    34:27 that's actually a retcon from Fallout 4. In traditional (Interplay) Fallout lore, plastic is tremendously expensive due to the oil shortage; thus energy weapons are made of metal as well, as can be seen from their models.

  • @killean2645

    @killean2645

    4 жыл бұрын

    Aren't the institute weapons the only one made out of plastic anyway? Every other energy weapon in FO4 should be made out of normal metal. It's only the institute rifles that are plastic, due to easy mass production for their giant disposable Synth army.

  • @BradTheAmerican

    @BradTheAmerican

    4 жыл бұрын

    I don't see how that's a retcon. Just because it is expensive and thus metal energy weapons were utilized in one particular location, that doesn't mean all guns everywhere have to be. Especially given that the Commonwealth is noted as being a technological haven with access to better resources. And then there's the fact that not all plastic is oil based. In regard to the Institute, they literally make synthetic people so synthetic polymers should be no problem. Another reason why it doesn't matter what Fallout 1 & 2 energy weapons were made out of is that many of the guns you see in Fallout 3, NV, and 4 aren't even the same exact guns. And even if they were, it's possible to have different manufacturers using different materials and methods.

  • @BraUnY74

    @BraUnY74

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@BradTheAmerican There are some of the Fallout 1/2 guns (10mm, That Gun, Plasma Casters, and so on) in NV. And oil shortage was actually a bit of a global issue, not localized to East Coast, which eventually lead to Resource Wars (EU vs Middle East) and The Great War. I do agree, that Institute probably had access to non-oil based plastic, but there's also plenty of plastic found in scrap.

  • @cthulhucat8729

    @cthulhucat8729

    2 жыл бұрын

    Even though it's been two years since this reply, I felt it worth it to add in my two cents here. Plastic is both electrically and thermally insulating in comparison to metal, so it would make sense that it would be used in energy weaponry where the need to contain a controlled and directed explosion doesn't exist, and with the oil shortage going on, I would also predict that the U.S. could have been researching alternative polymers even before the Great War; they just didn't get very far before the end.

  • @romanw6636

    @romanw6636

    That is absolutely ridiculous - no one is going to use oil derived plastics in weapons that are to be used in the oil wars. What's more, we have plenty of non-plastic insulators like asbestos, glass, etc so why would you use the one material you don't have?

    According to Josh Sawyer, the reason we can tell Veronica about Elijah and not Christine is that Elijah was originally supposed to show in in the base game, so they just repurposed the dialogue they already had Felicia Day record. They didn't know they were going to use Christine in the DLC, and it would have been too expensive to bring her in just to record one or two new lines. It's actually WAY more powerful than Veronica gives it credit for. It's artillery with unlimited maximum range and no minimum range. It's easier to defend because it doesn't have to move, and apart from defending and maintaining it, there are no logistics requirements - they don't have to transport or source ammo for it. I feel like the importance of this really can't be overstated - they could fire this thing at someone in the Capital Wasteland or the Commonwealth, and the only thing they have to relocate is the targeting device. It's pinpoint accurate, and the time between request and detonation is only a few seconds, making it potentially very useful against a mobile target like Liberty Prime. You could target someone on the Strip with this without worrying that you'll miss by a little and blow up an entire casino full of civilians, and no one will know it was you because it's silent, looks like a toy, and there's no visual connection between you and what happened. Someone in a vertibird could use this to target basically anything within the vertibird's flight range, giving it massive firepower without actually having to carry big, heavy bombs. "Marginally more effective" my ass!

    I have played ahead a little, here's how it worked out: I have discovered why certain implants are unavailable: the SPECIAL I made natural 10s at character creation remain unimprovable. I have therefore gotten a charisma implant and then used console commands to change the bonus to strength. I don't consider using the console to fix issues incurred via console cheating. Guns have worked out great - I don't see why people where saying to use energy instead, they both get the job done. In case there was any confusion about Finesse: It works just like +5 Luck for the purposes of critical calculation only. I have gotten the perk, with my current guns (Maria / Paciencia) it gets me +10% crit for a total of 24% (1% base luck, 1% lucky shades, 5% beret). Far from guaranteed, but enough to make a difference. My build up to level 8 was +1 INT, +1 INT, [INT implant], Comprehension, Educated. It was a very grindy start, but the extra skillpoints make a big difference. My char starts feeling normal if slightly underleveled, despite being overleveled. I delayed Ghost Town Gunfight in order to pass all the skillchecks. The added benefit was the ability to deploy Satchel Charges. 4 of them were sufficient to decide the fight before it really started. Other than that my favorite craftables have been bloatfly slider and black coffee. I am collecting a ton of stuff in my Novac motel room to do a major crafting session soon. edit: terribly sorry, somehow this comment turned out in tripplet.

    Jon although I'm fairly certain you know this but Euclid's C Finder is NOTORIOUSLY buggy. You sometimes get ammo instantly again, sometimes you just won't get ammo for the rest of the game, sometimes it wont fire and sometimes it fires totally randomly or just breaks and can't be used again. I'd recommend a mod to fix it but you do what you think is best just be careful with it lol

    Of the things you list, only really Caravan would take significant time to implement, and I guess it actually didn't after they implemented Blackjack. The weapon modding system is extremely simple, you have to make a model for each permutation of installed mods, and it just swaps the entire model. I wish they put more time into it, it would've made adding mods significantly easier, and not limit you to 3 mods on each weapon.

Doubt you'll read this but I wonder if there is a "recruit any NPC as a follower" mod you could install on your new Tale of Two Wastelands when you eventually get to the strip, which will allow you to recruit this gentleman and then immediately send him to wait at the Lucky 38 to enjoy the path of the sot on House's dime

    I’d recommend the ratslayer in the broc flower cave for an early game sniper, it’s guns and strength requirement are that of a varmint rifle, but it’s got a scope and silencer, extra crit chance, and extra damage, and getting it isn’t difficult at all, you can get it before you’ve even reached Novac and it’s quite good
