Wizards and Warriors animated fantasy documentary lore video series on the world of Middle-Earth - Lord of the Rings continues with the longform video on the First Age, as we talk about the Rise of Morgoth. In this video we discussed the creation of the world of Tolkien, its powers and races and we see how and why the Elves became the enemies of the Dark Lord Melkor, who they called Morgoth, after their leader Fëanor cursed him for killing his father Finwë and stealing his prized possession - Silmarils. We see how the evil first rose in the world of Arda and will talk about Ungoliant and other evils, about the Valar and Maiar, about the Elves and their sub-groups - Vanyar, Ñoldor, Teleri, and Avari. In Middle-Earth, Morgoth attacks the Teleri Elves in Doriath under Thingol and his allies Cirdan and Denethor starting the War of the Jewels with the First Battle of the Beleriand. Meanwhile, in the Valinor, the Noldor Elves of Feanor attack their Teleri relatives in the First Kinslaying in order to take their ships. Afterwards, Feanor and his sons travel to the Middle-Earth in order to fight Morgoth and take the Silmarils, leading to the battles of Dagor-nuin-Giliath and Lammoth and the death of Feanor. We show the aftermath of the death of Feanor, as the Noldor kingdoms rise in the Middle-Earth taking on Morgoth once again, this time at the battle of Dagor Aglareb, where Feanor's sons Fingolfin and Maedhros, and others fought against the Dark Lord and we also talked about the rise of the humans - the House of Edain. We will describe the battle of Dagor Bragollach and the rise of the father of Dragons Glaurung. In the aftermath of the defeat at the hands of Morgoth, the Elves and Men were on the back foot and the evil spread in the Middle-Earth, but from those dark days, an unlikely pair rose to challenge the darkness - Beren and Lúthien and defeated Morgoth. Their tragic love story inspired Maedhros to create his Union, which attacked the Dark Lord during the Nirnaeth Arnoediad - the battle of Unnumbered Tears [ • Rise of Morgoth - Midd... ], while the episode on the fall of Morgoth will describe Morgoth's curse and the Rise of Húrin's son Túrin, Fall of Nargothrond, Nienor and her meeting with Turin and the biggest tragedy of Tolkien, as Turin and Nienor died and so did Glaurung. After their death, the Dark Lord finally released Hurin, leadgin fighting each other for the Silmarils and power, the Second Kinslaying and the Fall of Doriath. In the aftermath another great story, that of Tuor started, and with it a New Hope was born however his coming to the last great free city - Gondolin, roused jealousy of some of the denizens and the city was betrayed to Morgoth as a result and fell to the Dark Lord, leading to the War of Wrath and the fall of Morgoth by the other Valar

All that was needed to defeat Morgoth was a host from Vala which they could have done at the very beginning. What makes all middle dramas point less lol And Morgoth was never so powerful or anything that many could beat him, so calling him almighty powerful dark lord was kind of lame.

You can tell Tolkien was a Professor of Literature. This story sounded just like the stories in Greek, Indian and Chinese Mythology that I read at University. Tolkien did exactly what he said. Made a Mythology for his people, the Saxons of England.

Sauron: Fine. I'll do it myself. Did Sauron ever intend to continue Morgoth's work of destroying everything, or did he just co-opt his master's remnants for his own time in the spotlight of ruling Middle Earth. Also, good on the Edain for getting that island of Numenor. I forsee nothing but long life, purity, and dry lands for them in the future. No siree, no bad ends them whatsoever.

@@lisboahI'm not sure how accurate it is to say that Morgoth wanted to destroy everything. Morgoth wanted to create as Eru created but, not being Eru, the best he could do was 'corrupt' the work of the Valar (he technically could not corrupt the work of Eru, for all that Morgoth was came from Eru and was thus part of Eru's design, much to Morgoth's annoyance). Rather than destroy everything, I think Morgoth wanted to remake the world to his own design. This meant that he needed to subjugate all who would oppose his vision, mainly the Valar, and thus, because the Valar oversaw the creation of much of the world, he sought to unmake or corrupt their works to force them to submit.

In the Battle of the Powers, there was an effective search for Sauron, but well, it's Sauron. He knew Angband better than anyone, and combined with the rush the Valar were in, they ended up being negligent. This proved to be an act of incompetence indeed, as Sauron rebuilt Angband and began producing Orcs on a large scale. He also managed to concentrate the Sindar in two poles, while the others had to hide to avoid being massacred. In fact, the Sindar were not defeated only because the Noldor arrived, since if we consider that the Orcs of Battle-under-Stars were originally destined for the Sindar, that is, the army of the First Battle was just a wave of a larger army. The Falathrim and Círdan would probably be dead and Doriath would be surrounded and isolated, this was all planned by Sauron for when the Lord returned, ironically they lacked communication, as Morgoth ruined this plan due to his actions in Valinor.

Poor Melian. Poor Dortiath. Tolkien said it was via the love between Melian and Thingol that she was empowered beyond her ken, able to then effect physical reality in a way she never could before, thus able to cast and channel the Girdle. Similarly to how Manwë and Varda empower each other. With the death of Melian's husband, she lost the better part of her magic and her anchor to Middle-earth, it was impossible to maintain the barrier and an agony to remain.

@@myriadmediamusings most assuredly, it's been many thousands of years since then. It is still sad thinking that, if things were different, the population of Doriath wouldn't have been massacred if Melian were able to stay and maintain the barrier. Then again, one could argue the child of Dior needed to get in contact with the child of Tour at the refugee camp to produce Earendil who would bring the Valar to take Morgoth down...so the death of Doriath probably had to happen then as Morgoth would have ultimately been able to overpower Melian anyway.

Ashame The Tale of Eärendil did not have a specific final version, like The Children of Húrin. JRR Tolkien had so such much to do, that he'd never had time to complete. I hope more videos from W&W for the conclusion of Warhammer fantasy End Times and Mongol alt history. Also the continuation of the Horus Heresy, Thrawn campaign and Wheel of Time. You know I also recommend anime, including Naruto. Though I never thought about One Piece, on its surface it appears over the top wacky and cartoony. Yet under the surface, there is a complex depth and history on a huge scale. Can you imagine how W&W would animate the setpiece battles? From Arabasta to Enies Lobby, Thriller Bark, Marineford, Dressrosa and recently Onigashima. They just get more crazy and over-the-top as we go along. Yet I wouldn't mind seeing them take a try.

Morgoth had battled the noldor and the whole elven kin longer than he had battled the edain yet the ones who came under the most cruel of his works was the line of hurin a line who loved the elves as much as they loved their kin. If Tolkien had finished his Dagor dagorath it wouldve been cannon that turin would be the one to finish morgoth once and for all 😢.

At long last, I have the time to watch it. A wonderful video! An age of Heroes, and Sacrifice has come to an end! Thank you! It was a great video and thanks for making it! The War of Wrath was epic beyond imagining! I hate to spoil this excellent video but I must to give Tolkien justice. 1. Earendil was already going to Valinor before the Kinslaying. Without the light of the silmaril, he was lost. But you were right he did feel a rush of fear and a desire to return home to see his wife. 2. You were mistaken about the reason Elwing did not give up the Silmaril. The reason why she did not give it up was because she believed it did not belong to the House of Fanor. She believed it belonged to her family because of the sacrifices they made to obtain it. I believe she grew up with her grandparent and they told her their story. anyway, it was an excellent video!
