    Hiding underwater would not help against a nuclear blast whatsoever, at ground zero the fission reaction can reach up to 100 million degrees Celcius which is about 10,000 times the temperature at which water turns into plasma. Even if you somehow survived the pressure wave or the heat, the fallout would irradiate you and kill you in an even more painful way. When it comes to nuclear war, I'll quote the 1980's movie WarGames: "the only winning move is not to play"

    on a plus side, no modern military would ground burst a nuke, so the radiation will not last long, a month or so tops, and direct radiation risk, is less than the thermal blast range, so if you survived the blast, you will likely survive after. the reason radiation is a major issue, is dirty nukes that were ground burst, the radioactive material and radiated soil was thrown far and carried with winds.

    But also people seem to overestimate the deadly range if nukes. A small one is just a few km, a big one maybe 20-30km. So if you're in the hills of LA, and it goes if in the centre, the blast itself likely won't kill you.

It improves it so much that almost every wound is instantly healed even broken bones. There are different variations in the games. Fallout Shelter what you played have the normal Stimpaks and you can create them in the the Med Bay rooms or gather them from outside. The asthma inhaler is a drug called Jet. It is a very strong metampetamine which is very addictive and make the user hallucinate and increase strength, cause faster reaction time. In the early games Jet is a big problem in the communities because lots of people are addicted to it and you can't cure it. You can use them with your character too to increase your stats but you will be addicted to it easily and you can only cure jet addiction with a special antidote. In later games this was changed

    The Fallout universe is based on an "atom punk" setting. It's an alternate timeline where technology developped around nuclear power and cybernetics instead of microchips and the fashion and cultural background stayed stuck in the late 50's The opening scene is set in 2077, right at the moment the "great war" started (and ended few hours later) Most died under the bombs or shortly after because of the radiations. Some lucky ones were able to hide into personal shelters or massive Vaults able to house hundreds Lucy's vault is part of an interconnected compound of 3 Vaults (31, 32 and 33) where they make arranged marriages between vaults to maintain a healty genetic pool Maximus is part of the Brotherhood of Steel. Its a religious/military order whose mission is to collect and protect technologies from before the Great war. The "knights" are warriors operating restored/repurposed power armors from before the Great war The Enclave is another organisation whose purpose is to "recreate" the ancien world with heavy military technologies (advanced weaponry, biotech and chemical warfare) The Ghoul is... a ghoul. Some people don't die from radiation poisoning but instead turn into some kind of immortal creatures (they can be killed but don't age anymore and can heal really fast) who slowly lose their mind and become "feral" And, yes, the guy at the entrance of the graveyard was killed by a doll leg launched by a Junk jet, a popular weapon from the games which can use any item from your inventory as munition

    @@RingwelskiJacek FEV can also create Ghoul-like creatures from humans, as was the case of Harold (Who also had a mutant plant growing through his head, which due to his unique mutation didn't kill him). The creation of ghouls is poorly understood in the games, being a combination of long or intense radiation exposure, environmental FEV (From the aerosolization of FEV when places like the Marisposa military base were nuked in the war) or sometimes just chemical exposure. They all share traits though, like extremely long life, radiation induced regenerative abilities, immunity to radiation poisoning and occasional degenerative brain damage that turns them into Ferals. Since some people turned Ghoul immediately after the great war, its surmised that at least some factor of the process also existed entirely pre-war and the radiation simply activated it in people who already featured the gene mutation or whatever.

    Fantastic reaction! I'm posting some background stuff here. No spoilers, don't worry! The TV show is set in the game world, it's not an adaptation. The Fallout timeline diverges from the real world some time after the second world war. The USA stopped changing culturally, which explains the styling and music. Transistors were invented much later, so there were no microchips, explaining the old-style computer technology. The settings of the games and show: 2077 Bombs fall (everywhere) 2102 Fallout 76 (Appalachia, West Virginia) 2161 Fallout (Southern California) 2241 Fallout 2 (Northern California) 2277 Fallout 3 (Washington, D.C.) 2281 Fallout: New Vegas (Mojave Desert, across 4 states) 2287 Fallout 4 (Boston, Massachusetts) 2296 Fallout TV show (Los Angeles, California)

    Fallout, games and series, does what good SciFi should, it holds up a dark mirror to humanity. As fot the party at the brink of war; you are young, to those of us growing up during The Cold War that intro is what we feared would happen- every day. But we lived our lives (just like Ukrainians do, not knowing when a Muscowite missile targets their kindergarden or housing block. When I teach my The History of The Cold War classes, I always start by showing them a five minute video of nuclear explosions with eerie music, to make your generation understand what it all was- and what you will have to get used to again with Putoloni's sabre-rattling (though he is too much of a coward to do it). About the "Wild" cars. The game is set in an alternative timeline, where the transistor was never invented, so everything used vacuum-tubes like early computers. And thus the timeline starts diverging from ours in the year after WW2, and progress is generally much slower. But there is also no Cuban Missile Crisis, Long Island, etc, and no reckoning with its past, so the US carries on in a sort of Truman-Eisenhower Superamerica with nuclear powered cars, etc. But in the 21st century fossil fuels and other resources starts running out, and The Resource Wars starts; where Europe, Africa and The Middle East is torn apart, and China invades Alaska to get the last remaining oil resource on the planet. And in 2077... Boom. And oh yea, the US turns authoritarian semi-Fascist, a bit like Starship Troopers. Anyway, think of the game and series as set in a sort of retro-futuriatic post apocalypse, IE a future as imagined in the fifties, but then add a nuclear exchange of superpowers.

    Let's goooooo Sess! I binged the whole season in one day! I LOVED it! Course I am a huge Fallout fan, and loved all the Easter eggs in the show! Can't wait for S2! Just one correction Sess. Dane, Maximus's friend is Trans, and their pronoun is "They" if you go back and watch the BOS (Brotherhood of Steel) actually refer to Dane as "Them" which I found really refreshing, as the BOS are a bunch of a holes, but they are ACCEPTING a holes! 🤣This is why we have seen the backlash, and people calling the show "Woke" Ughhh. Some game-specific lore that isn't really covered in the show: The Enclave is a faction featured in Fallout (games) 2 and 3. They are descended from what was left of the US government after the war. Ghouls are humans mutated by radiation. They live extremely long lives and some, like The Ghoul (the cowboy from the beginning) are from before the war. Some ghouls lose what's left of their humanity and become feral, essentially zombies, that will attack any non-ghoul on sight (hence the chicken as a test). If you play Fallout 1, 3, or 4 you can have a dog as a companion. Won't say his name yet since it does come up in the TV series. The injection Lucy used on herself after getting stabbed was a stimpack. In the games, it's essentially the same as a healing potion form a fantasy game.

  • @AretaicGames

    @AretaicGames
