Fallout's Deadly New Plague | Fallout Lore

Ойындар

In 2053 Pre-War America was experiencing an epidemic, no one knew exactly where this mysterious disease came from but people were getting sick. And this led to scientists discovering that the disease, soon to be called The New Plague, would no matter what, eventually kill the infected which led to the very first nationwide lockdown. America had closed its borders to the outside world while their scientists tried to figure out how to cure The New Plague. Within a year thousands had died and they were no closer to finding a cure but they did develop literature in the hopes of preventing the disease from spreading any further. And for that to happen people needed to know what to watch out for, what did someone with The New Plague look like? Well, according to the experts the symptoms were profuse sweating, followed by unexplained contusions and swelling, before ending with external haemorrhaging and death, as well as the additional symptom of expressing new ideals such as socialism. I don’t really think socialism and The New Plague were connected, not physically anyway, but it was a great way for the US Government to register any communist or potential spy. So, now people knew what to watch out for, but what should they do in the event they were to see someone displaying one or more of these symptoms? Well, all they had to remember was the acronym C.I.R. Confirm Symptoms, Isolate and Report. Therefore, you’re walking down the street and you see someone showing the tell-tale signs, the first thing you had to then do was confirm the symptoms. Now if no Civil or Medical professional was available to do that then it was up to you to do it instead. Meaning, you now had to go up to that person and confirm that they had The New Plague, if they didn’t then you just went on with your day, but if they did, that now meant you had just come into contact with The New Plague and now both of you needed to isolate from the general population as The New Plague was notoriously contagious. The third and final step was to report directly to the nearest Federal Fitness Registry or Medical Centre and let the professionals take it from there. Now reporting directly sounds like you had to pay them a physical visit, which would mean leaving isolation, passing other people, potentially infecting them as well, so the professionals could take a look at you and your condition, which kind of defeats the purpose of isolating in the first place. Although these so called “professionals” were kind enough to tell people how to protect themselves from The New Plague, which wasn’t much. Now The New Plague, as we know is a social disease, meaning it is especially contagious during social interactions. So the only way to protect yourself was to avoid social interactions, ice cream socials, cruising main street, promiscuous activities such as sodomy and attending fairs or festivals. Instead why not stay at home, enjoy a light novel and a home cooked meal. But then again these professionals said that if you were infected then to get yourself back outside and pass who knows how many other people just so they can take a look at you. It doesn’t make any sense, but there is a reason.

    I really hope we get some pre-war stories in a comic book, TV series, or even a video game. Obviously we all love the apocalypse madness but the prewar era sounds very interesting. So far all we got was the Fallout 4 intro(which was amazing) but The main idea of the F4 intro was “living in denial”. In other words it feels like the people in the neighborhood(and even the news reporters on Nates TV) were kind of blocking out the problems of the world & allowing themselves to listen to the lies of the corrupt government. “everything is just fine, go to the park, go to the baseball game, we are handling the plague, everything is fine in the war” then BOOM 💥 mushroom clouds.

Makes me think the people in this universe were slightly insane possibly due to real life situations such as lead in the water pipes or something like in ancient rome

    Did Fallout lore ever explain why 10mm is ubiquitous and 9mm is unobtainium?

  • @ryetoaster

    @ryetoaster

    27 күн бұрын

    I've wondered this myself. I don't think there is a lore reason but it does fit the retrofuturistic setting. In the 1950s world War era weapons were still the most commonplace weapons and they tend to use big powerful rounds like .45 and 30.06. Additionally, cowboy stuff was very popular in the 50s which is why cowboy guns are so common. 10mm auto would fit this trend towards larger more powerful rounds. This also helps explain why armalite rifles are so hard to come by despite being invented in the 50s: armalites are associated with the cold war era for most Americans. I really think it comes down to the retrofuturistic setting.

    @@DracoSafarius Oh yes, I know what you mean. I assumed that the was just a decaying brahim and never actually looked at it closely. But you’ve gone and gotten me curious now. I even remember thinking vaguely that it was weird because Bethesda has never really bothered with decaying bodies before. It’s either 200+ year old skeletons, skeletons with a bit of blood on them or bodies that look fresh like they’ve only been there a few days even when the lore implies it’s been weeks or months. I don’t recall the decaying Brahmin asset being used anywhere else in FO4. And my memory might be a bit off but isn’t Taffington pretty close to Med Tek? Fortunately last time I played FO4 a few weeks ago I’d made a fairly new character that I’m 80% sure hasn’t been to Taffington yet. Tomorrow I’ll play the game, load his file and have him go over and claim it as a settlement for the Minutemen. Normally I wouldn’t claim it at this point in the game, but now I’m curious and I’m going to take a closer look and see if it really does have the blue boils while I work on making the settlement livable and get the beacon going.

    If we ever get another Fallout Game Id like to explore things from the Chinese Prospective. Maybe we'd finally get a concrete answer as to who sent the first Bomb Flying. Or maybe we could play as a Member of the U.S. Government and we could find out what they knew about the war and what the Relationship between The Government and Vault Tech was really like. I wonder if the Government knew about Vault Tech's intentions to Experiment with the People in the Vaults or if they just went Rouge and could do what they pleased with the Survivors.

    I saw New Plague at a grocery store in New Vegas yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
