Falling Timber: Ranch Clearing with the Excavator (Arlington Logging Operation Part 1)

🌲 PART ONE! Arlington Ranch thinning and clearing: Timber-Cutting loads of Hemlock and Douglas Fir 🌲
Stay tuned for Part 2!
James and I set out on Day One of a clearing operation in the historic logging and agricultural town of Arlington, Washington, on the Stillaguamish River. Here, on Day One, we start felling and bucking Hemlock, Douglas fir, and Cedar on "The Front 40". We deal with felling a combination of danger trees and removing others to clear the field, all while deciding how to maintain foliage for privacy. The equipment on-site is the John Deere 135g excavator, which is not only used for yarding, loading, and processing but also serves as our "Hydraulic Wedge". James prioritizes cutting for efficiency, given that we have the Back 40 to contend with as soon as we're done with the Front. We only have a week to cut and clear several loads of danger trees and yard them to a landing for processing and loading.
James employs a Humboldt notch to save time during processing. He demonstrates his timber cutting techniques, showcasing how to safely fell multiple trees on top of each other. While the Front trees were easy to fall and process, tackling the Back trees will pose a challenge. Stay tuned for Part 2! Feel free to leave a comment in the comment section. Thank you for watching! Awesome job, I've been falling trees since highschool, second generation logger, just curious ..... any serious injuries? I'm the type I do everything I can to be safe but I've still been hurt a bunch.
