People also say it's entirely optional. (You need to take the wild wasteland perk for any of this to even show up) Bethesda took that personally and made it mandatory. edit: Okay, i've been informed that the wild wacky stupid nonsense is in fact the main story quest, not easter eggs or reference humor. Oops.

The fact that they had 18 months to make this game and they dedicated time to wacky Easter eggs that only occur IF you take the perk is wild

More accurate is to say that this perk was kinda compromise between developers who wanted to add some weird funny non canon content and others creators who didn’t. So the came up with idea adding these content as a perk

You forgot the part in lonesome road ending cards, where if you decide to nuke long 15, the rangers and troopers NCR monument will be half buried in sand and a trooper is on his knees, referencing planet of the apes

More saliently: With how absolutely disastrous the writing and quest design for Fo3 and 4 is, how would you *tell* which are the jokes and which are supposed to be played straight? Fo4 has, in no particular order a ghoul child trapped in a fridge for 200 years. a hardboiled detective (from the wrong era) downloaded into a robot, tracking down his ghoul nemesis that murdered his GF A crew of crazy robots driving a ancient age-of-sail ship by mounting rocket engines to it a super mutant looking for the milk of human kindness a small child merchant with a sentry-bot bodyguard A super-mutant-behemoth wearing a swan boat as a hat. A man tending a bar in the middle of nowhere Dead brahmin crushed under a fridge (random spawn, if someone can explain that, go ahead) And far too many more to list...

The Crusoe encounter could also be a reference to the old original pink panther movie. In the movies detective Clusoe is tasked with finding the pink panther which is a rare diamond. The movie is a comedy and sees Clusoe being hilariously inept and bad at being a detective, hence the "bad detective" reference.

It's none of these things. I'm actually surprised everyone is getting this wrong considering the book it's referencing is a literary classic. The book Robinson CRUSOE, is about a man who ends up stranded on an island of cannibals...you know...like the White Glove Society.

My dumb self somehow thought New Vegas came before Fallout 3. I can still remember the confusion on the GameStop employee's face when I asked for the "new fallout" and he handed me NV and I said blunty afterwards "no, the newer one."

Really speaks to the influence of pop culture when you're not exactly 100% familiar with a lot of these source materials but you can still place a somewhat accurate guess of their references.

I appreciate that you included the alternatives for each encounter if possible. I like seeing the differences between perkless and perk, not just the encounters

I have never considered not taking the trait. It's worth it for the alien blaster alone.

Like Crystal Skull, if I guessed, I would have thought it was older than the 4th Indiana Jones film, despite the reference clearly putting it after.

He calls them Donnie and Marie, which is a reference to Donnie & Marie.

something about Cookie Monster having his own easter egg in Fallout of all games, seems surprisingly and weirdly fitting

since playing this game non stop since it came out, I have chosen WWL every single time, so this video is very nice since I had no idea half of these where WWL events, especially the mr new vegas one.

I've always appreciated the variety WW would provide for your courier as a character. Like yeah, the dude is a combat monster on two feet, and he's got a kickass taste in music, but he swears that he talked to a dog and killed some aliens.

I forget where it is but in lonesome road on a wall you can find an ash outline of a person which is a looney toons reference

the skeleton with the hat and the dog with glasses has always reminded me of JoJos part 3, the skeletons hat looks like Joseph's and the dog looks like Iggy

New Vegas was just incredible.

That ambient bell music around 14:00 is very creepy. Awesome stuff.

It's a soundtrack from FO1, in one of the final locations, the cathedral. FNV used a lot of soundtracks from FO1 and FO2, and they fit perfectly

21:04 Try Guest as password is a reference to the Cartoon Show "Archer" where the secret service the protagonist works always uses Guest as Password for their PC´s. Also it is a running gag tru the whole series. Idk what occasion in game it is, but the first appearance of that joke is in the pilot episode of archer where he needs the Password to enter the Mainframe of his own Agency. So maybe even the Welcome to the Mainframe is a little reference to Archer.

It just makes the game feel a lil more like Fallout 2 and I like it for that. Honestly, I just hate not using it as often because I like both my trait slots. However! I realized you can console command it in after leaving the docs place so I would recommend that as well for people. It's not an unfair advantage imo

I took this perk the 2 times I played NV. So, besides the perk icon popping up, I didn't knew what changed

another fun fact with the trauma suits, In one of Capaldi's episodes "oxygen" the main physical antagonist are basically trauma suits that hijack the dead/dying bodies of the workers wearing them.

I know this is probably not actually the case but I assumed Crusoe to be a reference to Inspector Clouseau rather than CSI Miami. But meme culture probably wins that fight.

It’s actually possible to kill the dogs playing poker. I did a no kill run of big mt and a securitron somehow made its way in the room on my second quest in the building. I’m unsure if it glitches in there or it’s intentional

This was new concept to me, it was as the name suggested wild ! though sadly i did know little of the references but like Obsidian said, the jokes are there for those who understand and to those who don't, it won't look out of place still.

theres only one other trait worth taking and its not as good as either of those so

Awesome video, I always take the perk as it makes for some funny moments, my only criticism is: I think the skull w/ the hat is-- like you showed in the first encounter, is just like a Fedora or Indiana Jones himself from the first encounter. Not sure but it def doesn't look like a Brown Round. Either way, good stuff and it prob took a good amount of time and effort making this video so fuckin thumbs up.

Honestly it has always been my fav perk, and I am one of those players who always uses it.. Even for the first time playing said game. I was soo disappointed with Fallout 4 not having it.

The wild wasteland perk is strange on the ps3 version with all DLC ..Just last few weeks ago in some random buildings - it would make the sound a the image in the corner but - nothing was actually there searching the Room + others close ... i think it was glitched lol

With the way things are, Wild Wasteland just seems to be their normal type of humor. So not taking it would be still as weird, but maybe, an idea for a mod perk? Take "Less Wild Wasteland" and it makes the wasteland more civilized and normal.

The only problem with WW is you lose the unique gauss rifle

you missed one, unless its not a wild wasteland thing. tumbleweed ranch. a nightkin will approach you and ask if you want to buy his cattle. you say yes, and he'll take every single cap you have. course you can kill him to get it back

If you play the game without the WW perk you miss out on a lot of the game the only reason i don't play with it if for the YCS186 Gauss rifle
