The Radium Rifle is a Volksturmgewehr. A semi automatic only rifle that is really hard to disassemble since it was made to have as little moving parts as possible. Its plausible that the Children of Atom reverse engineered it because you can probably make it in your garage given how simple it is.

Question is why did Bethesda use it in the first place. Not many were built so add one in the US would only make sense of it was a unique, something like the M2 Carbine would work better as it’s was made in much larger numbers and there plenty of them from the Pacific Islands going east to Europe

I really do love the laser musket in concept, in being a makeshift weapon in an apocalyptic setting, while also fitting the nature of the minutemen, both in the historical sense as an analog to the musket and in being a scrappy sort of militia putting together what they have to meet their needs. Fun Fact: The reason, or one of the reasons, there are so many left handed guns is 'cause the artist who did the guns for the original Counter Strike was left handed and modeled the weapons as such. Since then any weapons that used those CS weapons as reference also turned out left handed. Sometimes people even did it on purpose as a nod to the artist. Seeing as the two weapons that do this FO4 are the AK and the Hunting Rifle, which just a generic bolt action, leads me to believe that they used CS models as reference material. If you get a good drop like an explosive combat shotgun or a never-ending double barrel it can be absolutely game changing. I find the random legendary drops can add *a lot* of character to a playthrough, especially if obtained relatively early. I think a good solution would’ve been if Bethesda made all the named legendaries you get from quests, vendors, and obscure locations have unique appearances, that would’ve allowed them to keep the legendary system and would’ve given us a plethora of truly unique gear to deck out our characters with.

You didnt mention it, but the sound of the 44 revolver in FO4 is AWESOME! I think all the pipe weapons fit the "fit the world" since the reason they are weird and awkward is because they are (as you can easily tell) handcrafted scrapy low quality guns with a tone of room for modification. This is archived perfectly in concept and in practice, but they are terrible within the game progresion since durability isnt a thing and you outscale them at min 2 when you get the handcannon that is the 10mm, in the vault (you can play the entire game up to any level with just the 10mm and be fine, one shotting most enemies), with ammo being the only problem but not really if you dont make it a submachinegun. I think the problem with the animations was that they wanted to have all guns be on the same side, the bottom right corner. I dont know about how being X handed looks with 2 handed rifles (apparently you carry them on the opposite shoulder is what im taking from the video?), but they must have had someone load the guns for the animation and model them, and decided that they wanted to change the shoulder instead of fliping them? Radium Rifle is based on the Volksturmgewehr (and I actually never noticed it was based on that until now, good eye!) German last ditch weapon thrown out towards the end of WW2 and put in the hands of the Volksturm (Basically a militia of whoever they could scrape up to fight at the end of the war)
"I don't think you could make a automatic pipe weapon." The Sten: *exists*
The pipe bolt action was probably intended to be a single shot but got changed somewhere in the development, probably pretty late on judging by way it uses a revolver style full moon clip for it's reload animation. That said the pipe bolt action is a monster in VATS. If you've never tried it with a pistol build it can get nearly as many shots off in a round of VATS as the Deliverer but does more damage per shot so, depending on the upgrades (stay clear of telescopic sights or long heavy barrels), it can do more damage in a round of VATS than the Deliverer.
I think the problem with the hunting rifle is because whoever made the weapon on the development team just didn’t know how bow bolt action firearms are used. The energy weapons look amazing and work well I just hate how much of the screen they take up in the games.

why do people throw a hissy fit over it not being called specifically a LMG? do the game really has to spit it out to you? have you never seen the true eyes of a basilisk in dark souls? it's really not a big deal, if you can use your eyes to realize the truth. idk its very silly when its obviously a lmg but it isnt that big of a deal because i use power armor and the gun does look good you guys just cant appreciate cool stuff like in gears of war the lancer has no stock even though it probably should in the so they made on for the mk3 model i think fallout 4 has cool designs and its very sad to see many people just fall back to boring real world designs because they make sense, fallout does not need sense because it will look cool and can be explained through different technology so it works

@@cralo2569I mean. Wouldn’t it be kinda weird if a game started calling a Pistol a Rifle? Or if they called the Combat Knife a Combat Sword? Same with the Assault not being called an LMG.
I love how when describing what pipe weapons you think would fit the universe you just explained the 7DtD pipe weapons. The Fun Pimps did such a good job on those
I always liked the jam random junk together weapons because a lot of weapons have been through a nuclear blast and are either destroyed or did survive but would definitely be rusted after a few years. Also I think they’re maybe different because it’s just different states that will be mostly far apart to actually have the same sorta sense to build their gun like others. That’s just what I think when a weapon goes through an apocalypse.
Pls someone help me out here. What performance mods he is running that his game is running this smoothly inside city? 🙏
I believe there’s a random encounter in fallout where someone has a junk jet in the Westland

I like the Assault Rifle because it just look cute and better than the boring AR-15 type of weapon If they wanted Assault Rifle, make it at least with something unique in our world Like the AR in Fallout 3, it just look so better than any boring black rifle that people use to death
Ive been following this channel for the New Vegas lists, and now i cant get enough.
I was pretty sure N99 10mm pistol was made as a sidearm for troops in power armor and i am glad i was not wrong, that does make sense when you look at size of that thing and its form, but developers scraped that idea and made that monstrosity main police/vault guard/army gun for shit and giggles.
I'd prefer the firearms to be more like dayz in both design and function. Condition, wear, actually unpacking and loading rounds. You could find a great rifle but no mag. For the fictional, handmade weapons, the gunners would be perfect. They manufacture and distribute. They could be this world's gun runners if you can get on their good side. If you want to be on their good side Given their origin, it makes sense.

That would be a whole lot better.
You know what FO4 was missing? An institute version of the mesmetron, Similar to the slaver gun in FO3 but it would send people to the institute to be turned into synths, it would have given you both an additional evil playthrough and roll to fulfill with them in endgame.
The Fallout universe’s big nuclear war was in 2077 not the 1950s. The culture just continued and never progressed. Just FYI.
The combat rifle gets me the most. It looks like some sort of hobbyist rifle, not cut out for military use. Then on top of that it comes chambered in .45 which wouldn’t be an issue if the magazine weren’t so damn wide.
I always found it interesting that in Fallout 4 the protagonist always fires the revolvers in single action. I don't think it's unrealistic, assuming both protagonist options were used to handling firearms, since firing single action can typically improve a person's accuracy.
Honestly, a Vietnam pattern M16 is a fine replacement for the AR
I'm a left-handed marksman. They absolutely manufacture left-handed rifles. Edit: If Dirty Harry can use a harpoon gun, then it's perfect! Lol!

Yeah I don't have a problem with it being left handed more that your person doesn't use it left handed. Also agree with the Harpoon Gun.
Now would your opinion on the assault rifle change if it was called a machine gun like originally intended
I like how he talks about “why would the maxim still be used” Like brother the maxim machine gun was made in 1884 and is still being used today in 2023 Also the Maxim was used extensively in the LMG roll throughout the Second World War and other conflicts the soviets were involved in. So that’s why it would still be used…. Cause… it was Like it being converted into as assault rifle is valid but still.

That's a fair point from recent events. Still seems pretty strange for the US to have made this into the assault rifle and not something like the BAR.

Incidentally, the world of Fallout is not the 1950's, but a stylized retro-future 2050's. Notice the Atomic cars, prevalence of nukes and advanced robotics? That is how the world would look if we had embraced all things nuclear for 100 years.
i love how on the AR you say we had the BAR in nv and forget the combat rifle is the BAR essentially when you put proper upgrades on it
The thing that always pisses me off with the pipe rifles is those iron sights or starting sights whatever they’re called. God they suck so much having it off center like that. I always immediately put a glow sight and an extended mag on it to make a fairly good looking budget type 100
The ten mm pistol was a volt weapon that was meant to be modified to be used in any situation for a person who is stuck in a vault and have to deal with the world outside of it
i use mods to replace a good chunk of the weapons with their classic (fallout 1 / 2) versions, and this is exactly why
@ReapeeRon

Fair.
I wish there was a manufacturer’s guns for the .38 ammo, not all different type of pipe guns
Been playing an energy gunslinger and man it really sucks that if you use anything more than the short barrel the pistols become like 3 feet long which would be really awkward as a pistol. This is coming from one of the few people that love the bulky institute lasers but mainly and big rifles.
Fallout 4 is my favorite game of the series, but one major problem it has are the weapons in the game. I wish Fallout 4 should of added the weapons from New Vegas. I like how in New Vegas have many modern modern and old school weapons. The same problem with New Vegas no suppressors on the 9mm pistols. Both games have there ups and downs.
the only reason I think the junk jet doesn't work is because of the size of the end of the barrel there's now way you can shoot a globe coming out of it maybe it would work but it would have to be up kept like crazy and the size of junk would depend on how often you fix it
Pipe guns are horribles...assault rifle's barrel seems a boiler and i hate how a lot of heavy weapons (such as minigun) lost their back-mouted ammunition box...
I would love the handmade rifle... If the ammo wasn't stupid hard to find. Literally having to go to Nuka World to buy/find it is beyond annoying, specially in Survival. Idk why they didn't just let it spawn normally with the add on

Yeah that would be fine for you!
The pipe revolver should be hurts my eyes tier. One reason is you can chamber it in 308, and bottleneck catriges don’t work in revolvers. Thats why every magnum round is long and tubular. Second reason is the gases would burn your arm whenever you hold the gun infront of the wheel. Third is revolvers require precise timing to function and work properly in the internals. Think of it like a watch. The notches on the cylinder have to align with the hand inside perfectly in order to rotate and function. Any gun nut in development would’ve sniffed this out and axed such a weapon.
I have always loved the plasma rifle's in fallout, especially the one in 4 due to how much you can change the look
My issue with the revolver is it doesn't have a firing pin. And as such shouldn't work. This is most likely because they modeled it off of a deactivated revolver probably from a museum. But that no one noticed and it still looks like that bothers me.
The combat rifle is cambered in pistol ammo by defaulf for some reason... the mag is chambered in rifle, assuming 5.56 and it ejects spent 10mm rounds upon firing. This gun has a lot of issues
There a lot of mods that remove the laser muskets need for ammo.
I think the reason why some of the guns are left handed is because video games have different priorities from real guns. With a real gun, you want it to be unobtrusive. Seeing the rounds ejecting is a nuisance at best. But in a video game? Seeing the round lets your brain think "I it is doing the gun thing. I see it doing the gun thing". It is trying to use visual language to say things to us, even if it has to do so by doing things that we normally wouldn't need to hear.
The .44 revolver is missing the firing pin and is based on a double action but your character always fires it single action.
I bought fallout 4 when it came out, I have never seen or heard of the tesla gun, where the heck is it even from?
My issue with the combat shotgun is that it looks just like the combat rifle. It's really hard to tell them apart and you can tell that the designers weren't even trying, they just used the same model with maybe a couple of minor details. The Assault Rifle should have been a SAW and renamed to light machine gun. It makes no sense to give powered armoured troops assault rifles anyway as you'd want to give them heavier weapons to capitalize on the increased strength that PA gives the wearer. They should really be carrying around SAWs and M2s as standard infantry weapons, Jin Roh style.
The thing is... I don't mind the combat shotgun? I do wish we had a HUNTING shotgun alongside it and that it had an option to maybe either automatic or pump-action since it is something made for the army and in my opinion is something that makes sense, but other than that, I don't have too much of an issue with it, and I can see the US army taking the design of the KS-23 (which is honestly what it looks like the most to me), and modifying the design for their own troops, as I'm pretty sure that there's some weapons in our current military that the contractors or whatever have done that with-
i have only played 4 and am still going through it i remember when i was 4or 5 my dad playing it now i am playing it (with him telling me were the stuf is)
I pretty much agree with every choice you made except for... the assault rifle. Yeah I'm gonna get some flak for this but it's one of my favorite looking guns, however it really does not fit into the game's world with its design. I really like weird bulky guns though so I'd put it quite a bit higher, around "Fine" if it wasn't in a Fallout game. I wish they did something else with it entirely and have an actual, you know, assault rifle in its place and it turned into an LMG type gun which the game really lacks anyway. It kinda tracks though, as this gun was actually the first working gun they got into the game and experimented with the attachment system and was actually meant to be used entire by Power Armor users, so I guess they weren't really sure of where the game's art style would go but kept it cause they already worked on it so much at the time.

I agree with that, if this was in a post WW1 game that was kind of like Fallout or Metro but more Steampunk, then I probably wouldn't have a problem with it.
Hey bro, love the videos. Been watching you since the deep rock days.... That being said, by the only one thing I wanted to correct you on is when you were talking about the combat rifles you said the game takes place in the '50s... That's incorrect, it takes place in an alternate timeline. And yes it's 50's-esc and retro but the year of the Great War was 2077... And most of the games take place like 100 or 200 years after that so not the 50s, but I get what you were saying.. It's also why they might not be using the M16, because in that timeline it might not have been developed or adopted
Do you / does anyone have a mod recommendation to replace the questionable weapon designs?
I think i would switch the pipe automatic and the pipe revolver. The only problem with the pipe automatic is the magazine and the looks, but the firing mechanism might work as a simple blowback for something like 38 or 45. A revolver is made with a lot of tiny pieces that have to move like clockwork. It might seem simpler because it is a manually operated weapon, but a revolver is very complicated when compared to a simple blowback. A random guy can walk in a hardware store and make a luty submachine gun, a guy needs at least very good handtools to make a barely functional revolver.
A combat rifle typically fires full size rifle rounds. You only get that with the combat rifle if you rechamber it in .308. But then it doesn't change the animations any as it still throws out pistol casings when fired. M14 fired a 7mm cartridge. They did make revolver rifles. But like a regular revolver that if the catches on the cylinder wore out the gun could explode in your hand when fired because the chamber of the cylinder didn't line up with the barrel correctly. The thing is that most firearms are right-handed due to the fact most of humanity is right-handed. But most modern weapons used by militaries can be either with a slight adjustment which changes the ejector to kick out the casing either on the right or left and the safety and selectors are on both sides of the receiver. The institute rifle tends to be lower in damage than the normal laser rifle and fires blue instead of red. They didn't want to make more animations than they had to. The hunting rifle is a right-handed gun. The bolt handle is on the right side of the gun but through game magic the sole survivor operates it from the left.

Yeah I like the one in Fallout 4 too, it is pretty nice.
I unironically really like the 10mm design in fallout 4. Looks weird in 3rd person sure but it's a pretty much completely unique design and not hobble cobbled together parts from different irl guns as with most guns. The bulbous look fits the retro sci-fi look imo
So many cool designs with the art in Fallout 4. I love looking through the art book! Some of the weapons are good, then some are questionable or quite rough. I really like the handmade AK, the laser musket, the fatman, and others. The hunting rifle bolt on the left is just bizarre as it's not common and we even had a right-hand hunting rifle with animations that fit all the way back in Fallout 3. Also, glad there are mods to make the revolver into double action. Strange it's single only in the base game. Also, while i like the Gauss rifle, i absolutely love the old fallout 3 Gauss rifle with all the wood furnishing! Looks badass and has a vibe that fits early 20th century guns! Love it! 👌🏻 The new assault rifle was designed for power armor, but I wish we still had the G3. It should have just been called like power armor machine gun, or hell, just bring in the LEWIS GUN! That would be sick! Love the Lewis gun! Also, yeah, there should be a BAR and other common American weapons of the era. Like I'm surprised there's no 1911! The ppk is cool and I liked the inclusion of the volksturmgewehr! Overall, well said! Good list, my dude! 😁😎👍🏻
Guys I think it's pieced together
Pro tip of the day: If you pick up an enemy's gun you get the amount of ammunition in the magazine of said gun on top of what you loot off their body. If you kill a triggerman with a Submachinegun, and loot some .45 cal rounds off of him, you should also pick up his submachinegun, and now you get whatever ammo the gun would be fully loaded with on top of what you already looted directly from the triggerman.
I miss my Chinese Assault Rifle, but we get the Homemade Rifle. Close enough.

That is fair, it would have been interesting to see what the Chinese Assault Rifle would look like in Fallout 4.
I'd argue the fat man should be in Fine or Perfect tier, since it's basically a Davy Crockett recoilless rifle. The Davies were intended as short-ranged nuclear warhead launchers. But due to international treaties and the inability to hurl the nukes far enough that they wouldn't kill the shooter as well, they were scrapped. Also, as other said, the cryolator is noted on a terminal to have been the pet experiment Vault 111's overseer to create a lethal weapon out of spare cryopod parts.
