    I rarely agree with skip, but this time i do. Bill Belichick was the HC for the Cleveland Browns from 1991-1995. His record was 36-44. He had one winning season there that was a playoff year. He got the Patriots job in 2000. He went 5-11 that year. Tom Brady made his first start in 2001....team took off. Multiple playoffs and superbowls. Brady leaves and his record regresses to what it was in cleveland and in the first year in new England, finishing at 4-13. He definitely has the greatest coaching RECORD of all time with the multiple superbowls. But the "greatest coach" should be able to reproduce some modicum of success with a different qb (even a former mvp like cam newton). It appears that the curtain has been pulled back from the wizard.

    I like how everyone wants to forget that since Brady has left, the Patriots have had 1 winning season since 2020. He had full control of what players to bring in, so this is fully and in every way HIS team. So he is 70+ years old with limited years left, has missed on what players to draft and bring in, has had subpar defenses even though he's a defensive minded coach, and he was 29-38 without Brady. I think he's clearly at the end of his career and if you want to turn a franchise around, betting on someone that may have 1-3 years left is a BIG gamble because you could be right back in this situation again. Not sure Morris will workout, but as a Falcons game I'm hoping for the best.

    @@AaronLewis06 First of all, I've played football to some of the highest level up to Semipro leagues, so I do know what I'm talking about. I actually have nothing against and was excited about it at first. I'm not even saying Morris is gonna be the answer......which I'm pretty sure is in this thread also. At the end of the day, he wanted full control of personel as well. For someone that has had that same control that has steered the Patriots into the spot their in......that's a lot of uncertainty to take on for someone who could have health complications in the next year and now everything is all up in the air again. Facts are fact, fact - he is one of the winningest coaches in history, fact - he had very little success before Brady, fact - he's a proven defensive mind in the game, fact - since brady has been gone and that assembled team has moved on, his teams have been losing teams, fact - he is in his 70's and you never know what his health will do. Given all of that, they chose to go with Morris.

    BTW, the same exact thing is going on with Pete Carroll at the moment. He had the same control and big success with the Seahawks. Since that core group has moved on his teams have struggled. Sometimes they get to ride the wave but at some point it goes downhill. Falcon's chose not to take the gamble at the end of his career. I would've preferred Eric Bienemy (however you spell it). Defense played well most of the year, but spent WAY too much time on the field. We have offensive weapons but lacked any kind of a scheme to use them. I think he would've been able to create a monster......but we got who we got so lets see how this works out.

    @AaronLewis06

    @greglcarpenter Okay Mr. Semi Pro, first off (as you probably already know) unless you're stepping into a ready to win now situation, you can't use his coaching record without Brady against him. Coming into a typical coaching situation, you have to start from scratch, that includes losing. Overall in those situations, he's made playoff caliber teams. It just took him some time. Next, as you speak a few facts, also speak about how Bill didn't want to draft Mac Jones. He wanted to trade him since last season. In Mac's rookie year, Bill surrounded him with a #2 ranked defense and a run game that avg over 125 yds per game. Bill also pushed the Patriots to #1 seed that same season, then Mac flamed out. Straight losses to end up as a wildcard team. McDaniels didn't want to work with Mac so he left and took a coaching job. If Mac was as "special" as folks thinks he is, he would've stayed. Bill has taken shots from all angles since Brady left and he didn't even get the chance to rebuild the team properly after having that long run of success.

Also, Belichick was 5-13 before Brady, far worse than the Pats have been before. Belichick doesn’t just lose, he loses BADLY. Brady starts and goes 14-3 SB MVP Year 1 and probowler. Belichick and the Pats were 5-13 with the 26th ranked defense before Brady. Brady starts year 1 and goes 14-3 SB MVP and probowler year 1. Brady led the league in TDs the next year, and won another SB MVP the year after that throwing for 350+ yards and 3 TDs. How was he a game manager? Brady helped transform Belichick’s Pats from last place 5-13 to 14-3 making the probowl and winning SB MVP Year 1.

    Another thing too that I don't see a lot of people if any mentioning is society has changed people are softer than they used to be and don't respond as well as the tough love style of coaching. I think players want an upbeat youthful personable coach they feel they can relate to. And I think owners see that. And I'm someone that actually prefers the old school smash mouth style of football when running backs were the main position the defense could actually defend and hit people and the coaches chewed out players refs and other coaches on the sidelines .. but you can't deny those days are unfortunately gone and unfortunately for Bill who was part of that era even for all he's accomplished these new kids probably won't respond as well to his style as they would a younger coach closer to their age
