the beginning is so twilight coded i love it also i’m 100% sure you’d love the show mindhunter if you haven’t seen it yet. it’s about the start of profiling in the fbi and the establishment of the behavioural science unit and the casting especially of the actors who represent the (true !!) serial killers is perfect and it’s crazy how good they acted it out (there’s a comparison on yt and it’s actually mind-blowing) but it’s still mostly fictional

the golfinch is great, i loved the atmosphere and the way it was written. however, i think a lot of people dont like it because it is incredibly detailed and does drag on a lot, like at one point he literally just goes on for pages describing all the drugs hes addicted to 😭 great book though and quite character driven

The Goldfinch starts great, for me I came down on the side of feeling like I wasted my time with 800 pages of this book. I can appreciate the Dickensian saga of it all, and it obviously is a huge feat to construct something like this. However the ending just wasn’t it for me after such time investment. Can’t wait to see what you think

Very happy to come across this latest video. Looking at the huge pile of TBRs on the floor next to me, I don't see much of a chance for me to read some of your recommendations but I still enjoy hearing about them. The Goldfinch is in my TBR pile but that most likely will take me months. I am just finishing The Little Friend , a Donna Tartt I don't hear people talk about. It is great!

I like the Goldfinch better than the secret history. The german version has 1020 pages that is kinda weird. By Donna Tartt i don't really like or understand the little friend.

if you want to read more horror i cant recommend Piercing by Ryu Murakami. its an incredible Japanese horror book about a man with a murder fantasy and what happens when he comes across a prostitute. also highly recommend One Hand To Hold One Hand To Carve by M. Shaw. its an indie horror novella that does body horror a bit and deals with themes of individuality and family. its weird and has magical realism in it too
