ABOUT ME
I’m 32 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 850 breeding ewes.
I shore over 19,000 sheep this season in the UK and have my own shearing run which lets you see many different farms in the summer months.
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on KZread and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
Thanks for watching my videos and please subscribe if you want to see more in future.

Skin conducts electricity - just ask your sheep about electric fencing. The thing about the back of the hand (you could try it on the electric fence?) is that you won't "grab" the plug/tool/wire when the shock causes the muscles in your hand to contract. I think.

No one interviews the sheep, before and after shearing 🐑🐑😏Guarantee they feel lighter, clearer and cooler. Great job guys. Food looked so yummy. Great way to dry your clothes. I stepped off a step stool top step and ran my left side info a kitchen island. Still bothers me after two years.

I had to turn on the closed captions, I have only one working ear. They really made me smile. Apparently you had a great feet put on for tea. Not only strange words from the Scots, but the sheep bleeting was called applause and the barking dogs were music. You were accompanied well. I don't do heat well so I congratulate you and the team working though it. They say that in Europe it's the hottest ever recorded. I think we in Canada were up there too but our records only go a couple of centuries back.

The standard food for winter and early spring shearing in Indiana (USA) is chili. "We're having chili for lunch. You do like chili don't you?" The next day, the same thing, "You do like chili don't you, we're having chili for lunch." Chili for lunch is a standard joke among shearers in the Midwest USA.

Completely admire all you guys shearing in that heat, its hard enough work pushing ewes up the ramp, although one thing i notice you guys do not have loud music blaring out ,our ewes were murder to get up into the shearing trailer this year ,I'm convinced they were terrified of the music and thats why they did not want to move our squads have always sheared to loud music probably required to dull the sheares brains so they can keep going on long hard days

A few benefits but mainly grip, thin sole so less reach to the board (less pressure on hamstrings), keeps your ankle free to move, makes ur feet smaller and more nimble.

Is it "Farmer's Choice" as to whether or not the tails are docked? My personal preference is to do it; not only reduces the possibility of fly strike, but makes for a cleaner sheep.

  • @TheSheepGame

Cammy, I can’t work out the psychology of shearing and how the shearers remain so good natured! Is it not just a bit depressing looking at hundreds of sheep knowing you are going to be bent double over them shearing for hours, before you move on to the next farm to start the process again? And why do shearers want to do it on their days off, turning it into a sporting venture with competitions?! It looks like back breaking work that no one would want to willingly undertake…
