setting and characters in FNV, and makes it all so much more viscerally real and intense!

Just when you think the NCR has the Brotherhood's number, they bring out the big guns onto the field. This back-and-forth struggle between the two factions is outstanding, and I cannot wait for the NCR to respond with the Rangers against the Sentry Bots & remaining BOS elements. BOS is fighting til the bitter end. Excellent job, SODAZ! Edit for Fallout Lore: The Sentry Bots likely gave some elements of the BOS sect to break out from Helios One, given that the battle was already turning against them badly as the NCR adapted and outflanked BOS tactics, and thus, why the BOS in this scene is charging forward seeing that both flanks were somewhat holding yet unsustainable against the NCR's double envelopment around the front BOS line. Reason behind the idea of attacking the NCR by BOS: The BOS leader believes that charging forward would relieve the pressure on the flanks and scatter the NCR's morale & cohesion. However, the battle is already moot as the NCR has the Rangers to counteract this BOS charge. (NCR was always one step ahead of their opponent in this particular battle) The BOS was already in a terrible, defensible tactical position, so the BOS file & rank knew that it was only a matter of time before they fell if they stayed where they were. Sentry Bots have two primary weaknesses: overheating from prolonged combat use and potentially accurate hits/high-caliber rounds on their fusion cores in the rear (or potentially anti-material rounds that could penetrate the front near critical weak points while the bot overheats) of their armor. NCR/Rangers could exploit one or both of these weaknesses. My Personal Observation/possible idea of attack by the NCR in the following production: The high ground on the BOS's exposed right flank presents a potential opportunity for NCR Rangers with high-caliber rifles to exploit and eliminate the Sentry Bots/bypass their heaviest armor in the front attacking their rear at the fusion cores/exposed overheating during combat if they can neutralize the 3 BOS Power Armor troops that already are isolated (jet packs are damaged) from the rest of the Brotherhood. Given their power armor and technical expertise, the BOS is really good at holding and attacking in frontal assaults, but not when faced with a very cunning opponent who exploits their flanks and rear alongside the dependency & limitations/weaknesses of technology in Fallout. This is where they start showing flaws in their strategies when their rivals analyze and adjust to their battle tactics. Historial Anology: It's almost similar to how the North Vietnamese during the battle of the La Drang Valley in 1965 interpreted the strengths & weaknesses of US armed forces to where they adapted to their tactics over time in Vietnam - Helios One militarily somewhat resembles the La Drang battle given that the Americans had a very fragile line of defense similar to the BOS's at Helios. After 2 days of violent attrition, the Americans chose to charge their enemy when all options were exhausted after knowing that staying where they were would meet utter defeat with such a thin line of men. A good defense is a good offense when the flanks are very unstable & units are isolated due to the enemy's movements/growing manpower. Still, the BOS indeed go down fighting honorably in grand military fashion and glory at Helios, which is why we all love both these factions in Fallout. Whether through the overheating and slow disrepair of the Sentry Bots in combat and/or Ranger intervention to eliminate the bots and stop this BOS charge, the conclusion of this Helios One production will be truly epic for fans of this beloved series. Thanks for all the likes and comments.

In my opinion this battle is already lost. The Mojave BoS do not have the numbers nor the ammunition to hold Helios One indefinitely. If the NCR continue to attack, or even to just surround, lay siege and prevent supplies or reinforcements (assuming the BoS even HAVE any...) to get through, then the fall of Helios One is inevitable. The Brotherhood cannot hold this area, and have to retreat. I look forward to seeing how McNamara is going to accomplish that.

1:05 I like that this series has made Helios 1 a gold mine of tech and data, both in hardware and software, and thus of insane value to the Brotherhood beyond whatever vague thing Elijah sold to make the deployment happen. And I _love_ the detail that we can still see the Sentry Bots firing off more artillery-rockets as they're laying down primary fire. It actually does a good job of reinforcing why "If we reactivate the prototypes, we won't get the data" was a genuine sacrifice, but still seen as a necessary one to the Brotherhood. Robots that can fuse different aspects of combined-arms warfare would have been what made the biggest differences on the battlefield, and Sentry Bots are a great example of that. I recently learned about the Battle of Gazala in North Africa in mid-1942. The British (and New Zealander, Australian, South African, Indian and French) troops were brave, but the British commanders were horribly incompetent. Sending tanks forward without infantry or artillery support, over and over and over again. Napoleon Bonaparte himself said that no unit can operate alone without support from other units; that infantry, cavalry and artillery are not more or less important than each other. The commanders of the NCR force in Operation Sunburst seem to know what they are doing, considering the tactics they are implementing to encircle, trap and ultimately destroy the Brotherhood force. It's not just about taking Helios One; this is about destroying the Mojave BoS.

All because the Russian commanders, first, sent in ONLY infantry. Then ONLY tanks. Third time was the charm, and after the previous two generals were executed for incompetence, the third offensive finally saw them use infantry and tanks in tandem and brutally put down the Finns. Unfortunately for the Brotherhood, yes, the sentry bots are terrifying, but in this battle they have only managed to temporarily throw the NCR force back. If the Brotherhood cannot bring in reinforcements and supplies to bolster the defense of Helios One - and by that I mean steady and constant resupply, troop relief and troop rotation - then they have no hope of holding onto the facility. I personally believe that this battle was lost for the Brotherhood before it even started. Tactics and superior technology can win battles, but it is logistics, supply and economies that win wars.
